    Folis Jones

As I have said elswhere, Folis was a great ambassador for se7ens in general, and Zetec powered Birkins in particular.
  2. I would advise first timers to not try to do 105 mph around the "bowl". Watch Croc's speed in the video of him in his maroon Cat: 70-85 mph is more like it. I think that's about the best I manage, tho with no speedo in my car, not really sure. Croc really has it figured out but it will take newbies a while to get to his comfort level on that turn. So, maybe 105mph on exit/approach to straight is realistic for average cars/drivers? In slow, out fast is the standard refrain. I have followed plenty of "trains" thru that corner with the guy up front maybe hitting 55 mph. I suspect 60 mph for first timers and then add speed as you go thru in later laps?. I am typically flat out a ways before the apex and all the way to thru to turn one. My goal this year is to start a bit slower so as to go flat out for a bit longer. Croc-thots?

Makes me look forward to my 70th, later this year. I will be semi-retired then, which I define as having more time to do track days:). Thanks for reminding us all that age is truly just a number.
  4. Lots of 200K mile Miatas out there. Of all the things that might break on this Westfield, I suspect the engine will be the last thing to go.
  5. Nice. Can't tell abt yours, but my cover has a strap midway that fastens and tightens underneath and holds the cover in place.
  6. I think one of the car magazines tested it and some other 7's back in '07 or '08 and prounced this one just right-great combo of handling and power. If more power is needed, ask Flyin Miata. They have lots of turbo-charge options for Miata engines. They even turbo-charged their own identical Miata powered Westfield, as I recall. Probably lots of info on their website. They mite have a supercharger that would be easier to fit as well...???
  7. I remember drooling over this car at the 7/7/7 event . It looks as good in person as it does in the above photos.
  8. Cassandra, let us know your location and maybe someone here will be nearby and able to inspect/drive the car and offer an opinion on its value? Many of us have long-suffering wives who have put up with our car crazyness. Therefore many of us would be happy to help another owner's spouse.
  9. I used Toyo Ri's 205/50-15's all around. Not sure if they were optimal.
  10. In my driveway in Ohio. It is a KY car and KY doesn't mandate a front plate. So you can put anything you want up front-or nothing.
  11. Strongly suggest that any potential buyer of the afore-mentioned, caged Birkin, built by Texas Motor Works, do a search on this forum for "Issues with Texas" before plunking down any hard earned cash....
  12. Why not bring them all and we'll let the se7ns group there vote:)? I'd hate to have my impeccable driving reputation sullied by a lack of matching wheels!
  13. I think Burton Power in UK stocks that part. Worth looking into anyhow, assuming you strike out elsewhere.
  14. Michael:You would think with 4 complete sets of Caterham, wheels, I could manage to field 4 that matched! But for complex reasons having to do with $, for the time being I am using my mismatched 15" on the back and 13" on the front. Every year I say I will spend the $ to get the tires that work on my 3 sets of 13", or buy 2 15" wheels that match the front, and every year I have catastrophic mechanical issues that use up all my $$$ (this last 6 months costs included an engine rebuild and new fueling system). So, maybe next year??? In the meantime, here is my car sporting fancy wheels, that were kindly lent to me at NJMP by Karl. Maybe I can persuade Tom (Yellow SS), who now owns Karl's car, to take pity on me and at least loan me his extra wheels for pixtures at NJMP this year:)!
  15. My Caterham met one of its cousins yesterday. I had a chance to drive it briefly. The RHD was irrelevant. The car is so narrow that it just wasn't a problem. I also started to get the hang of shifting with my left hand. Since I am left handed maybe it was a bit easier? But, I'd need a bunch of more miles before I was "programed" to shift without thinking. I loved the SV size. And the graphics show much better in person than in the photos. Every Caterham is the start of an informal parade (or a circus) and this one is really an attention getter: so many smiles, everywhere. It drove nicely, and was well preserved, really a gem (IMHO).
  16. Well wishes to Stuart, Colleen and your wonderful children. As I am sure you know, this thread could be a lot worse. Hopefully after he reboots, life will return to semi-normal. I am sure that having him home will be a hugely positive move, for everyone. Keep the news coming. Mike M.
  17. I have now booked a track side VIP suite, as has been my tradition the last 6 years. Cost $121 per nite with tax for a pretty bare-bones, but adequate, room. The big upside for me is that there is no driving to and from the track to an offsite room. Yes, the motorcycle guys just HAVE to crack their throttles wide open at 6:30-7:00 every morning-who needs an alarm:)? Folks willing to spend abt 2x can rent a onsite condo wh/are very plush and much further from the noisy track garages (The VIP Suites are on top of the garages). I did rent a condo 1x and enjoyed it, tho I was only in the room to sleep so it was sort of waste of $.
  18. Oh yeah, I can definitely detect a small scowl there:). Work often helps define who we are. Take that away and it can effect self image. Easy for me to say, but patience is a virtue. You are doing everything in your power to change the situation. That's really all you can expect of yourself.
  19. I am reliably informed that this car has recently sold.
  20. Caterham wind screen will likely not fit Birkin. I tried to swap my Caterham Brooklands windscreen onto my Birkin and it wasn't remotely close. Tho the cars look the same, the dimensions are quite different. If the windscreen is flexible plastic maybe it could be bent to fit? But, the metal frame for the Brooklands was too wide and too deep (or visa versa).
  21. Lose the passenger:)? Wow, big and bumpy course. Auto-x time is the sum of 100's of tiny decisions, nothing seems obviously bad, you will get smoother w/ more seat time.
  22. Yes, the NJMP event fits your "semi-sporty" criteria. No one takes themselves too seriousy at that event.
  23. Those locks seize up in hot weather. So I always turn on my se7en's air conditioing when that happens to me....
  24. Gert, aka:Slomove. His work is impeccable or whatever category exists way beyond impeccable!
  25. Thx for these weekly photo updates, Bob. I always look forward to them.
