  1. BTW, what is the weight limit for trailer-towing with your Nissan Frontier?
  2. Rule of thumb on hitch weight: Park your truck and loaded trailer. Use your tongue jack to lift the trailer off the ball. Measure from a repeatable location on the truck bumper or hitch to the pavement. Lower the trailer to the hitch. Roll your car back and forth on the trailer until you measure a 1" drop from the no-trailer level. I use a friction gizmo to prevent sway. It does not affect the hitch height. If you are going to use a leveling hitch, use one of the bar types that puts anti-sway friction into the mix. Don't use a chain type that does nothing to prevent sway.
  3. The buyer of my 1700 did not put the engine in a Birkin. That engine/5-speed is bound for a Lotus 7. Whether the mounts I supplied with the engine/5-speed will fit the Lotus without a lot of work has yet to be known to me. I am absolutely certain they will not fit a Birkin. Birkin uses one horizontal bolt at the chassis, which seems a bit unusual to me.
  4. Still have not again located the mounts. They must be around here someplace... Again, these mounts, for when I find them again, are for an early Zetec 2000cc in a Birkin.
  5. It's raining pitchforks and hammerhandles just now. I'll atempt to get out there today.
  6. I'm starting to lose track. I think I have the mounts. All Zetec motors are not the same. The motor that was held by these mounts in the Birkin came out of a 1995 Ford Contour.
  7. My guess is Stamford, Connecticut.
  8. I'm already booked. Circumstances will dictate whether I have the Caterham or the Birkin in the trailer, but I'm planning in being there. I had to miss the last go-round in Utah for non-car reasons. It won't be a homecoming for the Elise I bought in Park City, since it has expired while under new ownership.
  9. I have a crossbrace on my roll bar that was described as an FIA/ The salesman in the video needs someone to teach him how to put a harness on. That buckle is WAY too high.
  10. I really like the color combo on your car. I always prefer the tan seats to the black. RIght now I have three sports cars with black seats and I am not thrilled about it.
  11. Miata? Most sevens don't have a billion horsepower. There are tons of Miata cars and many Miata specialists.

  13. Zetec. (to assist folks searching for Zetec stuff)
  14. On the assumption that you are addressing me: On the Europa, the upper ends of the two rear coilover units are bolted to lightweight metal piece which is open on the bottom. This piece runs transversely over the top of the 16-gauge chassis frame. There are two vertical tabs on this piece that fit on the outside vertical portions of the frame. No part of the piece wraps around the bottom of the frame. On each side there are two 5/16" bolts that secure the tab to the frame. More than half of the sprung weight of the car hangs on these four bolts. Shock (damper) bolts on a Europa are 1/2". The area of one of these damper bolts is about 0.196 square inches. The total area of TWO 5/16" bolts is about .0.153 square inches. Even before you consider clamping force, the little bolts that hold that piece to the frame are clearly the weak link in this chain.
  15. On a Lotus Europa, virtually the entire weight of the rear of the car hangs on four 5/16" bolts (two on each side of the car) in single-shear.
  16. I'm not, but I certainly recommended them to a young man autocrossing a Honda Beat here in the Twin Cities. I am running 195 Yokos on 15" Prisoner wheels on my Caterham. I have clam fenders on both my Caterham and my Birkin. The Birkin has 15x7 wheels and a friend of mine who is a National Champion autocrosser has given me four used Yoko 205mm tires that I intend to put on the Birkin.
  17. I believe one of our members in sort of your place in the world has a surplus set of Prisoner wheels, which are 6.5 x 15. He offered them to me, but I already have a set of Prisoner wheels. Or, you could try a set of 14" Yokohama 052 tires which will outstick those Falkens regardless of size.
  18. I wear pants and trousers. And a long-sleeve shirt. I got my melanin (well, lack thereof) from my Irish mother.
  19. My 5'8" comes with size 10 or 10.5 feet. I need driving shoes for my Caterham. I don't think I have tried yet to drive the Birkin with other shoes. After the last autocross, the Birkin went into my shop without a lot of driving.
  20. Makes sense to me.
  21. Now it's cold again and there is new snow on the ground. The theatre of seasons.
  22. It's raining. Hard. In the middle of the night. In the middle of February. In Saint Paul, Minnesota.
  23. I believe the SV also has room for a supercharger.
