  1. That was the same week. We followed up that miserable day with a subzero trip to Road America where it was sleeting and raining and we had coats we bought at a Goodwill store after Putnam Park. We couldn't find a pair of insulated gloves in Chicago. Yes no warm gloves to be found in Chicago. We arrived at the hotel near hypothermic at 4 am we had no dry clothes or shoes. To top that off the room was at about 38 degrees. The only warm thing in there was the shower. We had to leave the room at 7:30 to make it to the track and the pleasure of running in the rain all day. I don't know why we did it again the next year. Blessed with poor memory I guess
  2. This was the first time we did 1 Lap and we were a little green behind the ears. This was one of the worst legs we ever had and it started off poorly. First off we we were in Grand Junction Ia at Mid America Motorsports park. We did our first session and at the end of that session the AIM3 digital dash went out no gauges of any kind. We ran the second session and pulled back in to the parking lot and hooked up the trailer and packed up and the car wouldnt start the battery was dead. So we dug out the spare battery that I thankfully packed and installed it and everything is up and running again, still no dash or gauges. This leg of the event required us to go to No Problem Raceway southwest of New Orleans LA. This leg was 1084 miles and we had about 15 hrs to get there. Ok no problem. So we start running down the road we dont get 25 miles before 7evin gets hit by highway patrol for 85 mph. That was a 40 min delay really didn't need back on the road. We are about 100 miles down the road I flip the fuel pump transfer switch to refill the car from the trailer. This is just a toggle switch off/on style. I spaced out forgetting that it was on and look at the fuel gauge the only gauge in the car working because it was an analog unit in the console. I noticed the tank isnt getting any fuller and after about 15 min we stopped to investigate. We see fuel pooring out the back of the car on the ground. We open the trunk and find the fuel tank has ruptured and had 6" long tear on the bottom of the tank on one of the welded seems. So we have 950 miles to go and about 13 hours to get there. So we take the tank out of the mount and stand it on the side and used ratchet straps to hold it in place and drive to the nearest town. Which has a population of 200 maybe. We find a hardware store that is closing in 20 min. We bought sandpaper. Epoxy putty and paint thinner and paper towels. We sand the aluminum and cleaned with paint thinner and used the epoxy putty to seal the gash. Waited 40 min for it to dry and then reinstalled the tank and refilled it with fuel. No leak. We jump back in the car and need to run 90 mph for the next 900 miles to make it time. So we motor down the road for several hours and about 1 am I needed to get some sleep because I had to race the next day. So I climb in the trailer for a bit. We are going down the road in LA which is all concrete highway that had an expansion joint every 100 feet. I'm bouncing down the road like a golf ball for about and hour or so then all the sudden I fell this sharp jerk and I hear the car engine rev and then the trailer goes airborn for what seems like 5 sec. and landed with a big bounce. I hear Kevin down shift and back on the gas. Im thinking WTF just happened. He finally pulls over about 30 miles down the road. I had been beating that dang horn button for the last 20 min and he was still trucking. Once I get out of the trailer Im about ready to beat some ass. He informs me that he came up to a bridge and the road had buckeled at the bridge edge and there was about a 6" tall buldge in the road and road tracks were pushed down. He knew if he stayed on track it would have torn the bottom of the motor and took most of the chassis with it. His only option was to go off the driving line which was a nice 6" ramp to launch us up at 90mph. I stayed in the car for the rest of that leg. We made it time for our run group but I had to run the track cold I didn't even get a walk around. I had 5 min to look at a track map before my run. I paid him back the when we had to drive from No Problem to a track in Ga via FL. Thats another story.
  3. I dont want to hijack this thread which is what has happened. My apoligies. I will tell the bridge incident in the off topic section.
  4. I haven't figured out how to afford mine yet. I think the Goldwing trike is going on the auction block.
  5. That is a sick looking power curve on that dyno sheet. That car has to be pretty quick. I was looking at an Elite sequential trans they are a little cheaper than the Quaife and handle 500ftlbs of torque. They are a few grand cheaper than Quaife and you can select gears. Im considering them for my next car.
  6. Oooch that hurts such a nice car. Glad your ok to rebuild it good as new. If you track enough its bound to happen at least once. Its a good thing the frame is still ok. Repair shouldnt be to bad.
