1st drive this season

Recommended Posts

Finally hopped in the car and went nowhere in particular for 20 miles. That was FUN. For the past few months I had been hampered by starting problems. I chalked it up to a bad battery or starter. Finally looked at it today and found the main ground connection was loose. 5 min later fired it right up and went on down the road. It had been a while, so putting my foot into it was a bit of a rush. And man, bugs are out in full force already.

So still no windshield....or are you just going so fast that you have smashed a lot of bugs on the road on your short ride...:cooldude:...:jester:...

got a windshield on, but no wipers. Clearly it's not loud enough to scare the bugs

We are taking the Se7en to Put-in-bay on South Bass Island this weekend! First time she will be on the ferry. Cold weather this weekend so we had to put the full windscreen and top on her. should be a fun weekend touring the island.

My little car's drive yesterday led to a busted selector arm (or the pin holding it together or something similar) as something went crack then bang bang bang around inside the gearbox before the engine stalled.

Ah....the joys of an engine out job just when the weather gets good :(

Something to worry about on the weekend....

Nice to hear the stories of Spring drives. Mine ('90 Xflow Caterham) is still up on jack stands for maintenance and a carb rebuild, so I'm jealous, especially as it has stopped raining here. I have not, however, been totally deprived since I did get to drive my friend's '98 SuperLight Cat (no windshield) recently in order to take my mom for a spin!

After 4 months of sitting in the garage, the S1 is now legal and on the road.

The old inspection sticker showed I only drove it 1365 miles last year.

I'll try to put more miles on it this year. I've driven it for the past few days and it is running great.

Mike, Hope your trans problem gets fixed soon, let me know if I can help in some way.

Happy Spring

That is exactly why I have never got the courage to autox my se7en. Ouch!!!!! Russ

Russ, then the easy solution is to take the rear wings off. Unless you have a bunch of real sticklers, they usually don't care. Especially if your first time.

If you do decide to leave the wings on, take out the steel bolts and replace them with a few Plastic/nylon ones. You only need about 4-5 to hold the wing on just fine. That way if you do hit a cone the bolt breakes and doesn't pull the rivenuts out of the skin. The Wings are easy to refiberglass. That one's been done atleast 3 times. It's alot heavier now though. :jester: The nylon/plastic bolts are a good idea even if you don't autox as they won't corrode and get stuck in the rivenut.

Go out and enjoy that car!!!

Now that I'm street legal thought I'd brave the 5AM morning cold ( I know, SF Bay Area cold isn't "real" cold) and drive to the office in Fremont as I had to make an afternoon meeting out of town and it would give me a chance to put about a hundred miles on the S2K in what was going to be great weather. Three mile from home on the way in two sedans did a spectacular spinning crash right in front of me and the car next to me cranked as hard as it could right into my lane, with me still in it. Cranked it left just as I was about to get hit and Wow, will a Seven out turn a Toyota!!, Escaped being sideswiped, only to run into/over various parts being shed by the two destructo sedans. A broken headlight (tri-bar with turn signal inside that I just installed Sunday) couple of scratches on the side, a nice deep chip next to the grill and some scuff lines down the body pan but all else is OK.

Some idiot had stalled and was stopped in the slow lane, no lights on and lots of room to pull off, but an obvious brain dead driver who couldn't figure out that with 70 MPH traffic and darkness it wasn't a good place to park.

Good new of yesterday was that the afternoon trip was a real blast, 65 plus and sunny, light traffic and turned off the crackberry both ways so it was just "enjoy the drive" time.

P.S. Good luck with the gearbox repairs.

My friends don't beleive me when I tell them that driving on the streets is WAY more dangerous than doing track days, far less idiots at the track. I don't think anyone I was ever on track with would be stupid enough to drift to a stop in the racing line while there was run-off room yet you see it on the freeway all the time. Feel sorry for the two cars that really bit it over someone else's stupidity.

Really do think that if I had been driving my Cooper S, which handles pretty well, I wouldn't have been able to avoid being sideswiped myself. Yanking left was just a "no thinking time" instinct to avoid being hit but I was out of that lane and having to turn back right so fast I couldn't beleive it. Really haven't had the time or place yet to see just what the car will do but yesterday gave me a whole new idea of the potential. Love the "Seven"!!
