Did you put the plug wires back in the right order? If it was running before you changed the plugs that would be the first thing I would check. Is the Pertronix new? Plug gap? Did you pull out the dizzy? Anyone who can work on old Ford Pintos should be able to help. Any vintage racecar shops near you? If I were local I would come over as I have the same setup except I have a Weber 32/36 2 barrel on mine

This is Russ. My problem turned out to be the wrong flywheel on my new motor. There are two types of starters for these xflows. One that the starter gear pushes out on activation (USA Ford Pinto type). This has a short "nose". And one that pulls in (some older British Escort). The last one has a longer "nose" on the starter. Each one required a different flywheel. As far as I can tell the long nose starter was never on any US imported cars. Once I put a Pinto 1600 flywheel and starter on mine THAT problem was solved.

Don't laugh too hard. I know a guy who did just that when we were in college. It was at an ROTC physical at Whiteman AFB. It caused quite a ruckus. Russ

Also check the throw distance to make sure the furthest out distance of the starter gear is close to the same as the motor side of the flywheel. Is there a dust guard that can be removed so you can see into the flywheel/starter area? Russ
