  1. Lotus does this too. When you are milking the same design for years, you have to constantly come up with new reasons to make press releases in order to get your product into the news
  2. I was spearing small animals with the mounts, I removed them at the request of PETA :willy: I don't run a front plate

  8. I had made a T-shirt that has the Lucas logo on the front and on the back it says "I am not afraid of the Dark"
  9. No need for the welcome, I've been a card carrying member for the past ten years, I have a 67 Lotus Elan too Actually, I think this was a sympathetic breakdown as I park the Seven very close to the Elan lol Surprisingly, I did not get mad about it at all, actually enjoyed working on it, but I was a bit disappointed as it was like opening your presents on xmas morning only to discover the batteries were not included I think we got it sorted out tonight :hurray:
  10. OK, so here is the Saga.... Al had told me that the battery was likely going to need replacing soon, that it would take and hold a charge if using the car with some frequency, but if it sat for a week it would need to be jumped. Sure enough the car needed to be jumped when it got off the truck, no big deal. Shortly after posting the pictures in this thread on Thursday, I checked the usual suspects on the car (tires, oil, coolant etc), the car started right up and I set off on my first drive (with jumper box just in case). Took the Freeway to my wife's office to show it off to her, and the car started right up there too. The plan was to take the Pacific Coast Highway and then go up to the twisty roads in Malibu. As soon as I got onto the PCH (about 12 miles from home), the charging light in the tach came on, so I pulled into a gas station and shut the car down and tried to restart in hopes it just needed a "reset". Battery was dead. I jumped it and decided to turn around and head home but I only made it about a mile when the car started sputtering and came to a stop on the side of the road. Could restart it using the jumper box, but as soon as I removed it, the car stalled. A call to Al put out the SOS and I got return calls from the Local guys here and it was determined that I was SOL for the moment. Hagerty road side assistance to the rescue. So I spent more time riding in the tow truck than in the car. Only in Los Angeles - the tow truck operators had just came from towing a Maserati MC12 that blew its clutch with only 250 miles on the clock. They thought the Seven was cooler and asked if they could take their pictures with it LOL Magnus Feuer came over that night to have a look and we determined that the Alternator gave up the ghost Spent the whole day Friday trying to find a replacement alternator. Finally found a parts store that had it in stock only to discover that the Bosch replacement alternator had a design change to the axle and it no longer accepts the pulley that is on the car. Doug Lieblad had a spare alternator, so went and picked it up and put it on, thought car was fixed. Saturday morning at 5:45 am I went to go down to the famous Cars and Coffee meet here, got on the freeway and the charge light starts flickering. Afraid that the car was going to stall, I got off the freeway. At first I thought maybe I got the tension wrong on the belt so I messed with different tensions to no avail. I was pretty close to Magnus's house, so I drove it over there and parked in front of his house. It was too early to knock on his door so I waited for a more reasonable hour. A little after 7, I see Magnus stumble out of his house in his PJ's to get his newspaper, SURPRISE!! LOL We spent the morning checking things and it seemed that the "new" alternator was overcharging. With the overcharging unit in the car, it was determined that it was sort of safe for short drives, so I was able to take drive it home and it ran fine. Sunday night I decided to take my wife for a short drive around the block a few times. Next morning I went to take the "new" alternator out and found a big puddle of oil under the car :banghead: I had not noticed that the original alternator had the mounting ears ground to clear the oil filter, it fit on fine but apparently managed to push the oil filter loose, ugh! Good thing I only went for a short drive. So today I had the original alternator rebuilt (really fantastic little hole in the wall shop), which apparently was completely fried, and all this it seems is because of that damn POS Banning Battery LOL And absolutely fantastic support from the local Seveners here, Magnus, Doug and Brad have been a lot of help, both mechanically and morally After writing this I plan to change the oil and put in the newly rebuilt alternator and the new Odyssey battery and hopefully all will be well in the world The end

  12. Mrs. MoPho doesn't know how to drive a manual, so there is no worries there Other than being a bit more "intense" than the Elan, it was not far off from what was expected, main problem is after we pulled out of the driveway she tells me she forgot glasses and to tie up her hair :banghead: Will try again
  13. That was what I was thinking too and may not go because of that. I can't believe they picked that location and date. The last one was held in Big Sur during May. The first two days of the event were beautiful and the event fantastic, but it poured rain for the last day, my wife and I had to drive home in the Elan for 6 hours in the rain, no top or side windows (very Sevenlike) it sucked!
  14. :banghead: I was sort of planning on going to the West Coast Lotus Meet in Oregon this year Might want to combine, Sevens are welcome and it is already organized here is the website http://www.gglotus.org/2008wclm/index.htm
  15. Afterwards she asked me how much my life insurance policy is for and then told me she would have to charge me money if I want her to come along for rides. Do you think this means she likes it? http://www.websmileys.com/sm/sad/533.gif
  16. That was a bit of a tank slapper
  17. I can neither confirm nor deny it
  18. Sorry, the car broke down on the way there, never made it. http://www.websmileys.com/sm/mad/109.gif I am in Culver City, your welcome to stop by, it's sort of fixed
  19. OK, still planning on going to Cars and Coffee (assuming I don't sleep through the alarm, ugh) The car is the little bug eyed orange one with a "7" in the grill
  20. Addendum about the wind, it was the half doors that made the difference. Took them off and went for a little blat around town and even at low speeds I could tell the difference
  21. Not an Alfa, it is a 92 Lexus ES250 that belongs to my neighbor, it is like brand new.
  22. If we do that, there would be room for one more car http://www.websmileys.com/sm/evil/teu55.gif - Had to cut the drive short, so only got to do a bit of a highway drive to my wife's office (where a crowd formed around the car), but I enjoyed it a lot. - Acceleration was crazy, I have driven cars that are probably quicker on paper (Nissan GT-R, 599 for example), but this ranks up there, and the whole experience is far more exciting than the GT-R that is for sure. - Wind was not nearly as bad as I expected. I actually liked the wind in my [lack] of hair feeling. With Oakley glasses it was no problem on the eyes. Even had the car close to 100mph at which point it was sort of getting bad. I guess after hearing people complaining, I expected worse. I am relieved about this. http://www.websmileys.com/sm/sad/533.gif Certainly would not want to do a long freeway drive like that though, so sidescreens are on order. -Car is louder than I expected, in a good way, love the transmission noise (yes I am crazy) -Didn't get the chance to do any twisty roads, so I will have to comment on that later. -Car gets a lot of attention on the road, even in LA where people are jaded to exotic cars
  23. Well, the car made it safe and sound, and is everything that I expected and more. Thanks Al!!!!111! It has been renamed by my elderly neighbor though, car will now be known as "Mr Orange" to you! http://www.websmileys.com/sm/happy/125.gif Her jaw literally dropped when she saw the car lol Two peas in a pod http://www.mjswebgallery.com/delivery/5.JPG http://www.mjswebgallery.com/delivery/2.JPG http://www.mjswebgallery.com/delivery/3.JPG http://www.mjswebgallery.com/delivery/4.JPG http://www.mjswebgallery.com/delivery/1.JPG Going for a ride now!
  24. I am planning to be at Cars and Coffee this Saturday if all goes as planned, I can certainly give you a ride.
  25. $32,000 but you get the car for free
