NJMP Lightning, July 5, USA7s run Group, Brunton Stalker

A few laps from the last session I ran on Saturday at NJMP with our USA7s run group; what a great time had by all! My apologies for the sound quality (or the lack there of). Following the previous session, I turned off the camera mic to resolve an ignition issue and failed to turn it back on for the next session. The only sound is that of the Traqmate charging the Replay camera. Just turn down the sound for some silent running.

Amazing performance! And you almost never got to 4,000 rpms (redline is 8,000), even doing 145 mph down the straight, you are almost idling the engine. You enter the straight at 120 mph, my top speed at the end of the straight.

Mike,

Redline for me is 6600 (norm for an LS6) with shifts in the 6500 range. Head/cam mods and tune were fashioned around my relatively small 1 5/8" primary headers; no room to breath after that. At 6500, and as long as the engine is gettting oil, it should live a long time . . . knock on wood. :ack:

Now, if I can figure out a good, consistant line . . . . .

It was fun having Shane do " Fly Bye-Bye's" on the front straight. No need to lift,

Shane you got this..... LOL What a blast !!!!!

Steve,

Having a 7's only run group is the way to go. Everybody in our group was faster than stink . . . especially in the twisties. :driving:

WOW, just WOW :hurray::willy_nilly::willy_nilly:

Shane, I can't believe the speed you carried on the straights. 124mph Before the Bridge is just SICK!! And 118-120 before the light bulb/Bowl is amazing. No wonder you were turning 1:09's. You were fast in the turns as well. Looks like next year we are definitely going to have to pull 2 plug wires on you. Any faster and you will need clearance from the Tower for take off. :jester: Great driving. Tom

As they say, there is no substitute for cubic inches!

"no replacement for displacement" is often countered by boost, weight reduction, and aerodynamics.

if by some miracle i get a bunch more track time before next event i may toss on that supercharger i have on the shelf and try to chase after you!

Wow. I'm impressed.

BTW, the two bikes I ride (Honda 599 and Triumph Street Triple) both have redlines above 12,000 RPM and develop useful torque there. Good replacement for cubic inches.

Once again, with regard to Mike’s comment about my rpm’s on track. I just went back and reviewed some other files from the weekend and all recorded data shows the tach as not being properly calibrated. Trust me, I’m shifting at 6500 rpm and am sometimes even hitting the rev limiter in fourth gear on the long straight. Also, none of the files are displaying the gear I’m in. Although I’m now away from the car for another week, I compared the NJMP data to some earlier MSR Cresson data and discovered a difference in tach setup. In short, I entered a new car profile in the Traqmate when I switched from 15” slicks to 16” and failed to calibrate the tach for the new profile. Obviously, I’m still in a steep learning curve with the Traqmate software. Oh well, another botched video. Guess I’ll have to return to NJMP and reshoot the whole thing. Croc, is there a replacement for cubic stupidity?

To add injury to insult (if may use the cliché), Suave is giving me grief over the whole ordeal.

. . . . :svengo:

So I guess you were actually going 50% faster than 145 mph!

Not sure you can trust Suave, you know he was raised by, and imprinted on, Caterham owners Tom and Croc:).

Well actually, I think I adopted him from Ebay, coached him on the strange habits and idiotsyncracies of those from the "Deep South" and gave him remedial training in how to point by before we let Shane take him home. It was pure coincidence that he was sponsored by Suave Baby Care Diapers, however appropriate it may be! :jester:

Shane,

I like the video anyway. Mike wrote" And you almost never got to 4,000 rpms (redline is 8,000), even doing 145 mph down the straight, you are almost idling the engine."

Nice of you to come up with the different size tire stuff. yada, yada, yada.

Maybe you simply have a few cylinders you don't use.

At any rate, we enjoyed meeting you and your dad and watching you and your fantastic car lap us a few times every session. It looks as good from the rear as it does (briefly) in my rear view mirrors. :-)

See you next year.

MichaelD,

Thanks. Dad (and I, of course) has a blast. It was something entirely new for him to experience. And I'm glad that he and Croc got a good chuckle out if my stirring up the dust in turn one. :D
