Croc
This is where a forum is hard to work out when the criticism is literal or non-critical sarcastic humor. It appears my sarcastic humor was interpreted as literal. So at the risk of making the same mistake, I will make the observation that the second photo of the 2012 Caterham R400 SV in the linked ad shows tail lights present on the car. Also, tail lights and wheels are not an option on a Caterham kit - they are standard. That is a well spec'ed Caterham by my standards - enough features, enhancements and carbon to keep 99% of people happy.

Every drivetrain component is either new or rebuilt -- the car is, for all intents and purposes, brand new. The fiberglass bodywork is a very faithful reproduction of the Sir Colin Chapman's original design, but Westfield's tubular spaceframe chassis and proprietary suspension represent an improvement over the Lotus. The car is running an MG 1275 cc engine with twin SUs, bored to around 1331 cc and fully rebuilt to performance spec. Rebuilt four-speed gearbox, new clutch, 4.56 MG rear end. Midget uprights, spindles and modified steering rack. Fresh alignment and oil service. Assembly manual and build sheets for the wiring and cooling systems included. Clad in a neutral medium grey (with excellent fiberglass and paint), the car is a blank slate -- it would look stunning in the race livery of your choice. New wire wheels with period Vredstein sprint classics. Lady Godiva steering wheel center was machined out of a Coventry Climax valve cover. A new Westfield kit is around $20k without drivetrain and wheels -- you certainly couldn't buy a new kit and complete it for anything close to the asking price. Coming in at under 1,000 lbs, it is quite spirited to drive. Currently registered in Georgia as a 1956 Lotus. http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/lotus/eleven/1740455.html Asking $32000

Jen
I'm looking to buy my dad his dream car for his recent retirement! He's always wanted a Caterham Super 7. Thanks! -Jen
Croc
Crossflow or K series. There are not many K series around - maybe 6 or so in the country. Plenty of cross flows out there though as that was the standard engine in the 90s. Price range will be in the $25-31k area depending on condition spec. Maybe even a little lower. This forum will be your best chance of finding a suitable car. Putting a wanted ad up like this is smart as it often flushes on the fence sellers out to actually sell. Which state is your Dad located in? Will there be any registration/emissions issues consider? A Birkin may be an option for him since they looks similar and have similar mechanical specs. Its been a while since I updated this thread so here is what searchbot found for me tonight - not much surprisingly: Locost aluminum mid engined project. It's not exactly "finished". Though it will be sold as a running, driving car, I have not yet installed the headlights, tail lights, blinkers, and mirrors to make it street legal. It is powered by a 2009 Honda CBR1000rr 1 liter 4 cylinder motor (4400 miles on it). This motor makes somewhere around 180hp. I thought this engines rotated the wrong way to use in a seven project but I guess the mid engined layout cured that problem. Lots of parts and pieces to finish off what is done. Croc
Looks like a CMC chassis kit. Could be a cheap way to get a car. Putting aside that car and the Czech clone being advertised on Fleabay, there is not much else worth commenting on there. Over on Craigslist In GA a guy selling a Locost. Been on this thread quite a few times before -orange with Toyota drive train and no front cycle wings. Up for sale is one of the sharpest kit cars that I have ever seen. This car gets attention everywhere it goes! It has been parked since last year when it developed a head gasket leak. It never overheated or anything, just mysteriously started leaking. I have been meaning to get to it but just don't have ANY spare time. It is powered and registered as a 1972 Ford Pinto that is powered by a 2.0 liter inline 4 cylinder with C-4 automatic transmission. That means dirt cheap insurance! It cranked and ran perfectly when last cranked 2-3 months ago, but now it is just gathering dust under my carport. These cars will easily bring over 10k up and rolling as I have seen a few on Ebay go for that with all different types of drive trains. I have been offered 8k in the past when driving it but turned it down. I am selling as- is for $5000 cash firm. If you don't think it is worth that, please don't waste my time because I know what it's worth. A bill of Sale will be provided at time of sale, that is all that is required to register it in Ga. Cranks and runs, just has coolant coming out side pipe and in oil. I have a brand new head gasket set that will be included. Head gasket replacement is pretty simple on this engine. The headlights in the pics have been replaced with better quality round stainless steel headlights. It has a very nice ride. http://images.craigslist.org/00K0K_1z2R21z3ITD_600x450.jpg I appreciate an honest seller and this guy is spot on accurate. It only has coolant coming out the side pipe and the exhaust - so how bad could it be! Asking $5 in the title, if you read the text he actually wants $5000 firm. Decent price with a little wrenching and some front wings. http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/cto/5112723452.html A 1975 Dutton, looks reminiscent of the Lotus 7 S4. 1975 Dutton B+. xcarguy
That's dirt cheap for the Storker; well sorted with history…if I hadn't already built a new chassis (and if other changes weren't on the horizon), I'd jump on that as a second Storker. I don't expect that car to be on the market very long. Edited July 12, 2015 by xcarguy
Oldfart
This popped up on ebay, Miata engine but they don't say who the kit is from. It's partially built "with lots of parts"?? It's kind of a strange ad. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Replica-Kit-Makes-Lotus-7-/311397911973?forcerrptr=true&hash=item4880c30da5&item=311397911973
