I know the feeling

yes, darn fugly. I assume they couldn't do anything that had already been done so it was the compromise.

among the ROC tools that circulate through the Harbor Freights and other cheap tool stores, there is a particular floor jack I just love using for the 7 because the proportions are just right. I believe it's this one available again at HF It is a beast. it's heavy. but worth it. especially at this price. the low height helps get a piece of wood between the jack and the car.

the problem...Caterham has a set of figures a EV7 must meet or they can't sell it. That's what the bean counters tell the ex-auto industry executives who believe them because they don't gamble. Cat could make a fun, although low Milage, 7 now. no, it won't be the race car they sell to the software engineers. but it will go like stink. they don't think they can sell that. no, they can't for £45k, but possibly for £30k, and the aftermarket will offer up the improvements. look what happened to bicycles! they all have motors and batteries now.

This should change eventualy. EV tech is moving very quickly in Asian and Europe. This progress isnt available in the USA as its being blocked by trade restrictions. And for good reason. ***Thread hack alert***! The first viable sub-$20K EV to be available here will kill off everything else (hyperbole). Of course, some people will still buy Audis, SAABs and Mercedes yuppie wagons, for some reason. But the vast majority will go for affordable basic transportation, again. And I believe this is Paul Elio's failure, he tried to build an ICE vehicle from the start. He didn't start exploring the EV option till he was out of money.

I think going forward, any new viable fun kit car that is streetable should be an electric vehicle. Oh, the horror! Heres your problem with the 7, and other 7-like kits.. the newer generation isn't into vintage. They don't want anything difficult to understand, sort through, greasy or smelly. They want to push a button, go fast and and upload the video on Instagram. They want something easy to title and register. The problem with 7s, and the problem Caterham has, is the pool of suitable engine and driveline options is running out. Its almost not worth the effort to start a ICE project from a clean sheet anymore because your planned powerplant and driveline wont be available, or even legal, in ten years. If you were to do a Kit car today, the best option for spares is a mid-engine. I know, its hard to make a mid engine attractive. Thats why I say electric; there are more options for moving the components around to suit the shape of the car. The majority of the bulk being the batteries (for now) can go up front and the motor/s can go in rear. or front+rear. More options with EV parts. And they will be hitting the scrap yards soon.

Well, the Sven was never a "Mark #". If anything, it was created from the rib of the Mk11 following the Ed Lewis Special inspiration. If Chapman had been working on a Mk VII, it was probably scrapped and saved for a later designation out of sequence. One thing is obvious, there is a lot of unnecessary dramatic verbiage. Thats writing IA is really good at.

Created 5, June 2026, by Halil Lehmann, sold on Amazon. Part of an 11 book series. I suppose that if someone were to commit to an Amazon publishing series of eleven paperbacks on the most intriguing machines, that for Caterham to be selected among Jaguar, Mini Cooper, the V-Twin, McLaren, farm tractors (and especially farm tractors) etc, it is a complement to Caterham. Legends of The Machine series book #10 (missed opportunity), THE CATERHAM STORY : The Untold History of a British Automotive Icon by Halil Lehman appears to be only available on Amazon, 93 pages in paperback and a 6x9 inch format. Hmmmm...The juicy untold story...I cant wait to curl up with this one. AI dribble? Who knows. But I appreciate the effort.

there must be easier options. JB weld? Friction fit plug? a plug with a bar under the top? I don't know if you have clearance for that. have you touched that nut on the freeze plug with a wrench to see if it's magnetic? I suspect it's one of those oil drain pan plugs wirh a nut holding it on the other side. that or some water temperature sensor, which makes more sense, but I don't see a spade.

Yes. check burton for a blanking solution for dry sump application. Is that a magnet on the freeze plug?

I should have been clearer. The speedo can be driven by electronic signal from a GPS unit or a magnet pickup attached to a rotating surface like a drive shaft. These alternatives are more serviceable than a cable drive. -

Really nice color choice. I approve of the rollover bar matching paint. I usually prefer the RB to be the chassis color, but in your case, it works very well. Take note of the protection around the bonnet spring! consider applying a layer of protective plastic film behind it to prevent scratches. Heck, just PPF the whole car! -
Do you have a Lotus SB#? Arch made S3 chassis for Lotus late in production, didn't they? When did those start? Fortunate for you, you can MIG/TIG weld on a Uni-rad frame without worrying about any nickel bronze joint welds. Please start a project thread in the build forum with lots of pics! The "general" section is a black hole of everything. https://usa7s.net/ips/forum/41-build-threads/

is this possible?

Lovely to see new frame colours as an option. I hope the builder can sign the car somewhere.
