11Budlite replied to 11Budlite's topic in Cars For Sale
Jeff7 - I was in contact with the owner this morning and he said the car is not sold. Please let me know where you got your info. Thanks, Bruce :7drive: -
Dermot, Not sure what style you're looking for, but I found some good reading on the Locost site: http://www.locostusa.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1408 You also might want to check Waytek or McMaster-Carr...I know I've seen universal automotive lighting in standard and LED fitments in their catalogs. Then there's always the vintage British stuff from Moss/Victoria British/etc. Bruce :7drive:

I was just in touch with the owner Bill, and he has updated the price to $26,500 and he said it is negotiable. I have no affiliation with this car, but it looks to be a great deal... Bruce :7drive: -

Steve, Thought I'd throw in my limited experience with an ultrasonic cleaner. A few years back I brought a couple sets of SU carbs to work to clean in an ultrasonic cleaner. They were completely disassembled and I didn't keep them in the solution for more than maybe 45-60 minutes, but they cleaned up great. Sorry I don't remember what type of cleaning fluid we used but I seem to remember it was similar to Simple Green as far as how aggressive it was. Bruce :7drive:

Not sure of the details yet, but I certainly hope to be there with the Birkin. Bruce :7drive:

All, If anybody is ever in the Danbury Ct area (right across the NY border off RT84) you should give GMT Racing a call and check out their shop. I contacted Eileen Mitchell and stopped in a couple days ago to get a tour of their facility. Being a dog lover, I enjoyed the greeting by their four dogs at the front desk! Met with Eileen and she introduced me to JR Mitchell who took me for a tour of the shop. Stepping into the shop area I was surrounded by all kinds of cool vintage racing machinery. There were a couple Lotus Sevens (S1 and S2), a Lotus Eleven that ran at LeMans, a real early Bentley, a late 30's BMW 328, a long hood 911, and more tube frame formula cars and sports racers than you could shake a stick at! Well, JR proceeded to give me a detailed inspection of one of the Lotus Seven vintage race cars they maintain for a customer. The chassis, welds, suspension, body panels, wiring, plumbing, detailing, were all exactly how I would do it if I had the skills and the talent! So after being suitably impressed by the Seven, JR introduced me to Dean, who's their main welder/fabricator who specializes in the nickel bronze welding so prevalent in that era's spaceframes. JR brought me over to the chassis jig area and showed me an example of Dean's work. Needless to say, it certainly looked like he knows what he's doing! So JR showed me the rest of the shop including the machine shop/engine room which had a flow bench, all kinds of machinery, and an engine dyno. They work on mostly vintage racing machinery, but I did see a carbon fibre tub from a more modern formula car and what looked to be a couple EFI V6 engines. Here's a link to their site: http://www.gmtracing.com/ And their engine shop: http://www.arjayracingengines.com/index.html The only thing I was disappointed in with the tour is I forgot my camera. :banghead: Bruce :7drive: PS: JR also said they were moving to a new facility next month because they had lots of work and they needed more room.

Thanks for all the additional info and pics, they're a big help. Lots of options out there so hopefully we can work something out. Bruce :7drive:

That's too bad. I never knew he was the actor playing Longshanks in the Braveheart movie... Bruce :7drive:

All, Does anybody have any previous experience or recommendations for shipping a se7en type car in a disassembled state. This would be a bare chassis with engine, gearbox, suspension, bodywork, etc, all apart. Obviously all the smaller loose parts would have to be wrapped and boxed up, but would it be possible to strap the frame to an oversize pallet (is there one big enough for a se7en chassis?) as well as the other heavy parts? I'm also looking for freight companies that would be safe, secure, and relatively economical. Time is not a factor. Distance would be about 3000 miles. I'm checking for a friend.... Bruce :7drive:

I wouldn't mind struggling to get in if I could take that car for a drive! Next weeks video looks to be interesting (at least to me) with a Morgan 3-wheeler being featured. Bruce :7drive:

DB, On most cars, I do the common "find a level surface with a wall, pull the car close to the wall and mark where the headlights shine, back the car up a ways and aim the headlights to the mark" procedure. With the Seven I thought I'd try something a little different to see if it'd work. First I parked the car on a level surface and took the headlight bulbs and trim rings off. I can't remember if I had the nose cone off at the time, but depending on headlight height you might have to remove it. Then I leveled off each headlight bucket in the vertical plane by putting a level (I used my camber gauge) up against the face of the bucket. I then took my 4 ft construction level to use as a straightedge and laid it across from headlight bucket to bucket and adjusted the left-to-right adjustment to get the straightedge flush with both headlight buckets. Please note that this will only work if the headlight bucket face is a consistent dimension from where the bulb mounts. And you should probably find a volunteer to sit in the drivers seat when you do the vertical adjustment. I did this when I first put my car back together and it seems like it worked pretty well because I haven't felt the need to fine tune it. YMMV Bruce :7drive:

Thanks Martin! You did a super job and it's much appreciated! :hurray: Bruce :7drive:

ATTENTION-MAJOR UPDATE FOR 2009 EVENT!!!
11Budlite replied to sparecr's topic in General Sevens Discussion
John, Great news! I was wondering how I was going to attend two separate events a month apart, when I was going to have to travel similar distances. I think it's a great move to consolidate the two! Bruce :7drive: -
