  1. Edumacate me.... the "English" axle is not the Escort, right? Definitely not the Morris Ital/Marina. What street cars got English axles? Is it the same as an Atlas axle?
  2. Thanks Bruce. I hadn't seen this.
  3. At the bottom, the cable anchor. I didn't install it, the shop that built up the car did. its not in the picture anymore because it worked loose and i cut it off recently since im removing everything soon. But I would definitely have it, or something to retain the cable. Another thing the shop did was zip tie the sparkplug boots to the distributor.
  4. don't forget to zip tie or safety wire that cable to its fixing, and the cable sleeve to the collet.
  5. Mines is mounted to the inboard screws, pointing inwards. There appear to be differences in bracket construction.. the collett may be either inside or out. position the collet so its centered.
  6. I know, it never left. But, in my opinion, the Seven rag was stuck in the grot trap after the L7C shake up, fall out and reorganizing. However, if you are able to read the March issue, don't miss it! LF is back in force with some amazing articles and photos in the March issue. "fallout"...did anyone catch that?
  7. On the Matt Lewis site, and possibly elsewhere, is a line of differentials, the BlackLine, which appear to be very similar to the QUAIFE torque biasing diffs. These run a few hundred cheaper than the Quaifes. Does anyone have experience with these? https://www.mattlewisracing.co.uk/product.php/2860/0/limited_slip_differential__triumph_herald_spitfire_tr7 https://vi.raptor.ebaydesc.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemDescV4&item=233036752837&category=180406&pm=1&ds=0&t=1633017026000&ver=0&cspheader=1 The Quaife: https://shop.quaife.co.uk/shop/differentials/quaife-atb-differentials/qdf8k/ I am tempted to "uprate" my Ital axle with a Backline HLF080. I don't have any plans to track so Im wondering if the tradeoffs are reasonable?
  8. Has anyone found an adhesive backed vinyl covering, in red, to lay over the black Caterham instrument panel? I suppose I could order a Prisoner spare, or buy a second hand. That is a detail for later after we get running.
  9. Don't tighten fiberglass too much, or make the fastener holes too tight. GRP needs to float. When drilling new holes on GRP, finish edges with slight bevels on both sides. But spider cracks will happen all kinds of ways. Just accept that you (like I am now) that a paint job may be in the footure.
  10. I Love clams too but for sport, its better to see where the front wheel is tracking. I have also heard of the clam tips being forced down. I can't verify that. The Clams give the car that familiar MG TC look that complements the short boot as Lotus marketed the S2 as more of a road car, which carried over to the S4. This continued with Caterham well into the 80s until Cat introduced the cycles in fiberglass. I can't think of any Lotus 7 S2 or 3 that had factory cycle wings. Once Lotus was done banging out alloy noses and fenders of the 6 and S1 Seven, that was it. GRP was cheaper to make, required less skill set and didn't need painting. Also, as these parts tend to get damaged easily, GRP makes a lot more sense.
  11. Pegasus gets more of my $$$
  12. I don't think these X Flows can run anyway but rich. I tried dialing in my idle to run leaner but all i got was popping. I think it helps to remember these are pre-emission engines on short pipes. They've gonna spit gas, smoke, etc. They're dirty. If not, they're probably running too lean. my 2¥
  13. who can compare 7s to "cars"? more like airplanes for the road. I agree that the EV option is viable and the 7 is an adaptable platform. I would only agree with having the batteries in the engine area, not in the rear. one for safety, two for the space required. I suspect a motor and direct drive axle could be fitted in the basket. I think my Xflow days are numbered...
  14. Gates PowerGrip SB heat shrink clamp looks promising
  15. Yes, I am open to finding the proper clamp, particularly one with expansion properties. The Samco supplies stainless worm gear type clamps. I have heard of rolled/raised edge hose clamps but none are constant tension. One of the reasons hoses get cut is from the sharp edges on clamps that do not expand. Then when the hose is dried out from repeated compression, they leak. I hope the silicone Samco hose is more resilient. I can put a radius on a square clamp edge if I have enough material.
  16. you will only be putting out 3 psi... Our favorite coffee Mahallo!
  17. you will only be putting out 3 psi...
  18. Hi, has anyone found a source for spring type radiator hose clamps that are shiny like cadmium? I will be using Samco hose. Also looking for the same type clamps for fuel hose, they're easier to find.
  19. That thing is really pretty. It would be a shame to hide it down there!
  20. long or short cockpit?
  21. So you're saying to remove the BH, stab in the shaft holding the clutch and cover, and assemble whilst checking the spacing between the block face and transmission face? This is brilliant!
  22. Chuck, did those wheels come off a 7 with Escort (Ford) or Marina/Ital (Morris/Triumph) live axle or a DeDion (Ford)?
  23. I think if you got them on a flat level surface, have the shaft axis alignment, a bubble level on the T9 cover, and rocker cover, you should be able to slide them together. if not, re-align the clutch disc again.
