Birkin Sump Guard?

Does anyone make a quality bolt in sump guard for my Zetec powered Birken?

 

I've got the stock pan currently installed, but also have a Canton pan that I plan to install some time this spring.

This guard came on my 2001 Birkin, BIY1899. It's made from 3/16" aluminum, is appr 3.25" deep, and bolts thru four mounting points on the frame. There are a couple scratches that are circled in red. With the way my car is setup I haven't needed it. PM me if you're interested.

If you could get one like they made for the Superformance S-1 built, it would be great. It is made from fiberglass and screws onto the bottom of the floor at the frame locations, and has very rounded edges so it glides over just about every speed bump very nicely.

Here is a post from a previous discussion, I think it is important to have a taper fore and aft to protect while backing. The weight issue is minimal since it is so low and this has taken some hits up in the mountains several times, unavoidable, and no harm to anything.

I recently upgraded to a Raceline sump on my Birkin. I also installed a Birkin sump guard sourced from Texas Motor Works. I haven't "tested" it, but it looks as though it ought to do the job.

I don't have a photo, though if you like, I can post one later. It's the same as 11budlight's.

 

 

If it is the same, then I do not need another picture posted. Was just looking at different options.

I thought it was funny you mentioning a couple scratches on the sump guard... if someone is worried about scratches on a sump guard they've got the wrong type car;)

Here is one I had a fabricator friend of mine make for my Duratec powered Birkin with a Raceline sump. It's steel so there is a little added weight but coming from a off-road background I wanted something that could take a real hit and not cause any worry.

 

At the front he sump guard mounts to the threaded holes in the crossmember in front of the engine. At the rear it sandwitches between the belly pan and the cross brace just behind the bellhousing (in the photos the rear tabs haven't been drilled yet).

I second this.

I view it as sacrificial and intended to bend/break to absorb an impact. But after My sump guard ate a rock last year I don't welcome the replacement cost.

 

Your friend did a nice job punching & bending the holes. how much space did he leave between the sump guard and oil pan?

 

 

Gherkin, This looks awsome! I have the same engine/sump on my Birkin. Do you think your friend would want to make another one? I have the stock aluminum guard, but it seems fragile.

Paul, I will talk to him, this one was made from a cardboard pattern that I laid out. I will have my guard off to replace the engine (another story) so I can give it to him to copy. I will get a quote for you first but I believe it will be in the $250 range. I may have him make a few while he is at it. I;ll also check on his schedule.

The guard is very close to the pan, the edges of the dimpled holes are within a 1/4 of the pan. I wanted max protection and some cooling but still keep some ground clearance. The dimple-die holes add quite a bit of rigidity with no added weight penalty.
