  1. NOTE: Late change in dates as a result of NJMP needing to accommodate some event-related COVID changes It is now Saturday October 17 and Sunday the 18th, 2020. Numbers are capped at 15 cars - no exceptions This is a 2020 Save The Date notice for the Annual Sevens HPDE Event at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Subject to final confirmation we have landed on Saturday October 17 and Sunday October 18, 2020. It is later than previous years as the traditional June/July dates are no longer offered by NJMP Drivers Club. Looking at the options available to us: March and April are too cold with a chance of snow still out there May is traditionally unsettled according to our resident weather expert, Yellowss7. Like all weather forecasters he is always certain and frequently wrong... June/July - no suitable dates available August - too stinking hot and humid September/October - best options available to choose from and weather is more temperate. As in prior years, NJMP Drivers Club will be in full command of operating the day. They have generously allocated HPDE sessions to participants that will be seven-only. This is desirable as you do not have to be out on track with big heavy cars around you and your momentum will not be impeded by some big heavy car slowing you up through corners. The NJMP Drivers Club rules and regulations apply for registration, technical inspection, driver qualifications and all aspects of safety in compliance with New Jersey laws. They will offer the registration site and collect all fees for this event. Tom and I are responsible for the restaurant reservations. The preliminary 2020 schedule looks like: Friday October 16: Arrive in the PM and set up. Karting event. Casual dinner at Clubhouse Saturday October 17: Thunderbolt HPDE. Dinner TBD (trying for Food Truck at Garage Mahal) Sunday October 18: Thunderbolt HPDE. Awards dinner (casual) at Clubhouse The good news from this is we have 2 whole days on the Thunderbolt circuit. This is something we have never managed to do before given it is the most popular circuit at NJMP. So this will be a good opportunity to get some quality track time on a fresh track for many of you. It also has a good infrastructure of garages and an observation tower to take in the entire track. While the Lightning Circuit is a good fun momentum circuit, the Thunderbolt circuit is very different by being more technical in nature. The first half of the circuit is fast, long straights, fast sweepers where the key is to carry as much speed as possible. The second half of the circuit is tight, technical and quite slow in average speed. This part contains the Jersey Devil section comprised of the most radical decreasing radius corner of any race track in North America, then a heavily off camber slow left corner which rewards experimenting with different entry points, apex points and exit lines. For those who have never participated in this event then two videos of the event by Glen S, forum member, Lotus Enthusiast and all round good guy, will help you appreciate it. 2018 2017 For an instructional look at the circuit, below is a 360 degree video. For those who have not used one before then: 1) Click through this video into youtube itself. 2) Play the video 3) move the camera around by (a) the arrows top left, or (b) clicking your mouse on the video playing and dragging to look behind, up, sides or down If you move the camera to point down slightly you will see I overlaid a track map on the passenger seat below the speed. You may have to move the view slightly right to read the various captions anyway as the youtube screen size is narrower than my video edit app. Sorry no sound as this camera does not have an external mic. Time: 0:00 Leaving the pits - where to line up to await going out on circuit 0:23 Pit lane and the turn onto the circuit 0:40 Leaving the pits and the blend line you should follow merging onto track 0:52 For the next two warm up laps I have added text commentary on some of the more tricky corners and what you should not do. 5:35 Some clean laps at a good moderate pace. There was too much traffic to be really quick but this will show the various lines. I deliberately tried lots of different lines in the Devil to show you what happens - the speed is relatively low. Experimentation will teach you a lot about your car in this corner. Just watch the entry speed on the decreasing radius right hand corner on entry into the Devil - it will catch you out first time. 10:38 I lap a Stalker. 19:19 I follow Tom so you can see the track lines from a different perspective. 23:50 Returning to the pits and back of pits This will above all be a social event. We do it to enjoy our sevens' unique handling and performance capabilities in a facility that allows safety compared with doing the same on road (which would be illegal too). There will be no racing or timing of events. We want the atmosphere to be relaxed and social and above all enjoying our cars as they were designed to be used, in a mutually respectful and safe manner. Final details will be posted as they come together. Final confirmation pending from NJMP Drivers Club. Registration will not open until last week of August. In advance, feel free to PM Tom (Yellowss7) or me on this forum if you have questions. Alternatively you can email sevensarefun AT G mail DOT com Tom and I are looking forward to welcoming you to the 2020 event!
