I bought some custom molded earplugs when riding the sportbike but as soon as I put the helmet on they'd lose the seal. Kept them and wore them with the 7 but found they weren't better than a good set of disposables... don't think they went into the ear canal enough.

I bet that's similar to what the pilot would say when he saw the price of a thrilling little no frills car called Caterham;) ,

Polarized sunglass required for this dash (glare is terrible) - oil pressure & temp over steering wheel. RPM & MPH are large gauges with fuel in between. Circuit breakers under passenger dash. Far left is turn signals (left/right toggle) & horn (black button). Small lights behind wheel are turn signal flashers, high beam & engine trouble (bottom small light). Key switch & pull out headlight switch near big gauges. 4 sockets for power (2 in dash-2 between seats) for cold weather etc.. but too much of a puss to drive in weather requiring heated jacket/gloves.

11budlite, I thought it was funny you mentioning a couple scratches on the sump guard... if someone is worried about scratches on a sump guard they've got the wrong type car;) ,

I still think that's amazing to get up to that speed and back down within that distance... I can't imagine trying to hold it floored and get those last few MPHs while the end of the runway is coming up at incredible speed.

Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York . This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico . But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York . The ship hit an iceberg and sank. The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning. The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as - Sinko De Mayo. WHAT ??? You expected something educational from me?

This is what I made for my steering wheel... couldn't quite fit a proper space between the T and the U

Will be 57 this year, got the S2K six years ago (man time flies...). Other things keep me from really playing with it but wouldn't think of selling it.

Looks Great! I'm thinking of something similar but want to make the upper outside bar removable... leave off for street and bolt on for track. .

Anybody try the new BF Goodrich Rival? I put a set on my miata but don't really push my commuter car. http://www.europeancarweb.com/tech/proven/1306_bfgoodrich_g_force_rival/ .

I think it would be a bit calmer driving a V8 fast... less shifting, less trying to stay in the right rpm range. That being said, I was raised on 2 stroke bikes so kind of used to shifting a lot and keeping it rev'd up. Bet I would come into corners way too fast with a V8 as the sound would be deceptive to the speed until you got used to it. For a 7 that you want to use for a lot of different venues I think a V8 may be best all around. .

Alaskossie, that's going to be awesome. About the only thing in common with my '99 is the color and the rollbar;) Too bad they won't let us do things like this in California.

Probably ought to get back to suspension... but I quit racing dirt bikes when it turned more into an aerial show (never liked being that high in the air). I loved the big road track at Willow Springs but couldn't help thinking my bike is toast if I loose it at those speeds (more worried about it than me). Guess I should feel that way about the 7 but don't for some reason.

I think there are a lot of former (and some still) motorcycle riders/racers here. If it wasn't such a hassle to get to a good riding area I'd probably still be into dirt bikes. Did the sportbike thing for a few years but I'm used to learning from mistakes on dirt bikes and tossing a sportbike down the track is kind of an expensive way to learn;) So the 7 is my best compromise. Now if I only could get my priorities to change and free up a few bucks to throw at the dang car... especially in the set up area (new heim-joints, corner weighing, shocks and a full-cage). I really want to explore the limits of the car. Or should I say myself.

About as hard to get into as a 7 with a top;) -
I couldn't find a box/strap or something to hold a ballistic battery.

I think WCM has a pretty good record in autocross and at the track. With less than 80 cars out there, it obviously doesn't have the $$$/hours of engineering/stress testing that Caterham has (and you pay for). But there are some very competent S2Ks out there that I would have no problem putting up against others (especially considering the money invested). And their suspension isn't completely different from what's delivered; mainly beefed up in areas that have been found weak). I like JohnK and think he'll be the first to admit he takes things to the max (just read all the research he does). And given a 2005 Caterham, I'm sure he'd find ways to improve it (probably more in the reliability department ). With all the main brands, I'm confident someone knowledgeable can set them up (without major engineering changes) close enough that driver's skill will be the deciding factor.
