Completely lame putting a Lotus badge on any of these cars IMO

.

Totally agree. A lotus 7 is a Lotus 7 but a Birkin is not.

When people ask me what my car is i just say "FAST" :)

When pressed though its "based on a 1960's lotus 7 but built here in Aus" No way i could call it a Lotus.

Here is Australia these kind of cars are collectively known as "Clubmans" after the race category they were built for. Lotus is just one of many makers but the first.

Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges! I don't have to show you any stinkin' badges.

But I will.....There is no way I would try to represent my Locost as a Lotus. It is Lotus inspired. I don't even have a Lotus Key Fob. Well, in truth, I do. It is for my yard tractor key. I think that about covers it.

I really like your grill badge treatment.

Id let the car do the talking. Have a Brunton Super Stalker badge or a stylized "Super Stalker" badge on the rear. All the specs are too production car. Otherwise where do you stop. " 6 speed , LSD , SS, Sport, 24V,NOS etc etc. Who cares. Leave that to the BMW x5 Msport 50D ,Evo VIII MR FQ-400, Impreza STI RA Spec-C type drivers

Thanks. I tried to pay homage to both the Lotus 7 and my power train donor, an RX-7. Adn the license plate speaks for itself.

Here's how I see it:

When someone wants to know what the car is, I say "Copy of an early 60s Lotus Super Seven".

The average Joe doesnt care who built the copy. They want to know what kind of car it is and it is in fact not a copy of a Dodge, nor an MG, nor a Bugatti. It is a rather faithful copy of a Lotus and that is the information that the guy asking the question wanted. Frankly, everyone assumes it is a kit car just because of the cheap sheet-metal look, and I think their view of the car improves when they hear the word Lotus.

If a badge is to inform the passers-by, the Lotus badge is expedient. I have a Birkin and I don't use any badges at all, since they don't work with my paint scheme. Only the nerdiest car guys like myself want to know the details about who made the kit... and what kind of computer is running the engine, and what kind of diff it has, and what shock settings you like.....

Lets face it, these cars are more or less Lotus' design. Its not like putting a Ferrari emblem on a rebodied Fiero with a 4 banger under the deck lid.

An original 7 showed up at the big car show last fall and it was hard to tell it apart from the Birkins and the Cats... and in fact it had been upgraded to a Zetec and wider tires and cycle fenders using some parts from the kit car world. Kinda blurs the whole thing eh?

At car shows I put "65 Lotus Super Seven (Replica)" on the top, and a nice description of the car below, including Birkin of South Africa as the maker of the kit. People love to read that stuff at shows because they're all car guys. I think it'd be weird to put "Birkin S3" at the top.

I have one of the "Club Lotus" badges on the back of my Seven. I purchases a modern reproduction badge off ebay.

I know a guy who has an original badge. He keeps the original badge in his den and displays a reproduction badge on his car. Apparently the originals are worth close to a thousand dollars.

I put a Lotus badge on the nose of my scratch built seven replica as an homage to the seven and to Colin Chapman. When people ask I tell them the whole story of building it and of the seven in general. I can well afford a Caterham or any number of other exotics but I build things and I built my replica. It is a great satisfaction to blast down the road in a car that you built yourself, no apologies for the lotus badges.
