I expect a strong showing of all manner of Se7ens at LOG 30 Lotus Ltd’s 30th annual Lotus Owners Gathering (LOG 30) October 8th through 11th 2010 Gettysburg Pennsylvania Northern Virginian, Maryland, DC and parts of Pennsylvania are hotbeds of Se7en activity. Since LOG 30 will be closer to New England, another hotbed of Se7en activity, many people who skipped LOG in the past few years or have taken more comfortable highway cars will take their Se7ens to LOG 30. I know of 8 Lotus Seven owners that have already made commitments to have their cars there, http://www.SimpleSevens.com is keeping a list. One Mark VI owner says he will bring his car and another Mark VI is a strong possibility. I also know of several owners of non-Lotus Seven style cars who have said that they will probably attend with their cars. For an event over a year away this is a very strong level of commitment. One of the issues is that many people who traditionally attend LOG have several cars that they could bring. We have that "problem" ourselves. Taking 1 car to LOG is easy, more than one gets much more difficult. Se7en attendance will be somewhat weather dependent. If there is a strong possibility of rain I expect several people will leave their Se7en in the garage and take something more rain proof like their M100 or Esprit.

I like these suggestions and have added them to my list of possibilities. Keep the ideas coming. I urge anyone to consider becoming a sponsor of LOG 30. Opportunities abound for sponsorship at all levels. If you have a special event in mind consider financial or in kind sponsorship, a bit of grease can easy the way.

OK with the first post out of the way it is time to ask for a bit of help. Many of you know from first hand experience that LOG is fun. Hopefully everyone on this forum knows that all Se7ens are welcome at LOG. What you may not know is that it takes a great deal of work and a never ending stream of ideas to keep LOG fresh. I have taken on the role of contest chair (i.e., craft, long distance awards…). To fulfill my role successfully I need your help. I need your ideas. I need your constructive criticism of past LOG contests. Please send me a private email of any ideas you may have. If they are related to contests I promise that I will carefully consider your thoughts and opinions. If they are related to other aspects of LOG I will send them on to the appropriate person and maintain your anonymity if you so desired.

Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car Magazine

Hemmings Sports & Exotics does a pretty good job covering Lotus. I received and read the article today also. -
Caterham and Ford team up. http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=20120

Post this on LotusTalk and wait for the flames. It will be great fun

I had been thinking of going to check it out. It seems like a very good group of events. What are the parties and car shows like?

Thanks. I have no idea who owns the yellow car. The method of packing is cool. It reminds me of Tony V. on his expeditions. I can't even tell if the rear end is sagging or if it is powering out of a turn.

There are some cool Se7en pictures from the Tail of the Dragon http://killboy.blogspot.com/ Two of my favorite but then I'm biased.

There is a Toyota powered car. I think it is out of New England. A lot depends on budget and what fabrication you can do or have done. Dave Bean Engineering has some good trick parts: radiators, half shafts, differentials... Others that know the cars are JAE, RD Enterprises, Sports Car World ...

There was a guy at LOG who is selling his Westfield 11. I don't remember his name but he is a long time Lotus guy with a Europa, 05 Elise, S1 Elise with a Honda engine and maybe some others. I can try to find his name if anyone is seriously interested.

At least two Se7ens made it to the Tail of the Dragon / Hellbender on Tuesday & Wednesday (6/2/09 & 6/3/09).

Wow, I was at Nothern today and saw those fenders. I was thinking how nice they were.

Yellow7 (Tom) had a smile on his face all weekend! His cousin John seemed to be having a good time too. John's girlfriend is sweet. Lucky guy.

We just got back home about 2 hours ago. I missed several Sunday driving events because of brain fade. It was probably just as well as high performance driving and brain fade do not make good companions. Talledega was a hoot. I ran the car at full throttle for at least 1.5 laps although it was probably not the smartest thing to do on a recently rebuilt engine. When the cars in front of me slowed down to create a gap things got interesting. They would slow to create a gap then charge the corners. I would floor the throttle but not much would happen as I was so close to terminal velocity. I would then have to fight to stay up on the banking. It was great fun but I will admit to being a wee bit nervous. It was a joy to be following directly behind a beautiful type 14 Elite. The Barber museum was fabulous. The luncheon was very good. The tour excellent. They do great work and the museum deserves support from anyone who likes Lotus or motorcycles. They even have an 1982 Yamaha RD350LC on display that is similar in all but condition and color to the one in my garage! There were some great cars at the people's choice Concourse. It was easy to covet any number of the neighbors cars. The track day was great. I missed the first run diagnosing and fixing stuck jets in both SU's! Being the slowest of the slow I didn't get many laps in each 15 minute session. I took it easy and had no incidents. I even learned a bit about the the track and driving. From LOG we went to the Tail of the Dragon. I managed one pass on the Dragon and some of Hell bender. True Seven roads. I managed to get rained upon which made some of the drive even more interesting. The Seven does great on wet roads. The reduction in grip makes it even more smooth and responsive. It was wonderful to meet and get reacquainted with so many Se7en people. I am sorry I didn't get a chance to talk with all of you.

An epic drive and your car looks very good. It was a pleasure to meet you folks. Dean G.

NASCAR = spec racing on oval tracks with a "shoot I'm a country boy aspect" as interesting as profession wrestling. Indy = spec racing on oval tracks F1 = money driven sport with big differences in $. Aero wall prevents passing. Street courses are the worst. No run off room makes kills racing.

So my Megabusa might not be street legal...

Or you could try one of the helmets with the cool air feed. That would be cool in a couple of ways. -
Excellent first day write-up. Have fun.

Great to hear it went to enthuasiasts. I was afraid to watch it on ebay. It was too tempting. Did it turn out to be an early Westfield?
-
That's the important part.

Yes, I know an Evora is a bit too luxurious for this crowd. Still I want one.