  2. The current crop of chassis have the VIN embedded into the chassis tube. Its not a stamping and not a plate. Definitely not a retrofit. There will be some back story as to why a close-to-new Caterham chassis does not have VIN, MSO or other identifying mark. Probably an Arch replacement chassis or similar.

  4. I am actually seeing two small pics then below your edit, two large pics. Is that what everyone else has? Really nice photos. Fall is a wonderful time for photography. I like the color matched half hood. I also see you have fixed the ride height/rake issue - it no longer looks like a dog with worms dragging its bum along the ground.
  5. The license plate of this R400 has a backstory. The owner chose "DCP" in the plate as it referred to the lurid pink metallic of his car. So what does DCP stand for? Dog Cock Pink. Truth in advertising I suppose.... The beauty of Anglesey is the view over the Irish Sea at various points around the circuit.
  6. This type of curb does not do good things to the inside front suspension....wheel is a little airborne. The BAC Mono was incredibly quick but the two this day were plagued with electrical gremlins.
  7. Finally got the photos from the Anglesey day Loved this Exige
  8. When the photographer stopped laughing long enough to steady his camera, he may have taken a few photos. I need to wait for him to sort them out. I had to take it off after a few laps as: 1) I was black flagged 2) The dog's upper "lip" was developing into a receding hairline 3) They were concerned that it was not particularly fire retardant. Despite me explaining that fire was not an issue with organically harvested cute little polyesters (I compared them to mature cottonistas that were humanely killed in an abbatoir) and that they were confusing me with Sir Spinalot (Kitcat) or Sir Crashalot (Xcarguy), I had to take it off. In the short time I experienced it at speed, the ears were acting as wings and there was definitely downforce pressure on my head and neck. I so want to see a photo myself! :jester: PS: For the gullible people called Mark on this forum, cotton is grown and not killed. Polyesters are cute at a cellular level.
  9. I was such an animal behind the wheel at Donington today!

For a start, if you go down to the ocean beach near Perth you will not find a croc. You will possibly get eaten by a very large great white shark (no I am not kidding). Sharks ate all the crocs. Crocs live further north in WA. WA has the most fatal shark attacks in Australia - 25% of all attacks are fatal. The USA has 3 times as many shark attacks as Australia but only a fraction of one percent are fatal. Sharks are not dangerous in the USA. Jaws was a bit of fake news. Why? Soft gums possibly? Population not as well marinated for eating? Fake tan products taste terrible? If you do go for a swim then it is essential you 'man up' and wear the traditional Australian bathing costume called a "budgie smuggler". If Australian politicians can wear them then so can you. No particular order but here are my ideas: Central Perth is like a cornfield belt city - not much happening, although it is far more interesting than Little Rock, which I have also visited. People are really nice in Perth too. They know how to drink lots and stay sober. To see it just take the hop on hop off bus - that covers the basics. Fremantle is a really good place to spend an afternoon walking around - you have the harbor, UNESCO Historical Prison, a brewery, lots of waterfront restaurants to eat at, afterwards a beach to swim and be eaten at, maritime museum, shipwrecks museum. Bon Scott is in Fremantle cemetery (who knew you were an ACDC fan!). This is where I stay when I go to Perth. Its only about a 20-30min drive from Perth central. Rottnest Island as you identified is a good choice. So much to do here. Quokkas are just wonderful things - love them! Your challenge is to get a selfie with a quokka - actually not that hard since they love to pose for photos. A long day trip would be to go to The Pinnacles near Cervante. 3 hour drive north of central Perth. Swan Valley wine area is that way - spot of lunch? If you are really into wine then a similar distance south is Margaret River. Penguin Island - a boat tour led by a good naturalist will have you spotting sea lions, dolphins, penguins, birds, etc. Good snorkeling out there too. Just as good as Rottnest but not as well known and smaller. Whale watching boats used to sail out of Fremantle - its seasonal so may not be running. Star gazing. The night sky is magnificent in outback Australia. Perth counts as outback since it is essentially a desert city. Get well out of town one evening to admire it. The further out into the desert you go the more impressive it is. They used to do sunset dinner tours of the Pinnacles with star gazing afterwards. If you were staying for longer and could get further afield then the obvious sites would be: Shark Bay/Monkey Mia - dolphins, wildlife, national parks Broome Ningaloo for the whale sharks - this is seasonal Touring the Kimberley/Bungle Bungles - plenty of salt water crocodiles around the Kimberley.

