  1. I spoke to several people about the dimples today. Below 100 mph the effects are minimal. But above 150 mph they can really make an effect if place correctly. Several racers are using them. One of my friends that has spent 11 years working in NASCAR, spent days on end working in the wind tunnel with the Hendricks team thinks it might not be a bad idea to try it. Kenny Tran gave me the name and # of his sponsor in Dallas who does this kind of work. I am going to call them today and chat with them about it. Thanks guys...... I can't wait to try and explain this one to my wife..... Aaaah Honey I need a golf ball paint job...... Martin said so.... Sorry Martin you may have to take the heat on this one...... It was your idea.... RNR thanks for the refferances and info .... Big help. I liked the bubble wrap idea.... Look guys this thing is fresh out of the box, I haven't even finished unwrapping it yet.... And don't let me catch anyone popping my bubbles....
  2. Hey Martin, Its funny you mention a 914. That was my first car. Bought it when I was 14 out of a barn. Spent the next 2 years getting it ready for when I would be 16. Spent the next 2 years after that trying to convince the judge that I really was a good driver..... just fast... He finally gave me a choice to either sell the car or join the military and leave his state.... So I Joined the Air Force and Kept the car..... By the way I still have that car The front cover we are building is only going to be used at the Texas Mile. I don't ever plan on going that fast again... I never thought about making it part of the wing. That is a good idea.... I will pass that on to Loren so he can stay up at night and think about it..... I like that dimple idea..... I wonder if anyone makes a dimpled stick on material. That would be perfect. Thanks Martin.... If all goes well USA7s and the good ole USA will hold the worlds record for the fastest 7 type...
  3. You are right on the money. Getting air back out of the car is as much of a chalenge as getting air into it. Last year I added Boat vents to the sides of the hood. That was a huge help. We are currently skinning the bottom of the car and creating vents on the bottom that will hopefully generate low pressure areas around each vent to help draw a higher volumes of air out of the car. We are considering closing the front of the car up more to reduce air flow into the car for this up coming event to decrease drag. If you look at NASCAR they run a very small opening in the front of their cars. @ 200 mph you don't need a very big hole for air to move through. Plus we will only run WOT for less than 30 seconds then we idle back. To everyone that responds to this thread I would like to say thanks. You have all helped to make this car what it is today. Some times a simple though that you might share big or small triggers a thought on our end and a scary new brain child is born.... So to all of you I say Thank You so very much ! You have caused more sleepless nights try to figure this all out than you possibility know.... :D
  4. Mummm Mum... That is going to be fast and FUN..... I would hardly be able to sleep at night.
  5. Ok after adding a 2.5 gal. oil tank to the car Where O Where can another 2 + gal. tank be added.... ? I am going to change this things Name from Mojito to the Flying Tank Wagon. We currently have 7 (of course) tanks on board...Yes 7. 1 Main Fuel tank (14.5 gal.) 2 Aux 2 gal. sump tank. 3 Over flow tank for radiator (2 pints) 4 Dry Sump oil tank (2.5 gal) 5 Inter-cooler Tank (2+ gal) 6 Dry sump overflow/ breather tank (2 pints) 7 Supercharger oil tank.... 5 cooler/heat exchangers. 1 Inter-cooler 2 Radiator 3 inter-cooler Heat exchanger 4 Mocal oil cooler 5 supercharger oil cooler But no cooler for me or my Beer... Something is wrong with this picture... We may have to go back to the drawing board with this one ! Maybe I could slip a beer in the top of the inter-cooler tank when Loren is not looking.. I know it will be receiving plenty of Ice for those 1 mile blast..... Well back to the original question... On top of the transmission is the only place I could come up with.
  6. Never under estimate a scooter. years ago I got stuck riding my girl friends Honda Helix (250cc) across the Dragon. I decided to make it worth my while, hanging off and dragging what I could on every corner and keeping the throttle open. There were 2 CBR 600's, a V8 Boss Hoss and turbo Charged 1000cc Kawasaki in chase. To all of our surprise one could catch me. When we got to Cross roads of time My friend on the Kawaski said " if there was $1000 on this race I still could not have caught you. You were F^&%$ng hauling." Those things are amazing. Later that day though on the more open road it was another story..... I could not even see them....
  7. That is a great price. We had ours made to our specs by Team Dynamic and had to wait 4 months, and they were way more than $99. We have been very satisfied with them. We even run them on the coffin.
  8. I think we are going to put it just above the radiator layed back at about 18 to 20 degrees and run it across the car. We will run a splitter just above the radiator to insure cool air. This will also allow us to get a bit of ram air effect above 160 mph. Trying to keep the hood line the same and clean for aero reasons. Next time I am out your way I would love to go to dinner..... We will drive the cars. Last time I was so focused on keeping the car in one piece that I did not get the chance to socialize with you like I wanted to.
