  1. I can only think of a few guys that drive their 7s on long trips. It's not really the reliability... though you'd be silly not to carry some tools with you. It's the creature comforts that most people want from a car on long trips. Like staying dry, relatively quiet/buffeting, conversation... These cars are built for lightness/performance. Which means little insulation, you can hear the mechanics of the motor, suspension, tires (squeaks, vibrations etc...). I think these cars may be a bit too hardcore for you... I bet the honda goldwing is a more comfortable set up for touring than a 7. That would be my goal... to try and be comparable to that going down the freeway. Don't get me wrong, there are those that have made their cars trip worthy and enjoy it... just check out that other post where they're talking about a 2 week trip in July.
  2. Probably have airbags for just those occasions... I think Lamborgini has that on a model.
  3. Guess someone snatched up the S2K while you were deciding... sounds like he had several interested at that price. You definately need to get a ride in some 7s so you know what you want. Then it's just a matter of waiting for the car, which can be a while.
  4. Yeah, that was a great deal... lucky guy.
  5. Fantastic! Doubt I'll ever see one in real life.
  6. Dang! Seems I'm always on the lookout for that type of thing in the road (when I should be looking farther ahead)... Goes with the cars unless you got the $$ & room for a dry sump I guess. Saw this for the Honda S2000 http://www.drysump.com/honda.htm Skid plate is mucho cheaper
  7. I don't know much about the mileage, but regardless, you'll need earplugs going down the freeway no matter which car you choose due to the wind noise... plus with the exhaust only on the right side of the S2K, you only have worry about the passenger burning their leg;) I have the weather kit for the S2K that Brian had built for me. Never put it on, except the windshield which I like (kit needs final assembly by upholster). I'm planning on more rollbar protection and would be willing to part with it should you go the S2K route. I put one of these in my fuel tank... haven't had a chance to get back on the track yet. http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/category/Fuel_Safe_Surge_Tank_Collector
  8. Yeah, there's a mini tonneau cover. I think the last couple pics in the album show it.
  9. Sorry, Loren is "WestTexasS2K" .... he's done the One Lap Across America a couple times in the S2K and has built several of them. For some reason the pics aren't attaching... you can click on my name and view my gallery. I put the trunk pic in there.

  11. I guess it's a good sign that everyone seems pretty happy with the cars they have. I like that they're a bit larger than the Cats...though tiny compared to just about everything else;) Your not rubbing shoulders. As far as S2K fit; 6ft 1, 34 waist and my seat is too wide (passenger seat is perfect)... the pedals have lots of adjustment back & forth. The steering wheel is set kind of low and I've seen some guys with really small steering wheels for more thigh clearance. For long distance driving you'd definately need some more padding if the car comes with standard Ultralite seats. You'll probably have to stack some luggage on top of the rear section... like this site has http://www.softbitsforsevens.co.uk/ Earplugs with Ipod hook ups would be nice to have. Loren has done quite a bit of traveling/racing in a S2K so I know it can be done. There is a site on Yahoo for Ultralite owners, lots of fixes/upgrades Here's a pic of my trunk... though I've seen the tank in various configurations; taking up all the bottom, the front half etc...
  12. Thought I'd post some pics of the guys at Buttonwillow today. Everyone was enjoying the day. I didn't stick around for the endurance race... look forward to hearing about it.
  13. Nice... do you have any pics of the seats by chance?
  14. Found this... no real purpose yet but might be nice to know http://www.youremblem.com/catalog/
  15. My car has always felt a little too skitterish in the rear for me. It was super low when I first got it... raised it some and corner balanced it. Still didn't like the feeling (tried reducing the air pressure in rear tires for better feel). So today I threaded up the spring perch a half inch on all the shocks, giving me a tad more than that in ride height all around (and hopefully keeping it close balance wise). Man, what a difference! It's much more smoother and forgiving... guess I was riding too low in the shock stroke before. Perhaps it's not best for the track but it's a ton better on the twisty, undulating roads around here. Most fun (and confidence) I've had so far!
  16. If interested... not much happening sadly http://www.bp.com/liveassets/bp_internet/globalbp/globalbp_uk_english/homepage/STAGING/local_assets/bp_homepage/html/rov_stream.html
  17. Not that I can relate;)

Still got it... though I have to wear glasses;)
  19. Thanks for the pics Jerry... it was those small pieces near the bolt hole that I didn't have
  20. It's kind of funny as I just reinforced them like Powderbrakes (added a strip of metal to make a T out of the bottom brackets) but it broke right over the mounting bolt to the spindle. I'll have to reinforce that area. I have my bias bar all the way forward right now and plan on a remote valve too.
  21. I just bought a 2005 Mini for my 18yr old daughter... been kind of impressed. Hope she don't need a full cage for it;)
  22. I took my car out yesterday after raising the rear about 1/2 an inch because it felt too stiff and the springs were pretty low on the shock (hope to ride more toward the middle of the shock stroke). Of course this screws up my corner weight set up but I have it marked to put back. Didn't get too far as a front fender bracket broke so I'll try again later. RNR, I look forward to reviewing your set up when you get it dialed in. In motocross I couldn't quite make the "expert" class and the main reason for me was I couldn't quickly recover from my mistakes. The good guys always make it look so easy...
  23. It's police brutality, I swear.... http://www.youtube.com/swf/l.swf?video_id=v7cbfaRRqn0
  24. As small as a normal 7 is, you'd think someone would build a 3/2 scale;)
