  1. One out of two ain't bad. My 1979 had no mounting bracket, nor a hole where one had been. The tire rested on the carrier and the top of the wheel/tire was strapped to to the car body with a belt, as you see in my previous post. My 1991 has a bracket that that is fastened to a threaded hole in a horizontal tube in the boot. The bracket is Y-shaped with two studs which accept nuts like those used on the road wheels.
  2. Interesting. Your carrier apparently came from the factory with with a carrier set up for a Canada/USA license plate. My 1700 Super Sprint is an English car (lived most of its life in Northwich) so the number-plate plinth is a different shape. Dunno when Caterham started having two setups for these license plates. As far as I knew, my 1979 was always a USA car, and it had the English plinth. I bought the car in Wisconsin. Here it is ready to go on the transporter to Cape Cod. There are only two holes in the plinth, and they are correct for a Canada/USA plate.
  3. The nose is also Caterham Firecracker Yellow. What I consider the "spare wheel carrier" is easy to spot. The license plate is attached to it. All the same paint. And no, I don't really see the "blue" in Ford Moonstone Blue either. Not in this light or any other.

  5. In Ford Moonstone Blue to match the body, just the way it came to me.
  6. Mine is Ford Moonstone Blue. Hope that's OK.
  7. I already own a Zetec and expect to get it in the car this season. At this point, 35 pounds is not enough of a weight saving to source a new engine.
  8. We are discussing English cars on a site called "USA". I think either is correct. "It's all 4/4 to Milcho" - Don Ellis
  9. So surprised that they shipped it with the hood erected. I figured it would come folded up in a plastic bag (or in the duffel if one had been ordered).
  10. Have you driven the Shenandoah Circuit?
  11. I'd take the Caterham logo off the grill
  12. I am on my 4th mid-engine car and on my second Caterham. For car placement in the Seven, forget about the front wheels. You are sitting between the rear wheels, which are further apart. Concentrate on where those wheels are going. You will feel developing oversteer sooner and more-clearly in the Seven than in your mid-engine cars. If you find an autocrossing club that has practice days, sign up. I suggest that you attach a pylon-redirecting device to your seat bolts. I had no trouble with pylon damage to my first Caterham, but did destroy a rear fender on my second Caterham.
  13. I live in Minnesota and am seriously considering taking out my heater. Never had one on my previous 1979 Caterham.
  14. I wasn't actually trying to lie. It was an honest typo. I am 5'8" and 155 pounds. BTW, I saw a rear-window-zipper mod in Lowflying. Looks really interesting. The author took the top to Caterham and they sent it out to their supplier. The author is trying to convince Caterham to have them all made this way. Well, I don't live in England, and I'm not shipping this top both ways. I have a veteran upholstery guy here in Saint Paul on the job. He should be able to source the extra pull and do the mod. I see exactly what needs to be done, don't have the wherewithal to do it myself. I will try to remember to take photos and post them here when the job is done.
  15. Thanks. One of the "gifts" that came with my ADD is the ability to actively search for an object, look directly at it, and not see it. I would have sworn that there was no such icon present, but there it is.
  16. I believe this is just the sort of thing that would have been done. I suggest you measure up to see which setup was used. If everything fits with the engine in the rearward position, I see no reason to not do it. That said, my 1991 car with the engine far-enough-forward to stick under the nose does have more than 50% of the weight on the rear wheels. This is without driver and without the spare tire and bolt-on bracket.
  17. No sound.
  19. And I think it is funny that after many decades, the name of the SCCA Region in Minnesota and some parts beyond has a whole new meaning due to social media.
  20. Yeah, I see the oversteer. Not as real surprise that this car is basically laid out like the "roadsters" that ruled Indianapolis for decades. I recall that as the mid-engine cars (that the roadster drivers insisted on calling "rear engine") took over the roadster drivers didn't like them because they could not feel the oversteer as clearly. As much as I love mid-engine cars (I'm on my fourth), I think the Seven will be good for me in autocrossing as my balance, never very-good, seems to be getting worse in my dotage.
  21. I believe that was my method to mount a 5-panel Wink mirror in my Lotus Europa. When I arrived at something that worked with two pieces of cereal-box cardboard, I traced these pieces onto aluminum sheet. Worked a treat for years. I used the corrugated stuff for the design of the pylon-redirector on my Seven, then brought that pattern to the Metal Supermarkets in Roseville MN to shear me a piece of 1/4" aluminum. I plan on lightening holes when I get around to it.
