  1. Hi PanAmericano - While that Caterham CSR "restyle" has been discussed on this forum once when I first saw it, I do not list it now as 1) its in Switzerland and 2) it cannot be imported unless Federalized - that means crash testing, air bags, etc. That said I give them credit for trying to modernise the classic seven for something a little different. I do regularly exclude a variety of ads from this list for: 1) overseas and not able to be imported 2) really sketchy sellers (the so-so ones I let come through with a note e.g. this week - googling them is always a good idea) 3) car dealers who decided to get ugly with me once 4) those that I genuinely miss because they are on a different website to where I systematically look I think I get 95% of what is genuinely for sale out there and list 90% - its not perfect but it is a good starting point. cheers mike

  3. First two links are the same and are a Craigslist ad link for many many weeks. Not sure there is much left of the original chassis as Jim points out but it does have some pedigree if you refer the linked article http://www.simplesevens.org/0300/0300.htm The Mallock is one I had not seen. Steve M on this forum has a beautiful shiny one - goes really well too.
  4. Yes I have to admit I am baffled. Take all the noise away and at its core it is a Caterham classic with a zetec and not many options other than pretty seats and an LSD. Its only claim to a high price is that someone once put $130k (or was it $150k) labor into it to add lots of little bespoke touches that quite frankly do not increase resale value much but maybe do increase emotional desire. Take that headline labor cost fact away and it would be unlikely to get much over $30k - maybe $35k - in the regular classifieds on Ebay or Craigslist. Once you are in the $40s price region then you are getting up to some serious alternative offerings of higher spec/more recent Caterhams. I was at the factory on Monday and a few of the guys there were following the auction and were similarly astounded that someone spent that much on a build. Ultimately the seller and the market will meet - seller can afford to hold out until the market lifts back up to their level. Likely in 2019 when GBP starts its recovery from its Brexit malaise (or maybe not if there is a disorganized exit)and the new Caterham market prices lift again restored the used car 'market.' Oh and while I think of it Vovchandr, call Roger Krause for your 13 inch tire problem. They sourced the Avon ZZS on my maroon caterham I sold earlier this year and they also had the Avon ZVS as an alternative 13" road tire option for the Caterham. They deliver to you from the west coast. Now 14 inch wheel/tire combos are more challenging!

  10. Welcome and congratulations on your new purchase. Not sure what a Saber 7 is? Any photos, as the name is not ringing any familiarity with me. For the engine I suspect it will be a Pinto. One way to identify is to use the information in the Burton Power catalog page 8/9 area https://www.burtonpower.com/catalogue-request.html I suspect they will have headers too. Once you know the engine, Dave Bean may have headers. Otherwise you may just want to go custom. Cheers mike
  11. Ah hah! It was that one. They are a really nice build. Really nice integrated design that shows up in the quality of the finish. Drive really well too. If you need a track day roll bar solution, then we can connect you to Dave on this forum who has designed one using the mounts originally designed for that purpose but for which Superformance never got around to selling.

  14. THe second image is because you attached the images on the forum. If you just embed an image hosted on a third party site then those second images will not show up. Ignore it for now. I have heard of Crower frequently but never used them.
  15. Second the recommendation on Crane - I have 2 camshafts on order with them right now. Nice guys. Andy - was your post #13 missing some images?
  16. Well done! Congratulations and drinks all round for Canadian 7. What did you buy (or was it sell?)?
  17. As painful as it sounds, it is hard to argue against Graham's logic above since I suspect a past bodge is at work here and you may struggle to understand where they got sneaky.
  18. As a person who knows all about camshafts melting down on dynos recently :ack: :banghead:, you have to ask why it happened before you repair/replace. Why only one lobe and why that rather unusual damage? What did it hit? Since it is the second time it received damage does it make sense to drop in a brand new replacement? You can replicate original specs to avoid needing a retune and have peace of mind to know it is not weakened and potentially happen again.
  19. This is from a very useful build blog that I have referenced in the past. Its for a Caterham 360 - so a 2L Duratec but the principles are the same for a 2.3Lw http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=14775&stc=1

