I know regular carb cleaner can harm oxy sensors and plastics....what is/are you using to clean the rollers... I see 'Throttle Body Cleaners' and assume they are good to go but you know assumptions.

Toyo replacement for Avons 185/60 13 vs 185/55 13
Reiver replied to Reiver's topic in Wheels and Tires
I looked at bending the struts but the one on the left side would have been too off center on the tire....I'm going to stick with 6mm spacers (concentric quality ones) as there is more than 1/2 inch of threads. If I were tracking I'd try something else. -
Not many I suspect..... I have two nose cones, the yellow one and this so decided to do something different..... the 98 HPC is a very fun 7. I go back/forth with the noses. They are little hot rods so......

Had some issues with low rpm surge and chatted with some here and found the TPS was at 5.23V....went to the proper 4.62 and like a different 7...very sensitive she is. Runs like a scalded cat.... what a nice set up. The RTB's have been a learning curve without instructions but I think I get them now.
-
Yeah, that'd work.... so you just mounted what existed or there was an addition?
-
Put the windshield and doors on today...rather easy as the prior owner had put the shield backing plates in place so simply unscrew/dismount the short screen and slap on the other. I didn't attach the windscreen heater...no need in Az. The full top will never go on. I do not have the wiper arms but the mechanism is under the scuttle. I'll just go with rain x as again...I've never had to use the wipers on the other 7. I've a full set of the smaller / nicer mirrors but want to mount them on the windscreen not the doors as in the summer the doors often come off. Suggestions for the mounts. You can see the mirrors in the other pic.

They are in place and 'working' but it took some fettling to get clearance on the cycle fender supports.... not much one can do given how the struts are welded. I will have to run spacers and have 1/4 in on now but think 1/8th may work as I have some coming. On one side I used a grinder to flatten some welds etc... but the spacers are the way to go for the road.... I'll let you know how the 1/8th one's work but each car is a tad different I suspect as each of my strut assemblies are not exactly the same spec. One welded closer to the outside one closer to the inside and the one to the outside literally locked the tire in place...firmly. It will take a few more examples before a trend is noted.... could be my r400 alone...who knows.

When I mounted the Toyo's the other day they rubbed on the driver side cycle fender struts a great deal and just a tad on the other side. Never any interference with the Avons it came with. 2012 r400 The Toyo's have a rounder side wall...I have 1/4 in spacers on now but 1/8th coming and I believe they will work. Very tight. the driver side struts were welded slightly closer than the off side. They are on and spinning. It has not been in a wreck etc.... just a tad different side to side as to spacing. Anyone else have this issue with the cycle fenders? Nice addition to ride height for the road...3 1/4 in. under the tranny guard (dry sump) ...that's a plus and have not messed with the adjustable shocks as yet.
-
Is anything really easy... I replaced the very old Avons with the Toyo's today.... 60 aspect over the 55, no problem a bit higher is good for the road but the Toyo's are also wider thru the mid section and rub on the cycle fender supports...one side greatly. So, off with the fenders and adjusting arms.... just about done but quit for the evening. Sometimes it is better to take a break and readdress later.... took me 74 years to figure that out.

Thanks.... same car but different personalities...sometimes you just want to hang with a friend and relax (HPC) and sometimes you want your hair on fire....

I have a standard floor S3 too...and I find that just right. I'd rather have that but the r400 came with the lowers. It is really not that big a deal unless you had the Carbons I suspect.
-
Yes I can. Actually glad the car came with those rather than the carbon.... street only for me.
-
This S3 has the lowered floor, perhaps that is it. At 70/75 it was rather calm. I'm only 5'9 too so that could explain it. I have a helmet coming with a face mask and I totally get the rock issue...Az is known for that. I was just anxious for a drive. The windshield will eventually go on tho...

Got my tags today so went out on Hwy 93 (we live right off of that road) for my first other than scooting down our street. It's a Caterham for sure but a similar but different feel than the HPC. You do note the HP and the quick manner it comes on yet seems totally manageable/comfortable and great fun. The Avons are old but stuck nicely around the round abouts. The Toyo's go on tomorrow. I found that the short windscreen really works well, at 75 mph there was dead air in front of my mug. I swear it seemed no different than running a windshield and I was only wearing sun glasses. I do have a half helmet with half face shield enroute so I'll keep that for a bit. The quick change backings are in place so changing over will be easy when I decide to do so.

Nice, I've done on for my HPC as the wet sump does set low... I've also enclosed the whole forward area as the 7 came with a modified cam belt system that left the gears/belt exposed. I didn't want road rocks/trash getting into that system. That guard has already done its job once on a road rock. The forward piece wraps around the cross frame and the rear bolts are U shaped fasteners around the primary X piece. The alloy sheet protects the cam belt system.

The gent I bought the 2L Vaux HPC from has become a long distance friend. We've never met. During the sale he replaced the timing belt and found a slight water pump leak, so replaced that too, he wanted the car to be as good as it could be...he also sent many spares like this green nose cone etc.... wonderful guy. We'd chat for an hour about the car and other cars we'd had. I asked him if he had any nose badges lying about and he said he'd sent them. I get this box with the two cars and display; 4 badges and alloy wheel covers for the 16 in. rims on the car (lighter plastic in place now....and he refuses any compensation. I have a plan for that tho. Steve R lives in Michigan and I in Az. I have the yellow nose and the green one I've been messing with. I love the cars and the community has been great too.
-
It was a very fair price, so I didn't dicker at all.... I wanted the car.

After the car was sold the owner brought in 3 box's of 'stuff' he said. One very large plastic trunk. None of this was advertised with the sale. Full weather equipment, side screens with mirrors, windscreen complete, the original shocks/lights etc. and a ton of nuts bolts. Click style 4 point belts. And..... a softbits half hood in matching gray with corresponding rally stripes to match the car stripes, another soft bits weather cover. A bunch of mechanical bits etc.... Damn good luck

The r400 arrived early this am...Reliable Trans is def the way to go. Don't have tags yet but drove up/down our street. Man, what a nice feel. Really pleased. BTW, a nice new Conex (I've had for some time now) is a damn fine xtra garage....nothing can get in there. I have outlets and a side door put in when I bought it. Perfect for a 7.
-
Just bought an r400 that I will keep in the original livery but am playing around with my 98 HPC, I have two nose cones and the one in yellow and this one... I have a Caterham badge coming that will be in the flames....
-
Now that is pretty cool right there...
-
Ok, so I am looking for a windshield/doors etc. and the dealer calls me up and say's the seller brought in some box's to go with that car..... windshield/sides screens/full weather equipment/wet sump and hoses, intake system etc.... they had no idea. Nice Christmas present to me.