  7. Thats the loudest horn 7evin could find. The trailer has a horn button in the sleeping area so you can tell the driver you want out of the trailer. Well the previous year we were ripping down I10 from New Orleans to Florida in a horrible rain storm. I was driving, 7evin was in the coffin. The road was standing in water for hundreds of miles it was after midnight and we could only go about 55mph because the back of the car kept hydroplaning. When it would hydroplane the back would step out a bit you would back out of it and it track back. Well 7evin had been in the trailer for about 1.5 hours of this the whole time honking the horn trying to get out of the trailer. With the rain, exhaust noise, eighteen wheelers and ear plugs I couldnt hear him honking. I finally pulled over and let him out and he was wide eyed and white as sheet. After that adventure the trailer recieved a horn upgrade and a dash light. I was just paying him back for him jumping a bridge at 80 with me in the trailer. Thats a whole different story.
  8. Its a bit overkill, but a life saver in that event. When you can fill the fuel tank on the fly it saves alot of down time at gas stations answering questions about the car. 7evin likes to talk and it take 30 min. if you stop in a public place. I make him pee on the road side to save time.
  9. I built a little trailer for our first One Lap adventure. It was way more that what is needed for touring unless you wanted to do camp and tour set up. We used it for sleeping and carrying food, fuel, tools, spare parts, spare tires, canopy, power 2000w power inverter and bike for pre running the track. We ended up using it all 3 years. It worked pretty well for us. Its a little scary sleeping in it with 60 gallons of gasoline behind your head going down the road at night 80 miles an hour with a driver that has slept few hours a day for the week. It is an adventure! It earned the name from the other teams the "Coffin".
  10. They had tornadoes in his area in Dallas the few days. I'll see if I can get in touch. He is usually very responsive.
  11. Congrats. Spoil them and send them home.
  12. I wonder how many Gs that trailer will handle? Perfect for touring.
  13. Sweet road. Nothing like that anywhere near me.
  14. Wow that's cool.
  15. Red would look good with carbon and white

I'm actually installing a steering wheel in my new car so it can go around corners. I guess the next upgrade will be a brake pedal so it can stop too. I only hope to be as great as a Caterham some day. Until then I will stick with my 1400lb 400hp Ultralite and just pray I keep the all mighty Caterham in sight at my next track day.
  17. I would truly enjoy this trip. I just not sure if I can get off for that long. Maybe I could do part of it. I have never been to Canada and have always wanted to see it. What better way than in a 7 where you can smell it as you go. It also a guided tour true the best parts. I'm going to have to try real hard to make this trip.
  18. Busa is that a Kraftwerks kit? We use a/w intercooler because we had issues with the a/a intercooler blocking airflow to radiator. Your intercooler looks small. How much boost do you run? We are at about 23psi. We also mounted ours where the AC used to mount. I was a little concerned the Kraftwerks wouldn't work with our chassis we have a chassis brace there. The TTS kit looks like it would work on a 7. All you need now is a sequential tranny to make it really fun.
  19. Terry I like that combination Rotrex/hyabusa? What size Rotrex are you using? Looks rather quick.
  20. We used a Rotrex in 1 of our cars and it is blindingly fast, and incredibly packed engine compartment. It can become a packaging nightmare to fit everything in there to make it work correctly. The biggest isssue is heat build up. Cooling and intercooling. It can work and is very effective and is fast but not as easy as you might first think. I have heard Dick Brink who is a Birkin dealer is building a Rotrex powered Duratec.
  21. I'm using the Racepak IQ3 in my new car because it has all the main functions on the front page of the display. It large easy to read and you can use remote shift light toount high on the dash. It's very easily expands and has a serial bus for additional sensors so easy to expand in the future.
  22. No flash options available. You can lower vtec to about 5000-5200 and it works great on a light car.
  23. Congrats! You get to spoil them and then send home.
  24. I've posted this before but it goes with this topic. I like the Blacjack Zero. It drives the front wheels and the rear just tags along. It has a nice look and is more affordable. http://www.blackjackzero.com/pages/blackjack_zero.html
  25. Sent you a pm make sure you got it.
