Hamish, It will most likely need be a bespoke, custom fabrication. There are several header manufacturers to choose from that do excellent work, but they would probably need the car to fit. I would contact Ken at Dave Bean Engineering. He doesn't manufacture exhausts, but he supplies parts to the Formula Ford and Lotus community. He may have some ideas. ken@davebean.com. Tel: (209)754-5802 They are having problems with the web site host today.

I can't make this stuff up https://www.thedrive.com/news/44570/why-some-people-think-lotus-founder-colin-chapman-faked-his-death "some conspiracy theorists have alleged that instead, Chapman faked his own death and fled to South America to escape a potential prison sentence tied to his involvement with the scandal that brought down the DeLorean Motor Company."

An interesting, well written read of Rotus, and seven insanity in general. "Most nights, when all the Corollas have been put to bed, Custer can be found in his Rotus shop, welding tubular frames for another slightly mad customer who will surely undergo some kind of rebirth the first time he crams himself behind the wheel, peers out over the long, low hood, cranks the engine, hears the impudent blat of the exhaust and finally tromps on the throttle. " https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/magazine/1987/11/08/what-a-sports-car-is-supposed-to-be/3fc3bf14-cbe5-4f56-a120-188d1dd165eb/ Reading about Rotus in Ortenburger's book, LotusSeven & The Independents p137, The origin of the name "Rotus" doesn't come from the rotary engined sevens he built, but rather from the way Mr. Hasagawa, director, Toyota competition department, pronounced "Lotus" in his engrish.

Thanks. Ive been able to reach him on FB in the past. He may get so much Email that its better to go to the social networks to get contact with the serious 7 heads.

I only intended to infer that my amateur attempts at fiberglass would amount to a sub-par result. I watched my father lay up fiberglass to make wings and tail sections for an aircraft at home. he was very good at it but I remember the epoxy, the smell, fibers the mess and the commitment it takes to the process. If I ever got involved in making fiberglass parts, it would have to be for the manufacturing of parts. To duplicate one item, I am better off taking it to a professional who is set up for the work. I also learned much about Fiberglass during my dune buggy phase. I don't have space or place for a fiberglass project at home now. @Christopher smith My apologies, I was referring to Chris at RedLine. @MV8 your input on this forum is always spot on and you're a guru for sure. Thanks for your help here.

Thats fantastic if only Chris will read my emails!

That's a lot of work when DCOEs and K&Ns are working. No, I won't be doing any hack jobs. I will only work with the genuine article or a reasonable equivalent. One of the complications is that due to the curvature of the bonnet, the right side of the scoop is deeper than the left. That's not something I will find in a generic accessory scoop. Only perfection, no substitutes. I still need to contact Arch about a bonnet and ask them about a scoop.

Not many exhaust options in a seven, especially LHD

With a loaner I would take it to a glass man to cast a mold. we have a few in the Houston/ Galveston area. If 3D print is the better option, I'll try that too. Then have several paintable made, sell them. I doubt Cat would object. Yes, yellow for my car.

Help with hesitation at high RPMs - fuel starve?
IamScotticus replied to KnifeySpoony's topic in General Tech
I realize the OP is FI, but... Last time my X flow ran, I had a cut-off problem on short& quick right handers, not necessarily too fast, but over 20mph. I am on 40s with Facet diaphragm pump, no regulation. Standard Cat tank, no bag or foam. I never resolved the issue before the car got put away. Since then, I have learned for the refresh, I need to verify my floats and needle valves, as well as pressure. I will be going back to mechanical pump. Im the one who put the Facet on and I don't remember having the problem with the mechanical pump. Formula Ford uses it successfully... I might keep an electric on for a primer. -
Yep. The RB has a cylinder "peg" that slots into the shock tower. Your stampings indicate a 2005 jig # J2 and serial #.
-
the shock tower mounts are different. It would be a help to put up a pic of your mounts so you don't get sent the wrong thing. Here are pics of a '96 Live axle mount. The white foam sheet is a template of the FIA roll bar base.

need to specify liive axle or DeDion

The up swept front edges mimic the rear wing fronts, and add a few points for style. I would have the rear square for coverage/flaps. The 7 is always a brick. I would worry less about turbulence and do more to keep the parts from flying off.

GIRLING 74660152 90s Cat MC replacement ideas
IamScotticus replied to IamScotticus's topic in General Tech
are you saying that on MCs used with vaccuum assist may not have enough depth for the piston rod to keep it from falling upon release? As in a very short stroke system? -
GIRLING 74660152 90s Cat MC replacement ideas
IamScotticus replied to IamScotticus's topic in General Tech
Yes, that is the item. Ken is awesome. -
I have this 26 yo (Girling?) MC that should probably be replaced for safety reasons. I don't know if its serviceable, but even so, this model so obscure the only thing i can find for parts reference are notes that this is a Caterham and Morgan exclusive by Girling. Cat not offering any support for it. I might be able to find a kit from Morgan. But why, really? In its best form its still a 50/50 on a disc/drum car (capacity imbalance). Shall I put on something more supported and better balanced? Not tracking. Street only.

I don't understand why you haven't upgraded calipers/rotors??? Very clean project, btw. Do you have a build thread?
-
Do a leak down test. test voltage after sitting two days off charger. Don't test it in between days, you'll want to mess with it. Let it draw down. I have a suspicion you probably fixed the issue with some connections you tightened.

7s are an absolute blast for the first 15 minutes. But we love em and keep going back for more punishment. One thing I noticed was how the (full screen) buffeting would abuse my scalp. I felt like what hair I had left was being ripped out. I resorted to welders bandannas They have sweat bands and a long tail offering some neck protection. Not thin material so they offer wind deflection and they are good helmet liners too. Ear protection, definitely. I had bought everything for an Autocom headset pair but didn't get around to installing it before my accident. There are better wireless options now. Having read about windshield breaking, I don't know for sure what a Cat screen will do. Will it crack and stay intact, or shatter like tempered glass? Either way, its better to have a plan for the event you need to punch out the remainder of a windscreen at speed. Which means shards of glass in your face and eyes. My plan for this is a helmet, of sorts, that checks all the boxes, but isn't a bulbous motorcycle bucket either. More comfy than safe, which makes no sense, but this car makes no sense. A slim 3/4 open face with half shield (for spectacles), 60s retro before safety was a thing. Currently Im thinking I may not find this for any motor sporting use as what I want couldn't possibly meet DOT. Think water sports or skydiving like Cookie M3, but with a half shield.

I know it makes no sense to step down from side draughts to a downdraft, especially with an A2 cam and is driving well on 37mm chokes. For my car, I'm not shooting for Hi-Po here, just a fun weekender show car that makes everyone pull out their cell phones for some reason. All things 60's check my kitsch itch boxes so I've always loved the S3 hood scoop. Something about it is just the right finishing touch on an already over the top road toy. As I think more about the Downdraft carb, the more I think its not such a bad compromise. There's plenty of support with the FF gang, as they're stuck with it. Its simple, fewer jets, less fiddling, no synchronizing, and automatic choking is available, if and when it works. Is a Webber DGV worth the bonnet bulge nostalgia? Looking for a bonnet scoop! Got to find one first. the rest is easy.

I would yank that blower and tractor battery, simplify and add lightness.
