xcarguy
Yes, I really wanted to do this. We have an HOA meeting at our NC summer home every July 4th. Let's see............HOA meeting where everybody bitches about everything.........or a very nice three day track event with a bunch of similar lunatics driving oversized go carts. First of all, I need to get the car finished. It's in pieces spread out all over my floor. Tranny needed new seals, body needs new paint and I need to get it done. Tom, by when do I need to make a commitment on the track event ? Put in new seals, skip the paint (for now) and get the car back together.
yellowss7
At this time, we have pretty much confirmed a good level of interest and Mike and I have been working on the Logistics for meals/dinners as this new level of participation requires a lot more effort than our previous events. I have had you down as interested in attending. The track has not yet opened up sign up for the event so no monetary commitment is needed at the moment. However, I do suspect that lodging will fill up quickly in the area as it is somewhat close to the New Jersey beaches and it is the biggest Shore week of the year. There are 20 trackside suites at the track and as noted by Shane in his post, there are several hotel options nearby, Marriott Fairfield, in Millville, as well as the Hampton Inn in Vineland. There are probably a couple more, nearby, but again I suspect they will start filling up shortly. So long answer is I'd book a hotel room if you can cancel sooner than later, and once the track opens the registration, you will be on the hook for the trackday fee. xcarguy
Two more cents worth, I booked at the Marriott Fairfield in Millville.
yellowss7
I did as well, although I usually just stay at the NJMP trackside suites as they are on site and saves a few minutes in the morning. Tom

Tom I considered that, but thought the wife and kids might want a break from being track side after a full day.
Klasik-69
I just looked up a few places there. The Hampton Inn is at $93/night while the onsite villa rentals start at $183/night. Actually, the villas at the track sound pretty nice. However, as Shane said, a full day at the track may be a bit much for those who don't race (wife). I saw about a dozen or more hotels in Vineland which I presume is reasonably close to the track.
yellowss7
Sorry to hijack this thread. the Villas are individual condo units and I think have 3 bedrooms. Very nice. The Suites are the other track option and are basic, with two nice pull out beads. That are actually comfortable. They run around 70plus a nite if I recall correctly. The Hampton is nice and is about 7 miles away. the Fairfield is about 2 or 3 miles. Hampton is a little nicer IMO, but both are good. Haven't stayed at the Wingate, but it's in the same lot at the Hampton. Haven't done the Holiday INN either and that's about 3 miles away.

Tom Tom , I booked a suite at the track, I took # 7 just because it was still available. And its close to Croc's new track pad, so after I drink most of his better wine, I can walk home.... Looking at a trailer this weekend.... Steve
yellowss7
Steve, the Villas are really close to Croc's new garagemahal. So close You could probably hear him snore at night.:jester:
xcarguy
Lots of good info concerning hotels, etc. for the July NJMP event. Anyway admin could go to page four of this thread and (starting with Klasik-69's July responce) move these posts to the NJMP thread? We could give back lucky dawg's thread. Croc
Getting this thread back on track.... Looking at the prices and doing a quick comparison to prices offshore. I could save $2000 by buying the 6 speed directly if I was looking at things right now. The Sadev can be sourced $2500 cheaper from a quick online google. I then look at the engine and I actually believe it would be cheaper to buy a Duratec from Cosworth which has to be a first. What is stopping us from buying a roller and then buying our own engine/transmission combo? I suppose then the official dealer network will not touch us for assistance with assembly or after sales? Klasik-69
My apologies for misdirecting the thread discussion. Poorly handled on my part as I should have kept to the main topic.

rikker
I agree with dawg. I believe I speak for many of us when saying that we cannot get enough of classic 69! (or any 69 come to think of it).
Klasik-69
Thanks for being understanding. I get all excited about some subject and forget about the original topic, and if I remember right, we were talking about C&D's mention of our beloved 7. After seeing the escalation of the new car pricing, we can all wonder if this will force this car that was previously within the means of most of us now beyond our reach, like Porsche & Audi R10. Will those still available at reasonable prices, like the Stalkers, force their pricing back down or will it become a very low production item like The superformance cobras ($75K+) ? While I don't completely dispute the economics discussion here, getting the ancillaries package sourced and put together definitely adds up, in both time and money. The devil is in the details - where do you source the correct engine harness to interface with the chassis wiring? Which bell-housing will you use? The clutch setup is entirely custom to the Caterham power train application and expected output. Are you prepared to invest in an MBE ECU, and either secure the tuning software/hw, or hire someone else to dial-in the engine calibration? In either case, you're paying for dyno time. Something as simple as a throttle cable assembly can become a huge treasure hunt, depending on induction system and chassis. I can go on and on, until we all run out of words. None of it is insurmountable, and to the buyer looking to solve a grand puzzle, could be the preferred route. The 480 engine package includes a very-trick, *electronically* controlled roller-barrel, which has earned Caterham Powertrain design recognition. We support what we sell, including kits, component parts and systems. And as a Caterham agent, we will provide ad-hoc support to any Caterham owner, reasonably proportional to our commercial involvement. Again - I'm not trying to explain-away, or rationalize the pricing, just filling-in a few details that might help paint a more comprehensive picture. Cheers, -Bruce

Cheers, -Bruce I agree with you that you are selling a complete package and the components you may buy on your own are not "complete" and will require additional design, shopping, trial and error, etc. However, at some point "affordabiity" needs to be addressed. We are talking here about an open top car with all the conveniences of a horse and carriage less the poop. Priced at $70K and you still have to put it together, maybe it's a little much. However, time will tell. If people have the money in hand and want to hand it over for the project, then it will regarded as a success. If not, it will just fade away as another wishful dream that vanishes. No need for further dyno tuning, you say. Mine needed to have the injectors changed from low impedance to high impedance to work properly with the Pectel T2 (supplied by Caterham) on the TWN ITB fitted to the Zetec 2.0L (supplied by Caterham), so 4 hours on the dyno later, and considerable learning on my part on re-mapping the Pectel, I had a working engine that wouldn't grenade in the engine bay. Perhaps if I just drove it around town in very low demand mode, nothing would have gone wrong for many years but this car is meant to be on the track and that is exactly where I run mine so the throttle is either all the way down or I'm on the brakes, one or the other. And it provides everything I ask of it.
Kitcat
K-69. I suspect that the new distributors of Caterham are working to deliver a more finished product than the one you got. Wont know for a while if that actually happens, tho I am impressed with the effort so far. For instance: when did any any of the former Caterham big-wigs show any interest in this site, or the opinions of actual Caterham owners?
jlumba81
"Caterham Seven 280 delivered as an unassembled kit (CDK) $ (3,995.00)" So if you build it yourself you take $3,995 off the total cost.
