Photos included - lights came from www.customdynamics.com. Fender leds are yellow lights ~.300" wide X 2.25" long I also used these same style lights for my highmount breaklight http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/146070305_hidden reverse.jpg http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1610589340_mini indicator.jpg -
SPA mirrors and SevensElans mount Install
drew... replied to Boxologist's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Drill a clearance hole thru the aluminum mounting plate directly behind the allenhead cap screw used to lock the mirror in place, (centered between the holes that are used to retain the mounting plate to the mirror stalk swivel). This hole will provide access for an allen wrench allowing you to remove the mirror from the windsheild frame and tighten the cap screw without removing the bolt holding the mirror to the mounting plate. Once the mirror is mounted to the windsheild you will not see the hole you have drilled as it is under the swivel. -

SPA mirrors and SevensElans mount Install

A modification that I found helpful was to drill a clearance hole directly under the hex head screw used to tighten the mirror stalk in place. This can loosen up with repeated adjustments and by placing a hole in the aluminum mounting plate it is much easier than disassembling the hole apparatus. -
The frame looks to have been designed around the old flexible flyer sled I used to have as a kid. Pull hard on the left "handle" and the flat wooden frame twisted under you http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1272902653_flexiflyer.JPG

I actually went with Met Life to combine house and vehicles with abn additional umbrella policy. Caterham has no restrictions on mileage and is insured at the full appraised value.

Had to tell this story as I believe this group will understand: At a Track Day at Brainerd International Raceway on Monday for my first session I had a British Instructor ride along. When Chris was strapping himself in he shared with me that one of his first cars was a Lotus 7 and that he had actually purchased it from Graham Nearn, we talked a little about the differences between the original and the modern day Caterham and then went out for a few laps. After two 5 lap sessions Chris asked if he could drive the car so that I could watch his footwork in two of the corners. (A little advice to all practice heel-toe braking and double clutch downshifting - it's a whole new level of performance). To finish the story - as we finish with Chris driving and we are pulling off our helmets Chris, with a huge grin on his face, says: "Man, that brings back memories..............mine was sh**" !!!!! :hurray:

Yes, its hot with the top up (so leave it down). Yes, you can feel vunerable when the chrome bumper of the 18 wheeler is behind you is reflecting the back of your head. Sure its loud. But - these are the price we must pay to have a 3.9 sec 0-60 (or less), handling that the mini drivers can only dream about and thumbs up from the bikers (who have a better understanding of "why?" than most). "Adding lightness" precludes AC, ABS, DSC, DVD, 14 cupholders, 14" woofers, reclining seats, all the comforts of home etc. He needs to take his mini to a track day and tell us where he has the clearest view of the LSiS's on the track with him. It'll be our rear "bumper" as we drive by him over and over. It's all about accelerations - right, left, forward and back. :hurray:

Is it possible to have a long term "relationship" with a 7?
drew... replied to Kitcat's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I am at 16 months and cannot imagine a scenario that I would sell the car (short of financial ruin). After many years of dreaming of a se7en I was finally at the tipping point and asked a friend (non-gearhead) about it. I was asked three questions: 1. Could you sell it for a profit after building it? Answer: Maybe with the right buyer, (not likely) 2. Will it appreciate? Answer: Not likely. 3. Would your Godson enjoy it after your gone? Answer: I finalized the order the next day! As andrew 7 said "its a family heirloom" -
Where do you keep your registration papers?
drew... replied to solder_guy's topic in General Sevens Discussion
registration / insurance certificate - I keep them in a plasic sleeve adhered with double side tape on the verticle surface of the scuttle just over my left knee next to the steering column. Out of sight and out of the way, but there if you ever need them (which is hopefully never!!!) -
Welcome to the new forum - Please check in

Joining USA7s club without going to 7-7-7
drew... replied to Al N.'s topic in General Sevens Discussion
Black Hills South Dakota has some great roads. Although the first week in August wouldn't be good - a bit crowded. It's equal distance from both coasts (and kind of a long way from anywhere) -
A dark green LSiS (believed to be Caterham) was seen on Washington Avenue in Eden Prairie Minnesota at 12:30 today. Anyone in USA7's? We seem to be a rare breed in Minnesota, enough so that I got two phone calls about this car.

Al, the exhaust cover was anodized aluminum that I had stripped and black anodized by a local shop. Actually the windsheild uprights were clear anodized also then stripped and black anodized. I actually found the half doors on ebay! Does anyone know where I can get clear signal lenses? I would like to eliminate the orange and use colored bulbs.drew...2007-03-02 13:41:34

Al - there are services that will take a sample of your lubricant and perform an analysis to determine if you have wear beyond reasonable limits. They basically look for metals, we used to run these periodically on racecar trannys for SCCA and Trans-Am cars. I'll do a little research and get you some sites to look at. drew...

Check out www.customdynamics.com. They specialize in lights for bikes but I have mounted a 14" red strip on my roll bar as a high mounted breaklight and a 6" white strip under both taillights as back-up lights. They are small but very bright.
