Yes, that transmission tunnel is tight. Given production tolerances, some transmissions rest against the side of the tunnel requiring extra effort to create a gap. Any updates from Caterham on your missing roll cage?

The easiest way to do this is to highlight the portion of the post that contains the book title, then click the "Quote selection" button that appears immediately below. That will insert your chosen text at the start of your response and is what I did here. Amazon also has the fourth addition: https://www.amazon.com/Magnificent-Enthusiasts-Guide-Models-Caterham/dp/0992665116 -John

I used 3M Epoxy as outlined here. Caterham tries to make up for missing parts by giving you a lot of extra fasteners. I have several pounds left over from my build.

If you're having trouble cinching down the zip ties, two things to try: grab the tail right above the locking head with needle nose pliers that are orthogonal to the tail, then rotate the pliers over the head. This worked for me. place slip joint pliers next to a zip tie, compress the spring which loosens the zip tie, then cinch it down. Do this for the other zip tie and repeat as necessary.

Are you using the zip tie trick?

I've recently seen a significant uptick in notification emails bouncing back due to an invalid address. If you aren't receiving email notifications, and you've verified they aren't landing in your junk folder, please confirm that the email address associated with your account is current. To check and update this email address, visit your Account Settings page. If you wish to modify the actions which generate a notification email, see this step-by-step guide. Thanks, John

Hi folks, this is a for sale thread. Let's be respectful to the seller and keep the conversation to his car. Thanks, John

@CASwede please check your email tied to your account which is used for notifications. it is bouncing back as not found. You can update it here: https://usa7s.net/ips/settings/

@MV8, those "flags" are all false positives. Beachman Racing has been around for about 10 years and he has a very large and impressive shop. I suspect the lack of a physical address is simply to prevent people from randomly stopping by without an appointment. @CASwede send me a PM with your preferred contact details and I'll try to reach Bruce later this morning. I would also PM CatManDo as CBuff suggested.

It looks like you also received the no cost rust option. I'm pretty sure Caterham views this as added character. As per the photo below, my engine came with rust on the clutch, pressure plate, and a portion of the flywheel (look closely at the bottom of the photo.)

No apology necessary. When a thread drift has potential for a deeper discussion, it's best to create a dedicated thread to aid future discoverability and to get more eyeballs on it. People who may have advice to offer for your situation may not see the post if they don't pay attention to this introduction thread. I'll move the relevant posts into a new discussion. Thread moved here: -
We had someone who joined about a month ago, and who has a couple of approved posts, attempt to scam four people today. Three of these individuals were looking for cars, not just parts. I have added a new sticky thread in that forum which points people here. If you are contacted by anyone regarding a wanted or for sale thread you have started and something seems off, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. Thanks to one of our members who did just that, I was able to warn the three other people and ban the scumbag.

I have a sticky post about scammers on the Parts for Sale/Wanted forum, but today, we've had someone attempt to scam four people, three of whom were looking for cars. Please read that sticky post and be careful:

Today was British Car Day at our local cars & coffee event. The six Caterhams that showed up included an older crossflow car with clamshells, a Roadsport SV, a 420S SV, a 420R, and two CSRs, although only one is pictured. I did find it interesting that two owners had the same idea for a personalized license plate; I wonder who got theirs first?

What are your plans for the engine? Are you keeping it stock or going with changes to the induction or internals? Do you know yet what you’ll use for the ECU?
-
It sounds like either the springs have gotten stronger, or the cat bypass pipe places the hooks slightly closer to the hooks on the primaries. I used either two or three zip ties and remember thinking it was surprisingly easy. You are making great progress!
-
Was that using the zip tie method or just brute force?

Don't worry, it won't be graded A build thread can be really helpful resource when troubleshooting in the future. You also get people who become invested in the build and are happy to jump in to provide advice when desired. -

Welcome @ianrobb! That looks like a fun project. No pressure, but it would be great to see a build thread so we can all follow along. Most of the build threads here include a lot of complaints about the manufacturer either failing to ship parts or screwing up aspects of the factory's portion of the assembly. Having a thread where the builder only has themselves to blame for almost everything would be a welcome change -John -
You certainly could drill a new hole. I simply preferred reusing a factory drilled hole.
-
I use a drill bit a bit bigger than the shaft and smaller than the head and rarely run into a spinning head issue. However, in those cases, I've either wedged the head with a chisel to stop it rotating or put some duct tape over the head to hold it in place. Always start with duct tape when cosmetics are a concern.

What a great adventure and writeup! Did Zach make it home without further issues?
