That is a really special find. I will inject a note of caution to the above estimate. A pristine 1990s Caterham with a BDR is asking $37k at Wirewheel - maybe $34k without dealer premium. Lots of photos to compare this against. However, - You dont know what spec this BD engine is. Is it BDR? BDG? BDD? The hp can vary greatly and higher hp is higher dollars. I suspect it is BDR just from the ancilliaries but the owner will likely know. - You dont know what the motor is like internally - does it need a rebuild? Same goes for gearbox and diff. - Its been sitting some time so everything has dried out and gone hard and in some cases cracked - radiator hoses, bushings, gas lines, brake lines, tires, etc. Cars take a long time to bring back from sitting doing nothing and these parts add up quickly...ask me how I know! - Then it is pretty messy - you will want to take bits apart and give it a good clean up - lots of work for you or expensive mechanics - Then there are unknowns - what exactly is the oil pump issue? Did it starve the bearings before it needed modification? A clue is in the headlights - look at the tape. Did he have a problem with oil pressure on track? I bet he did. BD engine oil pumps are not cheap. BD engine rebuilds are even more expensive. All this takes parts, effort, sweat, labor. I don't want to scare you but I do want you to go in on this eyes open. This is definitely a worthwhile project with a very desirable seven that is titled. With the uncertainties from above, I would give a range of $20k to $30k and I am leaning at the lower half of that range based on the limited photos. That range is huge and could easily be wrong - it needs to be narrowed with answers to the above questions. The priority to make a deal happen: 1) Engage the owner on the car - he has to be moved towards selling and that means you are helping him to emotionally release from a car. You have to persuade the owner to give up a failed dream - his failure. 2) At the same time you have to try to get answers on the open questions - this firms up your view of the price to be offered. IF in doubt you go low in bid. 3) Then you have to persuade him to release it at a price that makes sense to him emotionally and to you rationally/economically. Thats done by knowing the market for complete cars and what is required to get the car back to condition where it equals that value. The seller will not have done that homework since he will be thinking emotionally. This process can be lengthy and take hours or months but thats how barn finds happen - its just that some sellers get to the right outcome quicker than others. Good luck!!!!

The trophies for the awards night are coming along nicely. So far we have: Golden Skidmarks Award for the tire tracks left on the track or grass. This may be challenging since Simon, Jeff and myself have had lots of practice on these two circuits plus Shane, Roman and Mike are attending. Debris Award for the bad person who brings rocks, cones, obstacles, etc onto the track - its a painted rock "I May Be Faster Than the Stig" Award for the best driver - this is a statue of the Stig. Yes this is for those that deliver point bys with panache, style, grace and above all quickly The "Honey I Broke it Again"Award replaces the former Mechanical Sympathy award but still rewards those participants with the most bone headed mechanical moment of the event The Polisher Award is a particularly vile award that Steve automatically wins but I think we have a few promising contenders this year. And the new award....ta da!.... The Golden Plunger Award. Intended to recognize the one that had the biggest brown seat moment, it is of course a gold painted plunger on a plinth with a roll of TP (just in case). And a new special award that needs to remain secret for now. Needless to say it will be very special and the laughter will probably see us kicked out of Andreas Trattoria. As we are running Thunderbolt circuit on the Wednesday, I feel that there are many prime opportunities for landscaping and gardening at Turn 2, 4, and most of all the entry to the Devil, the most radical decreasing radius turn of any track in America. There is a third option I suppose. Slather yourself with butter, or olive oil if you want to have a healthier heart, and then just take a running leap towards the drivers side opening. I personally would suggest you keep your legs tightly together, just in case. That was a lady? He she was French so that can be confusing at the best of times.

Its is likely your IT setup. I have no problems on a variety of IT set ups at home, my weekender, hotels or in various office building locations in the company - both Mac and Windoze. Do you have an active virus scanner or web filter like barracuda that is constantly operating - that will often be the cause of what you describe.

:rofl: If I, as the ultimate fat bastard, can do it then you can. Two videos to illustrate your options. The first video is my preferred method. And before you point out that they are thin and short then note they are using the S3 chassis and not the SV - advantanges and disadvantages compared to you are neutralized. I never liked the full hood top as it always fogged up in there from heat of the engine/gearbox/me plus driving visibility was never great. Clearly it is best that you not be caught in the rain or buy a half hood top with the zipper roof cutouts and then use that with the sidescreens and a rear mesh deflector.

Your pads will be fine. Tom got 12 years out of his. Mine are on their 8th year and have 50% left. Upgrade to the race master cylinder option that Caterham has. They are lovely tires pity they disappear so quickly!

Similar to Donington I have two choices of video Option 1 360 video that you can pan around and look everywhere but not great sound but it does have a track map and data overlay and corner labelling for the first lap so you know what corner I am going through. I would belt into corners at max velocity 105mph, usual high speed understeer and then the aim was to minimize the speed being scrubbed off by the corner. Then on exit, I could not drop a gear to pick up the pace because of the gaps between the ratios forcing me to hold a higher gear and lug it out of the corners. And this was the situation all over the circuit – Copse, Maggott/Beckett, Abbey, etc. It was a fun day on a circuit but frustrating all the same. So whats my favorite – Donington. No contest. Its fast and fun and well suited to a seven. Even in a lightly powered Caterham it is a good drive because it flows so well. Donington is one of the best circuits you will ever drive in a Seven as it flows so well maintaining momentum.

Silverstone Circuit Then it was Silverstone late in the week. Like Donington, I had been here before and I was driving the same Caterham 310. However, I had big reservations. The GP layout at Silverstone is a power circuit. Very fast. But I only had 152hp so I was not going to be very fast. Plus with the 5 speed gearbox that they only offer now (apparently there are now reliability issues with the Caterham 6 speed box that traditionally was specified and that I have in my Caterham CSR) then I was likely to find myself stuck without the right gear at some point. For video we have two options. The first is the 360 video. You can pan the camera around to look out the back or look down on me driving - click and drag the cursor to pan. For Kitcat you can pan the camera round and round and round and so pretend you are spinning like normal. For Xcarguy you can aim the camera at the sky and pretend you launched it again. Sorry no decent sound on this as it does not support an external microphone. For those who are conventional and like sound then this is the alternative video.