  21. I have always liked the Avon CR500/ZZS for the Caterham. Good lightweight sporting tires with nice grip in a variety of road conditions. However, what wheels are you running? They may not fit?
  22. This is a clue to how I solved my problem of a Caterham for next year. There will be Ginettas for rent starting the beginning of next years driving season. Dates are likely in Dec/Jan and rentals usually get reserved quickly. I will be monitoring in December for when things surface as you are not the only one who is keen for this. If it is SPa and Zaandvoort then also look to RSR Spa for car rental. You book your car with them and then book your track day with BAT or just book an RSR Spa track day and car on the one site. There is also an RSR Nurburg.
  23. Hmmm - never noticed that before. I think it is partly an optical illusion as I am taking the photo looking uphill so the angle is accentuated. Here is another Caterham from the same fleet parked on level ground. Does not look as much angle but there is still some.
  24. Brands Hatch was nippy. Morning was 35 degrees F when I arrived and frost everywhere. Needless to say that is tricky for Caterhams. And so it showed by one Caterham spearing off on Graham Hill bend on the sighting laps. Even I found the car pushing at 35mph in that bend. Another Caterham triggered the red flag on lap 1 by nosing into the tire wall because it understeered off on the frost. On the restart, technically lap 2, the silver Caterham in the photos lost it out of clearways by excess throttle and spun along pit wall denting every corner - luckily cosmetic pretty much. So up to 11am I tiptoed around the wet patches, letting all the heavy cars past - Ginettas, Ford Focus (Foci?), etc. - as their weight gives a more consistent contact patch cutting through the surface frost/damp. But after 11am there was enough warmth and grip for the equation to reverse and the Caterhams to once again be ascendant. Temps topped out at around 50 degF. The nice thing about the track is that you did not need a high hp car to be quick. Its tight layout compressed the hp differential between cars. There are no stop start types of corners and so the flow helps the lower hp cars while being tight enough to restrict the high hp cars. Now if you opened up to the GP layout then that long straight turns into a high hp track. But I was very happy on the short Indy circuit. The only other circuit that I can think has this characteristic is Cadwell Park. Even Oulton Park has too many straights. As for Bookatrack, you need to keep in mind that only one of the shareholders has sold out and he is still married to the other shareholder while Ginetta comes in as new. There is complexity behind why this happened. Ginetta is in between the BAT showroom and the BAT workshops at the Donington Circuit. Ginetta is really doing great things these days and so needed some expansion room. The BAT Caterham showroom was not being fully utilized to its full potential - a lot of space being wasted. Its hard to run a Caterham dealership when the cars you are selling are on a 1-1.5 year lag for production slots. Arguably Caterham and Ginetta compete at some level so thats a challenge. Jonny is a keen Caterham fan and enjoys his driving - that will not change. There is a large pre-existing customer base of Caterham owners that BAT looks after - for track days and road - that wont change. I think you will see used Caterhams still being sold but the track rental fleet will go to be a range of Ginettas, which they already have. If you have not seen the new range of Ginettas then you should check them out. Gorgeously pretty little coupe. Quite small but styled really well. Think of it as a Caterham SV chassis draped in composite body work. I think it is smaller than a Stalker. Definitely lighter, but that would not be difficult as Stalkers weigh a few tons. Website here: https://www.ginetta.com/ Their model is based on racing series set up in UK and Europe. They have a LMP car built too. The track day element dovetails into their existing program quite well. The only problem I see is that their lower end track cars are pretty anemic - the G40 GRDC has a 135hp (flywheel) 1.8L Zetec. Price of GBP35K (US$41K) is not just car but is a 4 weekend race package with tuition, track days, etc. So its pretty expensive for for performance entry level. You can go up to the G40 GT5 which is about USD47K entry and then that gets you on the race weekend program with some high profile events - e.g. British Touring Car Championship also running that circuit on that weekend. I tested a G40 GRDC and liked it a lot. Great handling - equal of the Caterham but I found myself thinking it would be pretty slow along the Kemmel Straight at Spa (rest of the circuit would be fine) If you want more power then you graduate to the G55 which at its entry level is 355hp - sounds good right? But the price of entry here is GBP89K (or US$100k). Thats pricey. So the Caterham is a more cost effective entry point for track day fun but Ginetta is more directed at getting racing under controlled supported oversight with track day fun available on the side. Cost for track rentals will likely increase slightly as the car is a more expensive package. However, you can still rent track Caterhams through Boss Racing and attend Bookatrack events. http://www.boss-racing.co.uk/ If you want to try out Spa-Francorchamps then Caterham rental is probably now quite difficult so you are using the upcoming BAT Ginetta rentals or RSR Spa for their series of cars https://www.rsrspa.com/ I have tried the RSR track days but prefer the BAT organized ones. You can use the RSR Spa rentals at any Spa track day, including Bookatrack. They are next to the circuit and fully support. I have rented with them at Nurburgring and think they are a good outfit. The options for next years track days are still evolving but I will be in something.
  25. For me it was always considerable delicate brute force! Edited to add - In the past I have used a piece of timbr and a rubber mallet to hit them out. Once out you can crimp the end and grease them so they slide back in better but keep in mind their end position is always dictated by friction.
