  1. Must be in the line with all the MILFs at the coffee shop getting a fancy skinny latte made on organic soy. Did you see anyone mooching around fully color coordinated in red?
  2. Mike - It is only a 1.4L Rover engine. Vmax looks about right.
  3. Mr Fluffy Tail drives pretty well
  4. Perfect for that hairdresser with multiple hair dryers.. :leaving:
  5. You are likely right. I was thinking it looked like the 1.8L Duratec L series that was used in the Mazda equivalent of the Ford Ranger plus Mazda saloons in the Japanese home market and in Europe in the Mazda 6 plus Ford Mondeo. However, in hindsight these only introduced in 2001. So a Miata engine donor would make far more sense as you suggest. Borrowing the Miata rear IRS would be a smart idea too. The boot is particularly small which would infer a bulkier IRS set up.
  6. No more updates, just planting ideas... Starting from next year, those in the USA can import the Mitusoka Type Zero. Those in Canada already can. No its not a WW2 fighter plane - its a seven It has a 1.8L Mazda version of the Duratec. So respectable power through a Mazda Miata 5 speed box. I particularly like the sign for numpties on the manifold saying "hot" duh! It has a nicely finished off and equipped boot area. I do like how they tire shined the tread of the spare wheel... And the interior is particularly well finished off. Driver and passenger side airbags is a novel touch in a car where there is no impact protection for the fleshy stuff above the waist. Price is about where decent similar era Caterhams are going for these days, albeit LHD rather than RHD. The quality of its presentation is similar to the Superformance S1 which were well finished off. And its for sale now if you need immediate gratification. Ad is here if you wish to know more about this seven replica not traditionally this side of the Pacific ocean (or Atlantic if you go the wrong way around) https://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/mitsuoka/zero+1/24900834/?isNew=1
  7. The hotel receptionist says it is a wonderful summer day here in Anglesey, Wales - gale force winds, 40s, spray coming past my hotel window horizontally, white caps on Treaddur Bay but it is sunny... I suppose she is right in relative terms.... 8. Anglesey is iconic for the location and scenery Weather can be fickle though.
  9. You post at 5pm Eastern and you only just woke up? Hello? Good morning? What did you do last night?
  10. Dear Bawwwwwb - Numpty recommends alcohol. Even I look attractive after many drinks and a Ford 150 could look like a se7en given time, space, bourbon, daydreaming blondes and some guacamole dip to munch on. :cooldude: Sadly, I needed to change my sturdy 15 inch macbook to a new laptop given I was refused for air travel last week given the recall, not that mine was subject to the recall, but that many airlines are just blanket banning 15 inch macbooks from any travel now - both in cabin and checked luggage. Fedexing a laptop to home from Norway before being able to fly was a right pain in the posterior. :banghead: I will update on Saturday in Anglesey as I am there on track next weekend. Then the following weekend is Marrakech. Then the weekend after that is Geneva.... :seeya:
  11. The searches did not run properly last night...probably because I switched to 2 new computers - one mac and one microsoft - this last week. Call it user error by numpty!
  12. You forget we all have airbags behind the wheel... I love that type of car and driving it hard. Makes you drive appropriately so that you do not run out of talent and kiss a tree, cliff, rock, SUV, etc.
  13. Really Daniel? Its never worried me. Works just fine in LSD mode. You can get modest incremental replacements out of the UK by transmission specialists. They are good up to around 350hp in a competition environment. For us we would not stress it out that much. The real issue with that diff was the original chassis only had 2 fixing points. Then the extra boot braces came in around 2010 for 4 point mounting but even then I have always been concerned for torque effect ripping the mounts off. I think the article is wrong. Arch is only making 1 chassis - the S5 CSR which is CSR sized.
  14. Precisely. A 350 stroker will not fit in a Caterham, Birkin, Westfield, Ultralite, or Locost (e.g. Champion) chassis. Either it is some bastardized chassis love child of a hippo or its a Storker?