  9. Wow.... THAT is rolling! I'm sure you spend the next 6 months cleaning salt off everything.
  10. Here is a good resource for finding air filters of odd sizes. http://www.knfilters.com/search/univ2.aspx?ID=S0005 Also If you call K&N they are very helpful. They will be happy to calculate all your parameters and tell you how many CFM your powerplant uses and what filter will work for you. For us it was 947 CFM..... Yeah..... thats more than my 7.3 diesel. Here is a website for engine design calculations. http://www.ajdesigner.com/phpengine/engine_equations_volumetric_efficiency.php also automotive calculators http://www.csgnetwork.com/automotiveconverters.html We had to order the largest flat panel filter K&N makes. (22"x7") Now we have figure out how to make it fit....
  11. Hey guys. Just wanted to do an update. We have been laboring away trying to get ready for the up and coming Texas mile. Just finished plumbing the dry sump today. 23 feet of AN 12 hose ! I could not believe it. 16 AN12 hose fittings and 17 AN12/10 to O-ring boss and NPT fittings. Got a really good deal on the fittings and the hose from BAT http://www.batinc.net/mocal-central.htm Their prices were really good and the quality is also good. I would love to use nothing but Aeroquip or XRP, but I can't justify spending $3000 on fittings. Although I do have some Aeroquip and XRP fittings on the car. I really like the way XRP does their Clockable 90 degree AN to AN fittings. Very small radius 90's. As we all know every square centimeter under the hood of a 7 is precious. I think we spend the most time just trying to figure out where and how to get things to fit. XRP has a downloadable PDF catalog that is fantastic. http://www.xrp.com/
  12. We run an AFCO Scirocco/Pro stock style radiator. I think the JEGS part # is 51960. around $250.
  13. Agreed ! I am not having dreams about driving the Mini. And the torque steer on the turbo is a handful to say the least. But that thing really goes for a out of the box car. and it hauls stuff...
  14. You know your roads down under... I wish I had posted this before I left.... I would have went and drove all of those roads... Yes the picture of my wife is the coastal bridge road, got there through the Royal National park..... great road. RT 69 is the Putty road to Sydney. Awesome run. I am sure before the end of the year Hertz will be calling me to inform me that I owe them money for all the great pictures the speed cams have of their car.... I maybe going back in November and I will take your road list with me. Wow growing up in Sydney must have been very interesting. Everyone I spoke to said the city has changed so much in the last 30 years. I just loved the wild wild west feel of Australia, and Sydney is such a cool city. Although when we arrived down town at George and Campbell st. I thought we had arrived in Shanghai not Sydney.... It was the heart of chinatown and we were the only pale skins in sight..... My wife and I had never been to an Opera so she said she would schedule one about 7. I was so excited.... When we got there it was not about a 7 at all .... it was about some girl that was a sleep walker and ends up in someone else's bed.... Tricky girl my wife
  15. Business, But took a couple of days of for fun. !
  16. The camber on the turns is not quite as intense as rt 129, but there are a sh#t load of turns... and Johnny Cooper was up to the task. I was just sure I would see a 7 on this road... You could not live here and not drive your 7 on this..... its just to good. I have to say I think Sydney is in the top 3 cities in the world that I like. Other than they drive on the wrong side of the road....
  17. Next Stop... Wine Country.... and RT69 YeHaa.. You know it is going to be a fun road when you see signs like this. " Set Up - Start Wide - Finish Tight " Gotta Love it !
  18. Arrived in Sydney only to find out that Hertz did not have the Toyota hatchback I had requested.... They tried to upgrade me to several other equally exciting cars but nothing really suited my needs. The guy says well I do have 1 Mini Cooper left. Its a hatch back........ and it is the S model. Hummmm... Ok I'll take it. After a quick study of the manual we had it in sport mode and the traction control off ! One word on this.... in this configuration keep both hands on the wheel firmly when matting the right pedal... This little monster goes like it is on fire.... 172 hp Turbo with the tiptronic paddle shifter... I completely understand why people dig these cars.... I love Hertz... I am surprised they don't have a picture of me with the following warning in all their locations .. DO NOT RENT ANYTHING FUN TO THIS GUY!
  19. A little more air and he would have cleared the bridge completely. Thank goodness he hit the pillar of the bridge or he would have went into oncoming traffic. Lord knows how many people that might have killed.
  20. That is one Beary Happy Bear.... smiling ear to ear.
  21. Fun Fun FUN 1... I am sure you had a blast.
