KiwiBirkin
Hi guys thanks for the concern it's a great feeling to know others around the world care. As you may know we were hit by a another major EQ today it was less at 6.3 but this time it was more violent and has caused more distruction with Christchurch city center really hit bad with many buildings down and big loss of life. We are fine the house is ok but we are really freaking out with the after shocks

Alaskossie
Kiwi, Here are some good wishes from the Alaska/North Pacific "Ring of Fire" -- glad to hear that you and your immediate family are all right, but very sorry to learn of the tremendous damage to Christchurch. We live with tremors and moderate shakes up here all the time, but not since the magnitude 8.6 earthquake in 1964 have we had anything to equal your two recent natural disasters (and I was not here in '64 to survive that one). Stay safe, and I hope you can pitch in to help get your beautiful city back on it feet. Our best Seven wishes are with you and family.

Croc
I have been checking in with my family/friends in Christchurch - all safe although in one case the house looks like it will be a write-off. It is good hear you are all safe Kiwi - unfortunately it is a long road ahead for the city to recover and rebuild.

Kitcat
Just finished looking at an internet slide show of the damage. Truly unbelievable devastation. I had no idea it had been so incredibly destructive. I am sure the aftershocks are terrifying. It will definitely be years of recovery. Words fail me. Hang in there! GBOLT
I was also just watching some video and can not imagine what it must be like to live through that. I kept thinking how all the parents have to not only deal with the natural events, but need to find a way to calm and comfort their children. Be safe. jimrankin
Earthquakes give you a feeling you just can't explain to someone who hasn't been through a big one. Primordial fear in the pit of your stomach when the planet you have lived and walked on for years seems to have become very angry with you. The only consolation I can offer you and your family is that like most disasters it makes you even more aware of whats important to you and what doesn't really matter. Our best wishes for your continued safety.
KiwiBirkin
Once again guys thanks for your thoughts they are really comforting. Its been a strange day here the house is full with friends and family who have come out of the city to stay with us as we still have running water and power so can help that way, my wife's brothers house is trashed and now un-liveable so he will be staying with us for a while I would say. As we watch the live broadcast from the TV all day is hard not to break down and cry (as i have done several times) as you watch the heartache of people clinging on to hope that there family members are still alive in the worst affected buildings all most of the CBD is wreaked but what isn't being shown yet on TV is the outer suburbs and the damage to peoples property this quake hit places that were untouched by the 7.1 EQ 5 months ago so i would say now that about 75% of Christchurch city has some major damage. As Jim said its that primordial fear that sits in your stomach its such a crap feeling to have and it just doesn't go away, my wife is already talking about emigrating to Aussie to get away from it as she has vowed she does not want to go through the last 2 days again. KiwiBirkin
Hi guys I think the RED CROSS have one set up for the Canterbury EQ if not I will check the news over here and see what I can find. Peaceful night last night with only one after shock that i felt and the sun has come out today and stopped raining so will help to lift the spirits of those searching for the missing. MHKflyer52
KiwiBirkin, How are thing going for you and your family. I hope things are starting to settle and more stability to the daily norm is occurring for you and your fellow countrymen. The News here in the states is not saying a whole lot about how things are progressing and that most of old town Christchurch will most likely need to be taken down and rebuilt due to the destruction that has occurred because of the resent quake. Stay safe and keep us posted as to how things are going.
