  1. Klasik-69: here is a link that will show you what the build process is like. I used a few times when I had questions during my build. http://thecaterhamproject.com/ The California Caterham Club site and Caterham UK used to have a build guide available for down load if you are interested. Mike
  2. Terry: What is the purpose of the cable running on the left side of the chassis and ends near the radiator in your second picture? Mike
  3. I was in Las Vegas last week and by chance came across the Carrol Shelby facility at the Las Vegas Speedway. It is about a 20 minute drive north of the Las Vegas Strip on I-15 north. It is a combination of a few Cobras, Mustangs and a GT 40 plus a showroom with the company's current Mustang offerings. There is a tour of the production facility Mon. - Sat. at 10:30 but I was unable to make that. The business must be pretty good, there are 3 or 4 buildings were cars were being worked on. The Speedway itself is a nice facility, 2 road courses, dirt track, drag strip and a drifting area. A couple of outfits there let you burn a hole in your wallet driving various exotic cars for $40 to $100 a lap. Definitely worth the time if you are in the area. Mike
  4. My standard size LHD chassis measures 7". Mike
  5. Ian you may want to post your question or do a search at the California Caterham Club site .http://www.californiacaterhamclub.com/chat/index.php I also sent you a private message. I did a quick search and came up with this thread: http://www.californiacaterhamclub.com/chat/showthread.php?t=1771

  7. I have no experience with the product but have seen this film discussed on blatchat. http://www.premierpaintguard.co.uk/caterham_paint_protection_film.html A search for paint protection on the UK Caterham club site might come up with a few ideas. Mike
  8. Steve: Near St. Charles off of 370 & 94. http://www.fastlanecars.com/classic-cars/service.aspx They do mainly hot rods and muscle cars but might be an option. The Lotus dealer in Chesterfield? You could get a little Lambo seat time while you wait. Mike
  9. I just lost the fuel pump on my Caterham and are 400 miles from home. I am Buckhorn Lake State Park KY Anybody in the atea? I am resigned to a tow home but thought I would put out an SOS. I am using the computer at the front desk so can't check back online. Thanks, Mike.
  10. You might try talking to these folks: http://www.gustafsonmachine.com/ No first hand experience with them but the forum search feature shows a couple of threads. Mike
  11. I came across this concerning recent happenings at Caterham .http://www.skiddmark.com/2011/09/16/behind-the-scenes-at-caterham-cars/ Mike
  12. When I built my car I added torque stripe to critical fasteners like suspension bolts and engine mounts for a quick visual reference ,but a bottle of paint and a brush has the same effect. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cspages/f900.php
  13. Hmm, chop down trees, something manly? Maybe this should be the soundtrack for this thread. Lumberjack Song - Monty Python - YouTube
  14. Just finished reading this http://blog.caranddriver.com/lotus-in-even-deeper-than-you-realized/ doesn't sound too encouraging. Seems to be a replay of the path Lotus went down years ago, forgetting their lightweight sports car roots and trying to go up market. Mike
  15. Is this a fit? http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=262731
  16. i've had a 93 black and tan for almost 12 years. Flyin Miata free flow catalyst and Borla exhaust makes it sound fast even if its not, Boss Frog frame rails , Cobalt seatbelt tower brace and DIY Randall type cowl intake and a few Moss Motors doodads. Engine is stock, I missed the boat on the Jackson Racing superchargers which would have been just enough HP for what I am looking for. Mike
  17. John, your oil leak might be coming from the cam angle sensor O ring. First generation Miatas are known for this, I replaced mine with a factory O ring and the fixed lasted a couple of weeks. I bought a O ring from my local Ace Hardware and will try it this winter. The sensor is located on the back of the head and behind the intake valve. It is used to adjust the timing and a boost to 12- 14 degrees before TDC makes a difference in the throttle response, a higher octane fuel will probably be needed if you make the change. The leak makes a mess in my driveway and also leaks onto a rubber cap sealing off an unused coolant pipe so you might want to change the plug if it has been leaked on. The Mazda part number for the cap is FEA7-13-104 . Check out http://forum.miata.net/vb/index.php for LOTS of Miata stuff, more posts there in a day then we get here in a month. The most popular way to boost HP is forced induction, new supercharger kits are long gone but turbos systems are available. I've had my 93 Miata for 12 years and enjoyed every trip in it.Good choice! Mike
  18. A few years ago BBC4 made a documentary about Caterham trying to come up with a replacement for the 7. I had downloaded to a computer I no longer have and forgot to copy or transfer it to my new computer. Here is the link I had: http://domestic1.sjc.ox.ac.uk/~jn/caterham-bbc4-documentary.mpg The problem is that it is only runs for a few seconds of the show and quits. Does anyone know if it is available somewhere or have a copy I could get without breaking various copyright laws, international treaties or causing the failure of Western civilization? Mike
  19. Speaking of mirrors. Does anyone know where to get the classic suction cup rear view mirror? It is too easy for people to sneak up on me when I drive the Seven. I bought a suction cup mirror from Europaspares out of the UK. It was cheap, $6 or so. I was looking to find a smaller mirror than the one that came with my Caterham and all I could find in the U. S. were the fish eye type for watching a kid in the back seat. The suction cup portion on the one I bought wasn't the best and broke in hurry but the mirror was decent and fit the standard Caterham mirror bracket. With the mirror at the top of the windshield I had a lot of vibrations but moving it to the base of the windshield helped a great deal and I am very happy with it. They had several to choose from. Finally had a break in the heat here in the tropical Midwest and took the Caterham out, not had many chances to drive this year but this weekend looks promising. Mike
  20. We all thought the Lotus 23B on ebay a while back was high dollar, check out the Lotus Indy turbine. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1968-Lotus-56-STP-Indy-wedge-car-/150646273609?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item231337b649#ht_1374wt_1167
  21. Saw this on a Focus forum http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=260058&page=4 http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=260058 Looks like it is still available. I don't know anything about the site but for $30 you can't go too far wrong. I picked up a plug cover on Ebay awhile back for $25 or so but don't see any listed right now. Mike
  22. Don't know the area you are heading to but I've found this site helpful http://www.motorcycleroads.us/index.html Mike
  23. Pictures please Brad, I've put off putting doing the same mod for years. Is the top plate just a cover? Nothing is attached to the cover on the inside of the transmission? Did you make the opening large enough to get a siphon hose in for draining the gear oil? Mike
  24. You make the call Steve, I can do tomorrow or next week or both too. The weather tomorrow isn't good for the 7 but not sure this wet pattern will clear next week either. Mike