Hi Sean. Yes I have. Long way from anywhere but the drinks are good. How long do you have there and can you get time to explore further afield? Cheers Mike

  18. Your level of typos reaches Trumpesque proportions....
  19. Did you turn this forum into a dating site Vlad?
  20. This is terrible. I cannot poke a stick at Shane? I cannot even use the "up yours" smiley at JohnCh? Oh woe is me!
  21. Its been discussed on this forum a few times. SimpleSevens and Dennis Ortenburger have recognized it in their website/book. So it has some level of historical recognition with what seems to be generally accepted as a period-made IRS conversion to an S1 chassis. I have not checked if it is a genuine S1 chassis but everyone else seems to be accepting that it is from what I am reading? I view period-made as 50s to mid-60s. The key question impacting value from that is: 1) Was it a home-brew modification by an owner? or 2) Was it a Lotus experimental vehicle? No clear cut evidence either way. The owner makes his case in the auction wording. SimpleSevens documented fact pattern balances that out. We will likely never get the complete fact pattern that convinces everyone out there but I don't think that matters anyway as it probably does not move the value much either way plus it is fascinating the way it is. Putting that aside, it is a wonderful vehicle that is full of history. Alloy nose cone - so so rare. The IRS makes it better than a live axle whether it be on track or road. The BMC A series engine is one I had in my S2 back in Oz a lifetime ago and they are sweet little engines that rev their guts out. Switftune in UK do a Mini version of that engine that they rev to 10,000rpm in competition mode - bulk money build though. A potential buyer needs to decide will he race or road this. I don't know what class this best fits into for racing as it is today. Some thought needed there. It would kill a Mini with a hot A series engine so it has huge racing potential with some research. It has what I call a race restoration currently. The car likely needs some fettling work to bring it up to its best. Its buyer weakness is: - its rear view with the unusually modded rear end. - Potential purchasers need to think about whether they fit behind the wheel. These were small. Lot shorter in driving position than an S3 Caterham. Forgetting our width restrictions, Shane and I would not fit because of our long legs. I think the max person is around 5'11? I hope Dean chimes in here on the forum to weigh in given his extensive S1 knowledge and experience. Bidding starts at $20K. Supposedly no reserve per the ad. That would be pretty close to where a buyer assumes no official Lotus provenance. Where else do you get an S1 for sale at this price that actually runs and drives? Sure it needs work but that creates the value play in my mind. If it were me I would: - give it the Steve from St Louis mirror polish treatment - clean up that dash area - paint it matt black or black crackle finish to avoid blindness, find Smith gauges and make them look consistent, logically array switchgear, sort out the "ear" worn part of dash at side of chassis, put a knuckle protector on lower edge of dash to avoid gear changing injuries - mount the wings and find some head lights/indicators/rear brake lights/etc - make it road safe. - need to assess the A series engine condition more closely. It runs but so does a single horse so who knows if it is producing power good enough for a buy to be happy? A rebuild may be worth it? - probably put a black tonneau cover over top of boot area or maybe an ali panel with dzus for access - the rear view is the car's biggest visual drawback - it looks messy. - light cosmetics and clean up in the engine bay - wheel alignment and assessment of tire age for cracks - replacement of anything perishable rubber in suspension/engines/brakes I can see upside to adding value for the first time in this car's 'for sale' life initially on Craigslist then more recently Ebay. That work listed above is cheap and improves its cosmetic appeal plus improves its mechanical freshness/reliability. It may never come close to crossing the $30k sale price area even after my suggested mods but I don't think that ever matters - you have a very unique and very rapid S1 (equal to crossflow powered Caterham/Birkin) that you should still be whole on if you ever have to sell.
  22. That Lotus 7 S1 has been on and off for sale for the last few years, always by Old School Restorations.
  23. One other thing - do you have the anti roll bar installed?
