We suffer from the same issue, trying to get the tires hot enough to be sticky. The rears aren't to bad you can just over power them and make them build a little heat. But then the car wants to push because the front doesn't have enough bite. I should have my 7 fully functional by early October, maybe we can have a track day at Hallet, and have some fun. I would love to ride in or drive your car. If you would like I will return the favor and offer you the same in a 7. Not fast like a V8 7 but she holds her own. As you can see below, unlike your cars there are some things I can't pass. I love how you guys were blowing everything off the track, that is such a gas I look fwd to meeting you. Thanks again for sharing all your great stories
  2. Defiantly decreases the pucker factor wondering if it going to clear...
  3. You are very correct, We use a Mocal oil cooler that uses coolant from the radiator. Of course you can see the oil tank is mounted above the passenger compartment.... this keeps the driver cooler... For us, we are spraying loads of alcohol... Nice cooling effect. Of course these are all considerations when building the car, We will not be able to tell how these things work until we test it. Allot of it gets lizard skin, but that only goes so far... We are trying to make it as fast as possible but still keep it street-able.
  4. I have invited Gary from ARE to join our forum. He should be able to answer any and all questions about dry sumps. He has a great deal of knowledge.
  5. Here are a couple of pics to show the difference between wet sump and dry sump, as far as ground clearance goes. Keep in mind the engine has been lowered in the car a bit

Big difference from 120 seconds to 80 seconds.... WOW.. That is Fast. It is such an honor to have you here on our forum. It looks like you have figured this turning thing out pretty fast. Those are some really wide slicks that you have on that little beast, May I inquire what size front and rear tires you are running? Next, I would be curious to what kind of tire temps you have when you come off the track? The biggest problem we have experienced is that these cars are so lite that it is very difficult to get heat into the tires. I have yet to drive an atom but I sure would like to at some point. With upgrades you are doing that thing is going to be mind blowing... Any idea what kind of HP you will be squeezing out of it? I raced with Peter Thomas during the 2008 UTCC at Button Willow, His Atom was nothing short of blistering fast. I was very impressed.
  7. Good eye We call that POWER steering for the Rear tires .. Hank: Bingo It is our Rotrex Super Charger. C38-61 http://www.rotrex.com/Home/Technology/Product_Overview.aspx Beagley: You pretty much nailed it. What motor are you running in your car? pros -more power with dry sump -consistent oil pressure -increase ground clearance for extremely lowered cars (oil pan is pretty low -larger oil capacity -inline oil cooler easier to run -return lines for turbo easier to run -less aeration cons -cost.... -belt breakage on external pump -weight -complexity Know.... I find the older I get the more I realize I Know very little... Fear.... That is reserved for the current form of Government we find ourselves under. Punishment.... When my wife takes the Keys to Mojito and tells me I have been a bad boy... This usually happens at the end of the month when she figures out how much money I have spent on what she calls the other women in my life (Mojito). Look around the site there are some really incredible people here that are way more knowledgeable than I, who have posted some fantastic info. My Friend WestTexasS2K is one of them.
  8. Congrads !!! It is so good I have dreams about driving my car... Sometimes in those dreams I even have money... I think what make 7 drivers so cool is that their brains get more oxygen from all the fresh air and all the adrenalin from shear fun.
  9. Beagley: 1) how you develop and/or decide to use a dry sump system? It became a necessity for us because we were pulling more lateral acceleration out of the car then Honda had designed the oiling system to handle. RD rocket (chuck) was the first to come across this. The development came from hours of research and phone calls. Then buying the hardware and making it work. 2) Do you have a build log of your car(s)? Our (Loren and I) whole goal was to push the envelope as far as we thought it could be pushed, find the weak spots and make it stronger. We have a semi build log here on the USA7s site. @ http://www.usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=2107 Some of the stuff we were doing was kept quite because of development for the company. 3) What made you decide to use the s2000 engine? Honda test these motors at 9000 rpm, max load for 100 hours.... It is one of the best 4 cylinder motors on the planet (IMO) 4) Is yours track only? Our car is in full street trim. We could easily shave 200 + pounds off the car if it were track only. We have everything from intercom, to suit heaters, to navigation to mp3 on the car 5) How do you determine how many lines and pumps are necessary? Lines.... if there was a hole where oil leaked out of it we put a line there... Pumps, We looked at the volume that the VTEC motor flows while in VTEC and pumped it accordingly. 6) Is it a magic mathematical formula or is it based on the amount of oil that needs to be sent to the individual channels? You have one input to the block, 1 pump that is adjustable for that and then you determine what you need to scavenge and add pumps accordingly. Chuck runs 3 I think on his XR7 we run 2. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/fuel-efficiency/fuel-consumption/question331.htm Jimrankin: 1) How much ground clearance did you gain? At the end of the day most likely not much because we can now run the car lower to the ground. I will post a picture of it before it was lowered. 2) What do you want for one of those pans? I think I paid 2 something for them, I take $100 each 3) Did you do the sump mainly for serious track use? The tank looks really trick by the way, nice work. Thanks, We built the car in 8 weeks and there were alot of things we wanted to change but were unable to because of our dead line. The last year and half we have be doing just that. The Mojito version 2.0 should be right as rain... We expect it to out preform version 1.0 on multiple levels. So we are trying to cover every base. Sumpin it must occur when you are humpin it this hard... Thanks for the interest guys if I can be of further assistance let me know.
