  1. Looks like a dangerous event in traffic like that and as short as the car is..... I kept getting run off the road in my Elise in traffic....pickup trucks or tall SUV's.
  2. It only gets late afternoon sun and it is vented so I've never had an issue. I used to store my '83 911 out there.
  3. Not mine....bring a Trailer FYI https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1965-lotus-super-seven/?utm_source=Iterable&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=campaign_2648450
  4. Work is a relative term.... I loved being a soldier...it was never work. I found out what that was after I retired. BTW, I know this is repetitive but I damn sure love this Caterham 7. I got in a minor dueling match with a Porsche Cayman (newer 718) the other day and was right on his ass the whole time on the straights and on the round abouts. That Vaux 2L with the DCOE's and 7500 rpm is a hoot...I never go above 7k btw. I'll bet he was like 'what the hell, what is that old looking car?'....
  5. Probably correct on that...very handy. The unique trucks that deliver are pretty trick..
  6. I have a 2+ garage with a lift but storing a car up is a pita so some years ago I bought a shipping CONEX for an extra car keeper. I used this for an older 911 but the 7 has a ton of room. An outfit in Phoenix sells new ones and they modify them...I had a nice door put in the side and this is not a full length model, I've forgotten how long but if interested I'll measure. This is stored under my pole barn (horses) and was painted to match the tack room (by the sellers). The great thing about them is how well they are sealed...no critters.... not even bugs get in. No worries about mice etc. Just an FYI.
  7. Wobly...British sunshine! I spent a month on Salisbury plain with your SAS in the later 70's as an exchange guy. I was then US SF in 5th Gp. It rained every day but you get used to that and after a while you just laugh about it. We then had 2 SAS join us in the El Paso desert for 6 weeks.... as it was near summer, they didn't bring cold weather gear, but El Paso is base line 5000 ft. so it gets damn cold at night and they froze their asses off until we got them some sleeping bags. The Warrant said 'Now I know why all those cowboys wear long coats'...they were excellent soldiers and I've always enjoyed the exchange program. The two kneeling center are your Brits. This was my ODA 595. I'm the short guy wearing shades in the rear and was the team Sgt. ..MSG at the time. The guy with his crank out is Denzil, medic ...he ended up being the SOCOM Command Sergeant Major... I luckily ended at that rank myself. I think about my guys every day of my life. Sorry for the steal but that downpour got me going.
  8. I've put almost 300 miles on it since Friday last....this is the best blend of old Brit/modern systems ever. It was EXACTLY what I wanted and could not be more happy with the purchase. The seller was a great enthusiast and just fantastic to deal with, we'd chat for an hour on the phone about the car..... and he represented it perfectly. What a great experience this has been. I totally get the cult feel for this platform....love looking over those clamshells with the big chrome eyeballs and that Vaux 2l is fantastic. The seller put a Quaife short throw on the box and that is just right.... BTW, thanks for all of your input and I will be asking questions as I maintain this prize.
  9. Nah, since I raised the car with the higher profile tires no problems... I'll buy the spare sump simply because I can.
  10. Thanks mucho for the tips.
  11. Have one that is not 'right' so looking for one for my spare....like these...
  12. So, due to the country roads (unpaved) and high curbs (no sewer systems so folks build their curbs higher for rain to run down the streets rather than into the gas station) I put 205/55r16's on the stock 16 wheels. This is the max one can run...the front wings are fine...no issues.... I do get the odd scrape on the rear covers on the curled edges when cornering hard/fast (fast round abouts)...but minor. took some paint off of the inner lips...regular driving not an issue. This gave me about an inch more clearance and I painted the pan bottom black...no issues going over curbs so far. I've put about 150 miles on it in 5 days.
  13. No heat shroud on the muffler....as I have put belly pan on the front of the car I don't see a need for that stock cover.... I may have a line on a new spare wet sump too....
