  1. My '04 Caterham's speedo came with the DIP switches. I could not calibrate it to the Hall effect sensor reading the front wheel studs. I had to buy a newer speedometer and was able to calibrate it.

    RIP Dad

Mondo. My sympathies, its hard to lose a parent. Hang in there.
  3. The Brits call them Bobbins. I'm fairly sure Caterham USA will have them in stock. You might also try shops that do custom exhausts. Goggling exhaust rubber bobbins brought up a number of places that sell them.
  4. Read the article before viewing the video. http://www.businessinsider.com/heres-the-hilarious-new-old-milwaukee-ad-the-company-has-been-hiding-since-june-2012-9
  5. My Caterham with the standard locking cap takes gas well if I put the nozzle part way in and set it on the slowest speed. Doesn't take all that long since it only holds 10 gallons. I use the time to reset the Caterham Butt Extractor so I'm ready to go when the fill up is complete.
  6. Fantastic image, its now on my background as well. Thanks.

PistonHeads Blog: If you're going to race like this it's handy to have a car you can fix with a hammer and zip ties. http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=26295&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=html&utm_campaign=2012-9-5 http://images.pistonheads.com/nimg/26295/CaterhamSnetterton_60.jpg
  8. Which one is your car?
  9. http://s1261.photobucket.com/albums/ii584/scannon929/Monterey%20Motorsports%20Reunion%202012/ My point and shoot camera does not do well on the track action photos, sorry about the low quality. The pictures in the pits came out much better.
  10. I kinda liked the dancing/swaying rear view mirror effect, Sort of reminded me of a cobra, the snake not the car.
  11. There were about 100 plus very rare cars aon the Pebble Beach Tour d'Elegance last week. They don't run the 17 mile loop anymore, just head east and south from the lodge and back again. Photos at http://s1261.photobucket.com/albums/ii584/scannon929/Pebble%20Beach%20Tour%20de%20Elegance/ We were allowed to wander down the starting grid where the cars were lined up three abreast with motors running awaiting each group's starting time. The owners were friendly and willing to talk about their cars. I stood between the lines of cars as they drove off. The sounds were great and the unburned hydrocarbons just about did me in.
  12. 8mm x 20mm length, 1.25 pitch with a button head is what comes with the Brooklands kit. I think that is the same diameter and pitch as a Caterham without the quick change bracket. That configuration just uses a fender washer and a nut.
  13. I used motorcycle mirrors which have a 10mm thread on them. I bored out the nutplates and rethreaded them to 10mm. The mirror stems take the place of the rear most bolt holding the mounting bracket to the cowl. I had to source new bolts for the front of the mounting bracket in 10mm as well as I wanted all four to be the same thread. To change back to a windscreen I just loosen the lock nut on the mirror stem and wind the mirror out, remove the other two bolts and its off. I can either use the mirrors with the windscreen or add two more bolts. Shown here with the windscreen in place. http://usa7s.com/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=2922&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1301722917 BTW, with these mirrors, the windscreen and wind wings, the buffeting was reduced from that of the windscreen and wind wings alone.
  14. Tom, How about sharing the solution with all of us?
  15. That will be decided after I get to drive the Miata, eventually.
  16. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I find far less buffeting with the Brooklands screens than the windscreen even with the wind wings attached. There is even less buffeting with the passenger side folded flat. Are you comparing it to your car with the windshield with side curtains in place? Mine gets very calm in that configuration but with the rear exit exhaust it sucks a lot of fumes in the cabin. You can still ride in my car but I might not let you drive it again.
  17. Caterham USA happened to have them in stock when I bought mine. IIRC they were about $10 each. Probably the cheapest Caterham part I've ever purchased. The holes in the nut plate that go over the existing studs are slotted so you can align the nut plates with the holes in the cowl.
  18. Here's what the quick change brackets look like installed on the car. The panels on my car were attached using the screws you can see along the frame rail. I've never bothered to put the black cover plates back on the car.
  19. Do it, you won't regret it.
  20. I'm sure you could find a competent tech to mount it for you. If you are planning on being able to quickly change back and forth between the Brooklands and the regular windscreen get a pair of brackets from Caterham that have nut plates welded on so you don't have to get behind the body skin to get a wrench on the nuts. It also makes the windscreen and Brooklands more stable. I use wraparound safety glasses most of the time but especially when there are lots of bugs around and goggles along with a leather flying helmet and leather motorcycle face mask when it is cold out. I find that when I don't have a passenger along, putting the pass side screen down horizontal greatly reduces wind buffeting.
  21. I got mine from Caterham USA a few years back. You still have to drill the holes for the Brooklands mounts and in my case I had to section in 4" in the middle as they only made the mount for the S3 size Caterhams. I have heard that they or someone is making an SV size mount now.
  22. This may make your heart ache. http://www.utsandiego.com/photos/galleries/2012/aug/02/chopped-2005-ford-gt/#/21 An appropriate punishment for the perps would be their balls in a vise that closes one turn per hour followed by the slow death of 1,000 cuts. Click through the pictures of the other stolen items to get to the Ford GT
  23. If you buy a new Caterham kit from Caterham USA and want them to assemble it they will give you a part number to take to your Ford dealer to order an engine with most of the parts removed that you won't need. Those you do need that replace them come as part of the kit. You can also buy a Cosworth built engine or supply your own engine from a donor car. The kit ruling exempts them from DOT safety items like crash testing, air bags, 5 mph bumpers and the like. State rules vary. In Colorado a kit car is also exempt from emissions testing. Its the only way to get one into the USA. The car is partially assembled but not a roller. I can't speak to the original Lotus 7s in the USA but they had always been sold in the UK both as kits and completed cars. Same for Caterhams.
