  1. I have a lot of ideas but no technical skills.... combining a rear view mirrow with a camera would save space and kill two birds with one stone. Just throw in a USB connection to download/hook up and use batteries or 12v hook up. Use buttons like some mirrors currently have for garage door openers to turn on/off. If they can put cameras in a cell phone, the mirror housing should be plenty of room. Add a microphone and it would be the perfect place to prevent wind buffeting noise. You could probably put a camear on the mirror side as well to catch both the driver and front view. I'll just take a small commission on each one sold;)
  2. i'd think about a helmet for out of city driving if I didn't have a windshield... mainly for bug protection (sunglasses aren't enough) and wind buffeting. Though some swear the Brooklyns reduce buffeting too.
  3. Ear plugs handle the noise/wind... would kind of feel like a dork wearing a helmet while driving around town, even the freeway. I have a windshield/air deflectors. Guess I feel the helmet won't help much if I get T-boned or someone pulls out in front of me. I do wear my 5 point harness. And am looking at more rollbar for side protection. Seriously, I'd be more worried about breaking my neck than hitting my head... guess I could wear a Hans Device with helmet everywhere;)
  4. Hopefully you can find some bolts on the spindle to go verticle & horizontal
  5. Worse than a Hummer;(
  6. To each their own... it would definately have a lot of people thinking "why?". I'm no mechanic and haven't gotten past the reason you'd want birch plywood seats? With all this talk of weight, balance, etc... wouldn't it be better to just foam/upholster the bulkhead & floor to make the seats while your at it? Really, it would be hard to make something lighter/better than some of the seats you can buy already out there. This seems more like questions of art over performance, so don't let any of us distract you from your vision. Good luck.
  7. My Ultralite only gets hot due to hot air as the driver's side plastic footwell cover has some openings around throttle cable, brake hoses... kind of nice in the winter. It's not due to radiating/conductive heat. The main reason it'll be fine after I seal those is due to the exhaust being on the passenger side. Insulation covers both footwells front & tunnel. I don't notice heat radiating from the top of the footwells.
  8. As long as you don't have holes in your sock... or some stinky shoes
  9. Wow! RIP
  10. Slomove, Since you took this route (sort of), you might like this... history of Hwy 178 http://www.scvresources.com/highways/sr_178/highway_178_tour.htm
  11. They use that route for some long bike races. I've gone about 10-12 miles up it on the bicycle years ago. Keep this drive in mind when for next Spring... when it's all green, fantastic. Like this:
  12. Congrats. Yeah, I think "raw" is a good word to describe the experience. People have become so insulated from their vehicles it becomes quite an experience when given a ride.
  13. I was thinking of putting this on the sides of the footwell between the chassis tubing http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?products_id=494
  14. You might want to angle the back up a tad just in case you hit something backing up
  15. Typical Bakersfield weather.... great for driving at night, only in the 80s;)
  16. Pretty much the opposite of those cart tracks;)
  17. My car is actually in the shop getting the ECU dialed in and doing something to keep the fuel hose in my tank from coming off due to G forces (has come off 3 times - very frustrating). But if I get it back in time I might hook up with you Sunday morning (let you know later this week). I've gone north from Glennville on Jack Ranch Rd (would love to live off that road) but turned left at the T intersection and took Old Stage Rd down to Fountain Springs and up to California Hot Springs (can take a hot soak there). I didn't know you could go right and circle back through Hot Springs. My favorite road on my sport bike was from the Fountain Springs to Hot Springs... fast uphill sweeping turns with lots of visibility. There's a restaurant in Hot Springs but it was closed last time I was up there. I'll have to try that now.
  18. Glad to hear no permanent damage... going to miss the best of Colorado weather I assume. Take care
  19. I like it! Not a lot of shifting and at speeds where you can take some chances.
  20. Glad to see this section... now I can avoid it as I'm too easily baited;)

  22. Actually saw this in another forum and made me laugh.... thought it would make a good topic for April Fools Day but couldn't wait. Have you heard anything similar?
  23. I explain it's a loose replica of a 60's Lotus 7. After that, I call it Lotus because if I say "the 7" or something similar they don't remember the 7 part of my explanation, just the Lotus part.
  24. The E-rod program has been out for a while, with their smog-legel LS3 (even in California). But reading it, I saw this: "...While those are all push rod V8 engines, they won’t be the only engine type available in the GM E-Rod Program. While the release dates are still in the works, GM is prepared to offer the Direct Injection V6 engine from the 2010 Camaro that makes 304 HP and 273 TQ. There is even a rumor of a 4-cylinder option in the works, but no information was available at this time..." Hmmm, this could solve a lot of problems for builders... won't be cheap though. http://www.streetlegaltv.com/forum/gm-performance-parts-e-rod-engine-3971.html#
