  1. Bruce, Thanks for the kind words. I didn't set a completion date and took my time on the build so I had plenty of time to do it the way I thought was best. In warm weather with the stickier R888 track tires traction is not a problem. It always breaks loose a little in the fat part part of the power band in the first three gears but it is controllable and doesn't seem to make a difference in acceleration. The car has 53% of the weight on the rear wheels before I climb into it which helps. In the colder weather with the Dunlop Direzza Sport street tires traction is always a problem if I let the boost come on strong but it is a real sweetheart to drive until you go WOT. Then you better have one hand on the wheel, one on the shifter, one eye on the tach and one on the road and be ready to catch a small sidestep when you bang off a shift. A number of passengers have reported that the front wheels come off the ground about 4" when I hit 2nd gear with the sticky tires. I haven't been able to confirm that as I'm too busy to watch the front wheels down at the pavement level.
  2. Bruce, I think you are talking about my Caterham, not Busa's. The info in the British V8 article is a few years old. I changed out the Link ECU for a Hydra Nemesis with water/alcohol injection and the last dyno on the engine was 301 RWHP and 265 torque. It hits full boost by about 3,200 RPM and turbo lag can be induced by being in a higher gear and below 2,200 RPM. Power to weight ratio is now 4.55 lb/hp. This engine is getting tired. It has 15k miles of WOT abuse. I love G forces, especially in the straight forward direction. Two cylinders are down on compression and it blows smoke when backing down against compression but the turbo makes up for the lost compression. The current engine is completely stock except for the turbo, 550cc injectors, fuel rail and stand alone ECU. I have a couple of spare engines and I'm debating whether to just stick one in or build one up this winter. 400 hp is fairly easy to get with the Miata engine. Its not a drag car but you can never have enough hp. Its a blast on the track but has far higher limits than I do. Speaking of HP, check out this 1,300 HP Rolls Royce:
  3. That worked, one is on the way. Thanks MoBoost.
  4. breezy7, where can I get that one?
  5. That looks really good, how does it sound? Is it too loud?
  6. At LOG 27 there were a Westfield and a Donkervordt as well as a few Caterhams. 15 or 16 Sevens in all. I don't recall if they had a separate classification for clones other than Caterhams. I was told all Seven types were welcome. At LOG 31 my Caterham was the only Seven present. The closest thing to a Seven was a Lotus Mark VI.
  7. As the weather is sunny and approaching 50F I decided to take the Caterham out for our last blat of the year today. There is snow predicted for tomorrow and Christmas day and highs in the low 30s for the rest of the year. I ran a couple of errands and then took the long way home. Nothing spectacular but I did find a few places to bring the boost up and exercise the gears and fling it around a few corners. I got a few strange looks from people and some waves and thumbs up. Not a bad last blat of the year. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the good people on this forum.

  9. I liked the Shay type engine with the vertical pistons. There is a full size one that pulls passenger cars on the Georgetown Loop here in Colorado. http://georgetownlooprr.com/uploads/fck//image/shay9.jpg
  10. Me too although we are predicted to get our first heavy snow of the winter tonight.

  12. Terry, I have it blocked out on my calendar and plan on attending but it is too early for me to make the commitment. I think there are others here who are in a similar position, just too early to commit. My car will add to the Caterham count. BTW, that 4,300 maximum altitude you quoted me, was that in feet or meters?
  13. Very entertaining story. http://expeditionportal.com/adventures/featured-adventures/1739-chasing-the-cuban-gullwing.html
  14. The dates and other info were in post 1 but it looks like Busa edited it out. Early August, host hotel is in Corning, NY.
  15. Even hemlock has its medicinal uses: From Web MD Despite serious safety concerns, hemlock leaves, root, and seeds are used to make medicine. It is used for breathing problems including bronchitis, whooping cough, and asthma; and for painful conditions including teething in children, swollen and painful joints, and cramps. Hemlock is also used for anxiety and mania. Other uses include treatment of spasms tumors, skin infections, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, Sydenham’s chorea, and bladder infections. Hemlock has also been used to reverse strychnine poisoning.
  16. A friend who is doing a scratch built SV size Seven planned to buy a dash panel from Caterham USA only to find out they don't sell the vinyl covered aluminum panels any more. They only have textured powdercoated panels. So if someone has converted an SV to carbon fiber and is willing to sell their old, good condition panel, shoot me an EM or PM.
  17. Ah, but think of the power to weight ratio. That would be about 1.4 HP per pound (instead of pounds per HP). As I like to say, too much horsepower is just about right. :jester:
  18. If it really had 1,700 HP I would have already bought it. I'm assuming the HP stands for High Performance.
  19. Now I know why he is selling the Seven. I'm very envious.
  20. The owner has informed me he has taken the car off the market for the time being.
  21. Colorado's governor signed Prop 64 into the state constitution today so now we have legal medical and recreational pot. To celebrate in advance, two students brought pot laced brownies to a CU Boulder history class "bring food day". The prof and some others ended up in the hospital. None of them knew what was in the brownies. The two idiots are in jail with four felony charges each. http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_22157591/cu-boulder-students-arrested-feeding-victims-pot-brownie
  22. This ought to fix the problem:
  23. I'm in depending on conflicts with other events already scheduled. I am putting together a fund raising rally with blind, Braille reading navigators scheduled for June 9th and am planning on the GBB and FM Summer Camp, both in August. I would prefer just one track day and more time spent on mountain roads with the track day at the end. Did you consider the Pueblo track and High Plains Raceway? IMHO both are more interesting, pure road courses vs. the infield plus part oval of PPIR. Let me know if I can help with planning or logistics on this side of the mountains.
  24. We sure have a bunch of old farts on this forum! I hit 68 last August. Been a gearhead all my life and always wanted a Seven but until Caterham came out with the SV I couldn't get my big feet to hit only one pedal at a time.
