  1. I'm kinda partial to this one. Not that I'm biased or anything like that. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1318927545_DSC03024.JPG
  2. Dino, Where did you get that breather filter with the orange rubber? Skip
  3. Where where? Nothing to link to a video. I wanna see this beast run! Skip

    Eleven

I would be interested, how much would they cost? I'd like one set up for a Miata donor as I have a spare 1.8 engine and trans looking for a new home. Skip
  5. Mazda, That works, it all fits on the screen without a scroll bar at the bottom. Thanks! Skip
  6. I'm running 800 x 600, again to aid my aging eyes. It seems stange that the USA7s banner would run off the screen yet the advertising banner and forum sections size themselves correctly. Skip
  7. Mazda, Let me add my thanks, those of us with aging eyes do not read white print easily. The banner goes off screen with a scroll bar on my monitor while everything else fits on the screen. Is there something I can do about this? Skip

    Weigh In...

The corner weight on my Caterham SV last summer was a relatively porky total of 1,338 lb with about 7 gallons of gas. I've added about 25 lb to it over the winter with the FIA roll bar, Rhino liner under the fenders and on the rock shields and I am about to add about 14 lb for a new ECU and water injection system. I'll post back next time I weigh it. Skip
  9. Mine was losing time as well when I first got it. I never did wear it because of the smell. After reading this thread, I decided to pull it out and see if it was keeping time but it was missing from it's box and I have no idea what happened to it. The box was sitting right next to the bottles of Lexal I brought up from the shop but never got around to using. Skip
  10. Since it is an "alternative fuel vehicle", there probably aren't any emission regulations for kerosine fueled engines. Skip
  11. I have to wonder how much heat and jet fuel fumes blow back on the occupants not to mention the soot jet engines leave at low altitudes. Are there any performance figures for the car?
  12. I thought bananas were the (temporary) cure for noisey differentials.
  13. My engine installation is a one off custom so the original Caterham hoses weren't even close. So I did it similar to Dave except I just stared at the area until I had an idea of the shape and length in mind and went to NAPA and they let me wander the racks of hoses. I chose several that looked right and bought them, took them home to see if one would fit. One worked out perfectly from the rear of the engine to the top of the radiator. Turned out that hose was from a Cadillac Escalade. I had an agreement that I could return the unused hoses for refunds. Did the same thing later with the lower hose. Skip
  14. :iagree: That first drive is the sweetest one even if it is short. :7drive: :7drive: :7drive: :7drive: :7drive:
  15. Common bar soap rubbed into the crack makes an effective temporary sealer for gas tanks. Used it many times when I was a poor kid and couldn't afford a new tank.
  16. +1 for the Knobmeister. Joe is a friend of mine and makes great shift knobs among many other things. He will make custom knobs in all kinds of wood as well as the metal ones with whatever you want on them. Skip
  17. My car had 562 miles on the odometer (and about 1,500 without the odomoter working) when I put it back on the road a couple of weeks ago, its up to nearly 800 so far including one track day this month. I'm going for the towing award since any trip of more than 6 hours requires me to trailer it so I can bring along R2D2 (my LOX tank). Skip
  18. I just returned from a trip to Kansas and Missouri. For the first time, I saw decals on store windows banning weapons on the premises, right next to the ones banning smoking. I grew up with guns, a BB gun and then a .22 were a normal part of life for myself and my friends. I still own guns and enjoy shooting them from time to time. A few years ago while living in California after the Northridge earthquakes, I used my .357 to capture a drug addict who was trying to steal a car from our mostly abandoned neighborhood. He and his friends had been breaking into abandoned homes and ransacking them, stealing what they could and trashing the rest and leaving behind their used needles and other drug stuff. I also used it to run off some low life squatters who were causing trouble in the neighborhood. For about 9 months after the quake it was like living in a 3rd world country. Once the word spread that there were a couple of people still living in the neighborhood who had guns and were willing to use them, the trouble stopped. Skip
  19. Bob, How did it feel at 130? Skip
  20. No, the inner half of turn 10 is still cone zone city. Supposedly they are working on it this week and next. They are also reworking turn 9. Skip
  21. I totally agree with you on the driver skill. No matter how fast you are, there will be someone out there who can step into your car and shave off seconds per lap. I'm reasonably sure my car would be faster in a drag race, but drag racing isn't where I am at, its those lefts and rights that get my adrenaline flowing. My car is very stable at 130 mph, doesn't seem to float or wander so maybe those whiskers and the chin spoiler are doing their job. I have Brooklands windscreens coming which should help out with the top speeds. Skip
  22. Bill and Keith are much more experienced drivers than I am. The only time my car and the Westie were on the same part of the track at the same time was late in the day and my car was suffering massive knock from the crap gas I bought in Pueblo. I had pulled 4 degrees of timing across the board and was still getting knock and the engine was getting hot. Top speed at the end of the straight had dropped from 130 to 110 so my car wasn't performing well. Bill came up behind me and I waved him by, then followed him for a couple of laps. He was slowly pulling away on the straights at that point. Early in the day it would have been much different. He has water injection and no intercooler and was adding timing during the day while I was removing it. Because of the problems with the knock and crap gas, I have ordered a Hydra ECU and a Hydramist water/methonal injection system. Should solve those problems and gain me a few more ponies. We will be running timed laps this summer at the Flyin Miata open house, we will find out who is top dog at that time. BTW, Keith is not running a turbo on his Locost at this time. He brought the Targa Miata to this event. Skip
  23. Thanks Steve, it is quick and fun. This was a Miata club event although there were 2 Elises, Flyin Miata's turbo Miata powered Westfield, Subaru STi, supercharged Mustang and a few other non Miatas. There were 19 cars on a 2.2 mile, 10 turn road couse. You rarely have to deal with other cars. Passing is allowed only on the straights with a wave by. The great thing about these Miata club track days is we split the rental of the track ($116 each this time) and we don't have run groups or corner workers. You can get 8 hours of seat time if you can stand it. Skip
  24. Sorry about the extra BS at the end, I don't have any video editing software. Its also is a good idea to turn down your sound as there isn't a wind filter on the microphone. Skip