  14. Did about 80 miles today and spray painted the sump bottom black to check for scraping...none so far. The seller put a switch on the water temp so that it also measures oil temp (pick up is in/thru the drain plug)...works well.... nice to see both. Oil pressure is great and she runs really well...72 today so perfect. Love the exhaust note too. Here is a pic of the set up for my cams...adjustable sprockets and the stronger intermediate pully system...why I can't use the stock cover. Note my lump but you get the idea.
  15. I know but with this system (SBD upgraded pulley system with the hotter cams) in place the cover will not work...thanks. I have covered the area from behind the nose cone to about 5 inches past the front of the sump..... it is pretty well sealed.
  16. The forward belly pan...the why is the Vaux 2L has the exposed cam belt with the upgraded pully system and I live in Az on a dirt road in the country. I was worried about sucking dust up into that area. This looks a bit crude but works. Alloy forward from the nose cone back beyond the 1" cross brace. The plastic is 1/8 in and sleeves forward and can easily be removed for access to the oil filter. It is deep enough to give clearance to the fan belt and the pully. I've driven it on the dirt road and it does the job of keeping foreign matter out. The tape is simply to seal the edges as the plates are secured by clamps above. You can see the prior sump repaired damage..... I am going to a bit higher profile tires too.... the present ones look good but are 7 years old so it is time..... I may make a sump guard if not satisfied with the height change.
  17. Overall, it was exactly what I was looking for. I've been a fan of older Brits sports cars but didn't want to deal with the antiquated systems and leaks....yeah, do they leak. However, I wanted the driving vibe. This feels like a Brit sports car but is 'modern' in the motor/drive train/brakes etc.... best of both worlds. I recently sold an AH 100/6 BN6 that was beautiful to look at but a pita to maintain....and even tho it had a motor rebuild it leaked...I mean leaked. Many of the gaskets today are made in China and they just don't do it. I wanted that raw driving experience but in a more modern scenario.... just what I wanted actually...and I'd never even seen one in the flesh, just took a chance. Every dog has its day
  18. Had my first drive today after finishing the belly front pan and it was a blast..... really like the car and it handles nice and tight.... great fun. Glad I went this route. The temp stayed at 80/176 degree's so the work done doesn't seem to effect cooling..... another here told me it was hard to get the car to a proper temp with the Vaux 2L. but it was a cooler day 70 ish. This car might see a semi hood for the sun but will never see the full gear altho I have it.
  19. States may very but in Az my 99 Caterham had a '67 Lotus title and that is what my new Az title will reflect....when getting collector Insurance I told the insurer it was a 99 Caterham but the title reflected something else.... they went with the '67 Lotus and a full agreed upon replacement price.... it was not an issue.
  20. Made the intake screen today and the template for the forward belly pan ... the thin alloy will be here Sunday and this will cover beyond the sump when done....formable plastic will allow for lower areas by the oil filter and lower pulley.
  21. Arrived today with 5 box's of spares...in fine shape...up on the rack checking everything out. Very pleased with the deal. Have to make a front belly pan to cover the underside to protect the exposed cam belt so that's my present project...that and a rock screen in the nose.
  22. Yeah, one is a Brit car and the other a clone.... Great looking car btw, I like that body style the best. I've always found the AC Aceca to really be a fine model. Never driven one but have seen some at shows.....
  23. Brit cars are cult like...... Lucas Electrics/ the prince of darkness...what did Lucas Sr. tell his son on his death bed "Never drive at night', why do Brits drink warm beer...Lucas makes the refrigerators. ..... driving my 71 XKE in Columba's Ga at night on a dark back road.....I lost every light in and on the car.... headlights/rears and every dash light..... exciting. As to rain.... the Brit solution..... wrap a towel around your neck and drive so fast the rain goes over the windscreen and you.....
  24. Yeah, very cool vid and informative/interesting.
  25. I've had numerous Brit cars from back in the day. It always amused me that a country that has more rain than sunshine has always produced the worst weather protection extant. The designs always look like an afterthought and allow so much rain in that one needs a serious sense of humor. Triumphs, AH's specifically. Oh, and the windshield wipers...lmao... really, that's the high speed. Where I live in Az it will not be an issue and if anything I'll get the half top for a sunshade.