  10. Man THAT is SO COOL ! I like that better than the snow plow...
  11. I don't think there is enough technology on the planet to fix stupid... He never even looked to the right....
  12. Man I hope he got that 200 mph run on 1 of his HD cams...
  13. Hey Guys , Check out this cool add on for your dirt bike http://hellforleathermagazine.com/2008/02/ad-boivin-explorer-aprilia-sxv.html
  14. RNR, Awesome run at Button Willow. Great lines, and smooth. It was interesting to see that at every turn you would brake later than the CAT and carry a bit more speed thru the corner than he did. Of course he was putting it on you on the straightaways. Nothing a little boost won't fix... BW is such a fun track, looks like you guys were in 7 heaven out there. The nice thing about the way Loren suggest to do the brakes is that as the fuel load changes you can tweak the rear bias. That way you can keep every thing on the knifes edge. Our fastest lap during the UTCC was 158.6 giving us 12th overall. Got beat by 400ths of a second by an atom... http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/events/utcc/results/ How do you like your DL1? I have the Dash 2 and I really like it. Next time we are in the west I will let you know. Warning ::: Once you open this can of worms it get mighty hard to control.... I tell people driving these car is the funnest thing you can do in a car with your clothes on... I have really enjoyed your blog, thanks.
  15. Man that Hahlin7 is one bad mother..... That and John Meyers LS powered Stalker are probably 2 of the fastest 7 s on the planet. The Hahlin 7 is running a turbo Volvo power-plant, 510 hp to the ground. at the drag strip 150.9 mph.... that is rolling. I have a in car video from Run n Gun of us running on the track with John, That guy can DRIVE... The Donks, I love them... As far as aero goes they seem to win hands down. The Dragon, (tale) I have spent many years going to the Dragon on sport bikes. I was always rather proud of my time from lake to stateline. A little while back we had the car up there just having some fun. While stopped at the Cross Roads of Time we had a couple of guys come over and ask us about the car. I shared with them it was the fastest thing I had ever had on the mountain. They were surprised. They said " sure it is fast, but I doubt it would run with our Aprilia's". I was was rather confident it would. So we put a little wager on it and I agreed to let them pass if they caught me. State line to the lake. When we arrived at the lake we got out of the car took off our helmets and waited for them. When they arrived they both parked their bikes took off their helmets and ask " what the Hell is that thing !" Come to find out they both road race bikes and where floored any thing that was street legal could run that fast. They ask if we would follow them to the ATM so they could pay us what they owed. I laughed and told them this one was on me. I call it lesson # 7 Ok back to Aero.... We are hoping to have time to test the changes that have made to Mojito in the wind tunnel over in NC. that is the only real way to tell what works and what doesn't. I will post the video's of the event when we are done. Wings, They really don't do much for you as far as making the car clean and slippery. But when you are in the triple digit arena they sure help you keep it planted. Down force can be achieved several ways most of them require a wind tunnel and a large stack of cash. Then there is the Hill Billy/ Red neck way. Put wingz on it and supe it up... Bster13: (HPDE) if you can drive well and you learn how to brake late and carry your speed thru the corners you will exit with so much more speed then the others they will have a very difficult time keeping up with you in street cars. MoPho: I assume you are the photographer that took the pics on the website you have listed? Wow... Those are some of the best pics.... If we are in your neck of the woods at an event I would like to have you come a shoot pics for us.
  16. If you are only using it for the street or just doing lite track days stay stock. It will always pump oil and do what it is suppose to do. Most dry sump systems are belt driven, so alignment of you pump to the center line of your crank is critical. (see pic) Of course ground clearance is a definite pro to this. Saves on JB wield. (if anyone needs an oil pan for a s2k I have 2 that are still in the box) It eliminates the issue in the pic when finished, you are about even with the frame. Hoses and lots of hoses make for issues, (con) where to mount the oil tank? or in our case custom build a tank to fit. Lots of challenges, but I think that is what we all enjoy about these cars. I would be happy to share more if you are interested.
  17. I guess not...
  18. Word from the man is that the data logger showed 170 top speed. Rockin like a hurricane.... That is one fast 7
  19. Good lookin car , good lookin woman,,,,, Lucky Man.. Congrads.
  20. Wow... I guess nice guys do finish on top ! Congrads John. That V8 stalker is a rocket ship.... and John is an awesome driver. The competition at these events is unbelievable, and no expenses are spared. It is a real testament to John and his car.
