MightyMike's Stalker V8

I'll let you know how the cycle wings hold up at speed. I was thinking of trimming the fronts 45 degrees (like my old Birkin); primarily for aesthetic reasons, but a possible benefit may be reduced buffeting at higher speeds.

Some photos from this weekend's progress...

I had to pull off the coil packs and bend the fuel line to get the nose cone to close. Looks like more online shopping tonight. My seats get delivered on Tuesday.

Hey Mike, Did you have to use spacers for your wheels. They look really nice.

Jack in Indy.

Mike,

Thanks for posting the photos. Did you get the seats from the US Tillett distributor (in Florida, I think), or from somewhere else?

How do you think these seats would work in a car (a Miata, for example), where the tunnel and car sides don't form a close, adjacent "bucket" for the seats themselves?

Tom,

I think they would fit nicely into a Miata. I will check with Skip to see if I could test fit one into his car and take a few photos for you. I purchased the seats from British Racing Group. Shipping to Colorado from the UK was $365.

Mike,

I'm not worried about the physical fit of the seats in the car -- I'm sure they will go into a Miata.

I was just speculating on how much of a"bucket" effect these Tilletts might offer, with their lowered sides compared to the high-side Tilletts in my Seven. (Of course, a broader range of people can fit into your Tillitts than can fit in my Seven!).

Mike,

Good thought. In a Seven, getting in is like dropping into a slot. In a conventional car (one with doors, for example!), ingress/egress is more of a "swing" maneuver.

So for daily use in a non-Seven, high bolsters might just be a royal pain.

Have you thought of getting the Oxted Trimming seat pads for your Tilletts? I have them in my Seven, and am pleased with them. I fixed an adjustable lumbar pad to them with a Velcro strap, and it works well.

Tom,

I hadn't heard of Oxted Trimming, but will check out their wares. I kept my Birkin and sold the Elise because after I broke my back mountain biking, I had a much easier and less painful time getting into the Birkin because I could grab the rollbar and slide down into the seat.

MightyMike,

Your new car looks great, and is coming along nicely. I was offered the chance to drive a vette engined 7 a few years ago, and can tell you this. Your going to love planting your right foot. I think the horsepower number was around 440. Plenty !!!

Please keep the build photos coming...

  • 6 months later...

I have finally been able to get some work done on my Stalker. It is nearing completion - I hope. Just started getting the fiberglass panels back from the paint shop - decided to go with Lotus Racing Green.

With a 430HP LS3 and gobs of torque, the car goes like stink. It handles and brakes well too. I need to figure out what's going on with the wheel hop off the line. No complaints.

I just installed the bonnet to see what it would look like. I finished off an aluminum grille, but still need to cut it to fit. I have a new lexan windscreen that I will install after I get the car clear bra'd after the paint finishes curing.

The dash setup is pretty much complete, but looks cheap due to the craptastic dash that came with the kit. I intend to replace it with a genuine carbon fiber dash that I will lay up later this summer. I still need to put some carbon fiber panels on the interior, add quilted leather arm rests, and adjust the harnesses.

Mike,

What did you use to remove the individual coils from the valve covers on the LS3 and mount them remotely?

That design feature of the stock LS engines is their most visually unappealing aspect.
