Jack - That has to be so cool to have your car on the front cover of a magazine! I thought the picture could have been taken at TOTD due to the "7" sticker on the headlight. I remember you and your car and I think my comment to you was "I love the paint job....the nose reminds me of an Indy roadster" or something like that. I just wish my Birkin was done so I could have taken it on some of the drives. Nancy's MINI is not as much fun!!

Could it be an eyebolt to use as a tie-down??

Mike, I'm not sure when Birkin started installing driveshaft hoops, but the only cars I've seen them on from the factory were the IRS chassis. Your car would not have had them from the factory. From memory, I ended up bending some 1.5" x 3/16" steel around an old Lucas generator to form a hoop, and had it welded to the frame. Sorry I don't have any photos at work. Mike - Great write-up and nice first drive! The most I've ever done is about 325 miles in a day. I also hated how noisy the fuel pump was in my Birkin. I ended up moving it behind the rear axle on the right side of the car. I made a panel out of .125" aluminum and mounted it to the frame with adel clamps. I then mounted the fuel pump to the panel along with the main fuel filter. I also have a small pre-filter before the fuel pump, with no filter/screen in the tank. It's important that you don't have the restrictive screen in the tank which has caused a lot of problems and can be contributing to the noise. See the picture below of my installation... While Jason wasn't looking you should have swapped your 2001 seats for the 2002 seats from the roller he's building....they're much more comfortable!

Al - How's the restoration going on SB1341? Any timeframe for completion?

My Birkin failed the light inspection when I first took it to the DMV. I ended up having to replace the tri-bar headlights with regular DOT approved sealed beam units. I also replaced the turn signal lenses (just the lense covers) with Harley-Davidson lenses that fit on the Birkin supplied base with minor modification. I had to elongate the mounting holes slightly and put an o-ring (borrowed from an oil filter) between the lense and base to get it to fit properly. The grey ring is the base. Here's a photo:
