As of Saturday I have a downpayment on the red and silver Birkin at Texas Motor Works. I was there over the weekend and that thing flat out flies... Definitely could tell the difference between it and the other car I was there to see as well as a few others I have driven. Gotta get it home and street legal (no small task in NJ). I hope to make it to Carlisle with her next month!

Kyle,

Great news, now the fun starts. I would think Dick could hook you up with a 30 day tag. If you drive it home, the adventure starts then. Get some good ear plugs (wind noise).

I purchased a very light aluminum trailer for mine, but I enjoy driving it too much to use the trailer. Dick is a great person for support as well, you have done well. :>)

Congratulations Kyle!

Just make sure it has a valid texas title before you leave town....otherwise you will be in a world of hurt once you get here to NJ.

Now has the wife given you an upgrade budget to spend on?

Better yet, get a Texas title that says it's a vintage car....then QQ it up here, no inspection — IIRC.

Jiminy, with all these new Garden State Sevens, I better get back in the saddle soon!?!?

from Dick's ad....

"This car is called a 1967 because of Ebay rules, however it was registered as a new car in 2003. It has a Texas title reflecting that fact. The car was not produced in 1967, however it is a replica of Lotus cars of that period of time."

Thanks to all...

I saw the title, currently registered as a 2003 'assembled vehicle' in Texas. Title notes that it is a replica of a 1967 Lotus. I don't think that it will be a problem getting it titled in NJ, I'm more worried about the inspection and getting it street legal...

Well I will make you an offer...if you help my exhaust shielding accidentally 'drop off' then I will help you put it on yours for inspection ;)

Seriously, now that we all know the current protocol for NJ I think it will be a little easier for you. Register it as a collector vehicle and you avoid the whole inspection saga.

I am told that when the exhaust shielding falls off it sometims hits the odo/speedo cable and knocks it loose as well...

Mike, having gone thought this recently, what do you think about 1) getting it through as a collector vehicle with a title that says 2003...and 2) through emissions with no catalytic converter?

Hey, I've driven your car! I was at Dick's place a week before you and drove that red/silver car.

I also drove the green/gold car with wide track front suspension and IRS rear suspension.

Well, I think you are heading uphill on getting collector status. If you look at this link http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/Vehicle/collector_vehicles.htm

and refer to the pdf fact sheet - I think you will hit a problem at bullet point 6. NJ was pretty firm with me that I was a reconstruct/kit car. This was a 2007 change to the rules after Al got his car through

As for the catalytic converter - I think you give her a nice tune up and have her running sweet as can be and give it a try at a friendly garage that does inspection tests as a test run. Try both the OBDII option and the tailpipe sensor approach and see if there is any difference.

Are you sure there is no cat within the muffler like I discovered with mine?

I'm pretty sur ethey are separate as some of the Birkins have a shorter set of headers to accomodate the length of the cat. There was at least one in Dick's shop with a separate cat. Guess I'll give it a try. If not the combo muffler/cat converter might be an option.