  16. Front indicators? For my last 3 Caterhams (including the current) they were the same as Caterham UK parts - not changed over. Were yours changed? Assuming you have the original then: After mid 90s (or somewhere in the 90s) it was a Land Rover part. I have a note of LDL005 but that returns no results now so they changed part numbers over the years. Prior to that it was a Lucas part L794 as fitted to Rootes products like Hilman Imps plus also fitted to Morgans. The parts are usually imprinted with the number so you can cross check. Best places to confirm for correct part numbers: Paddock Spares https://www.paddockspares.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=indicator and Car Builder Solutions https://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/search?q=indicators&cid=0&isc=true&mid=0&pf=&pt=&adv=false&isc=false&sid=false Once you have an accurate current part number you can source here. Assuming someone has actually replaced yours to be DOT compliant based on the original builder encountering a DMV request on first registering the car then you are on your own. It may be easier just to replace the both indicators to match at that point. Does your DOT indicator have any part number imprinted? Should be there near the DOT stamp. If you are looking for rear light cluster then they came off a 1950s Sprite Caravan in the UK. They are mounted upside down so fill with water when wet - drill a hole to allow drainage otherwise they short out over time. I love the ramshackle nature of kit cars some times!
  17. That Hayabusa Caterham SV is actually a pretty special car. The late David Savile-Peck was a Caterham dealer in the Greater Vancouver area. His offering was a line of fully constructed Hayabusa Caterham SVs for which the tally was 25-30 built (depends who you talk to). David was a former Can-Am racer knew how to build a performance car. I saw one in Vancouver and it presented beautifully - very well put together. Nice use of the bike dash in the center and by all accounts went very well. The Hayabusa bike engine is around 200lbs complete with transmission and all liquids. The 2L Zetec is around 220lbs dry and no transmission. The 2L Duratec is around 205-210lbs dry with no transmission. A T-9 transmission is another 30lbs plus the weight of the bellhousing on top of that. The Hayabusa in its standard state produced 195hp while the Duratec and Zetec were 175hp and 145hp respectively in their standard states. So you can see there was a significant weight reduction (and all the handling and braking benefits that come with that) plus there was more power in a 1340cc bike engine. The Hayabusa is a third larger than the old Honda blackbird 1000cc or Yamaha R1 1000cc engines that found their way into various race cars and Caterhams over the years - that gives incremental torque benefits. By their nature bike engines are more stressed. A Hayabusa bike fully wet will weight around 570lbs. A fully wet Caterham with Duratec is say 1250lbs. So that is a lot more heifer to get rolling from standstill with a bike that is less torque and more power in nature on a gearbox that is not going to be as robust as a T-9 or other car gearbox. The car you identified as for sale is somehow in the USA. I expect the paperwork would show it was imported as a kit roller. No idea if it was complete and registered in Canada prior to import or if it left David's workshop as a kit. Likely does not matter now but there should be paperwork to show by the owner and that come with the purchase. Its the only one I know of in the US - all others are in Canada. It has been turbo'ed so now at a lot more hp - 260hp from memory? 1100lbs feels light - maybe rounded down - but not far off my expectation of 1150lbs fully wet. I followed a turbo Hayabusa Caterham in the UK at a track day....briefly....he disappeared very rapidly in the distance. It was a very quick beast. I expect the package would be quicker than my CSR. It will be a highly strung package. I expect engine and gearbox refreshes like every couple of thousand track miles. Jeff on this forum has a Radical and in between him taking out front splitters at every session he told me there was a 30 hour refresh cycle on the race engine. So that gets you 1 year of track time or about 1000-2000 miles on a race spec engine. A dialled back package should get you 3-5 times that. Maybe it is really dialled back to sleepy state but 10,000 mile refresh cycle is the absolute max I could envisage - happy to be proven wrong by someone else if they know better. A turbo is just another option to stress out a bike engine over manufacturer design limits. 30-50,000 miles is the refresh cycle on my Cosworth engine in the CSR. Its a really unstressed package and provided you are up on its maintenance it will be reliable. For contrast, a race spec one of these puts out another 100hp over mine and is refreshed every 1-2 years (2000 to 5000 miles). It likely does not have reverse or may have electric motor reverse. Bikes do not have reverse so you need to check that. It will be slower off the line than an equivalent car engine spec Caterham but that will reverse once rolling. I would be concerned about that stress on the transmission longevity. Indeed, in everything I read on Blatchat or other forums, the transmission is the first to break every time. Will be it fun? Duh! Of course! Does it meet all of your driving needs for road and track? Should do. Will it be turn key? Thats the question you need to work out.
  18. The CSR never stopped being sold in Switzerland and Australia for local homologation reasons. It disappeared from UK and US marketing. But you could order a CSR for US roller kit delivery all through the period when the US marketing materials were silent (aka giving the impression you could not order one). It was a special order not on the standard menu. There must have been good reasons for this - one day we may know. So the article is just bringing the chassis option out into the open. Not sure it is a reborn as much as bringing it back as a formal offering in the marketing materials.
  19. I came back for another look at the Elan...:leaving:
  20. That weight makes sense Shane since you did a ton (pun intended :jester:) of work to lighten the car...although it left the runway and got airborne just fine at its old heavier weight. :seeya:
  21. Geez Glen, I would not have picked you as ready for that. Don't tempt me with an Elan. Love those things.
  22. I know its expensive but its so sexy looking and no one else in the Stalker community has one. Think how special you would be. This was the realistic suggestion for sequential. I also feel confident it will fit. Just because no one has done it with a Stalker does not stop you from pushing the envelope. Definitely believe in dry sumps when having fun on track. Just checked his website and no Birkins for sale with him currently. Also reading the linked page below, he is not an official dealer in the eyes of Birkin USA. Official representation in USA and Canada is Tom Carlin through the following website. https://birkindirect-usa.com/about-us/ I am sure Birkin USA can explain status if you ask them. Hell yes. I have 9 inch rubber on the back of my Caterham and can make it go all squirrelly like the best. Add an LS engine and 1 extra inch of rubber on the rear end and you can take off and fly...literally. I suspect it probably needs even wider with that hp output and no aero. Difference is likely dry versus wet gas tanks. I always had it in my mind as 1750lb full tanks for the old V6SC Stalker and 1700plus change lbs for the LS version with full tanks. I could be wrong - an owner should chime in here with how much they weigh. If you are keen then you can check with Glen at Stalker since that number will be sensitive to final spec. You can buy small, light heater kits for any type of kit car here - surely one of those will work. If Caterham, Birkin and Westfield can make them work in a smaller package why can't Stalker. I bet they can. https://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/search?adv=false&cid=0&mid=0&vid=0&q=heater&sid=false&isc=true&orderBy=0 The square hole solution would also work. cheers mike
  23. No but he has considered the order options Likely will not happen since I have something else creeping along in the back of my mind. I want a Caterham at Spa - it would be more fun. Video of that already exists! A road spec Corvette ZR1 has done a 2min40 flying lap at Spa with a pro at the wheel. A RSR Porker GT3 did a similar time. My best in the 420R was 2min49 and there is more time to come off that with a better driver than me. The top version of the new Corvette should creep into the high 2min30s with the right driver. I still need to finish some of my basket case projects/money pits off so I can drive them again.
  24. The difference between 15 inch wheels and 13 inch wheels is extraordinary when compared back to back on track. I use 15 for road for ground clearance and the 13s just are amazing for pick up on track. Happy to demonstrate to disbelievers.
  25. Odometers on sevens are notoriously inaccurate (bodged connections, male builders, Westfield kits, bodged parts, wrong tire/wheel size for adapted part, etc.) so I took 20% off to allow for this knowing you built your Westfield. Its like the inaccuracy of a leak down test with a 2 inch open hole directly above number 1 cylinder... Oooh...no chance of missing on that target. I suppose we did drive it onto the trailer to get it to the friendly mechanic....
