  1. There are a few issues with the 2040-cars.com website, namely: (a) Sold cars are never removed (b) every so often you find cars sevens which are not actually for sale i.e. they are owned by a person I know who is not selling. There are 3 listed on the sevens page now. Scam sale or just a way to drum up some interest? © the prices for listings can be ridiculously out of line with markets which gives you the "is this genuine" suspicion. (d) the rest of the website has not been updated since 2014. Some people may have had success with it but I found it too sketchy for my liking.
  2. Congratulations on your purchase. You bought through the Vintage Race Car Sales - Kim Baker. I saw the ad surface and it caught my eye for a bunch of reasons - turbo, polished ali, metal front and rear wings, etc. Its a striking looking car. Looks like you will need to let the snow melt before you really try out the driving experience!
  3. Great idea Duane as I am not familiar with that website. NEW This ad is for a car in Switzerland based on a Caterham CSR. You would not be able to import this to the US but it is a striking rethink of a seven. 4. Thats a name in wheels I have not heard of in a while - good to hear they are still around. The only person with 13x10 wheels on a Caterham that I know of is Yellowss7. Ping him with a PM if he does not react in the next 24 hours. Not sure why you would want that wide but I guess cold weather autocrossing?
  5. I am not sure discussing title washing on a public forum is a great idea...for the record it is a legal no no. For my 2004 yellow SVT zetec, it used the Ford ECU that had OBDII and had the standard intake. It used to throw error codes - transmission, evap, and fuel tank - three things different on a Caterham compared with a Ford Focus. I am not sure what specific Ford model ECU it was but it came out of a Ford Focus - easy enough to work backwards.
  6. Welcome! 6'4" is easy. Blubarisax on this forum is 6'8" and we got him into an SV. Secret was lowered floors and a "taller" roll bar. Also going to a bead resin custom seat gave another inch headroom over the standard leather or tillet seats.
  7. Since when did NH, the land of the free, go with mandatory OBDII? Paul - how did you get your Birkin on the road when you were living there?
  8. This is one time you don't want to use the website. Give them a call. They both know what a Caterham is but websites do not even begin to understand the complexity of premium rate tables that are approved for use by that insurer. A conversation with all the facts should 80% of the time get you a better price quote than a website with the same company.
  9. Forget GEICO - they are just giving you the basic state minimum insurance pack - no protection for your car or any personal liability. They will depreciate the insured value over time. You want agreed value insurance - so Hagerty, AMIG, Grundy, etc. Check the fine print - insurance needs to cover the value of the car if it is stolen, written off or otherwise lost. You need to make sure the liability limit is at least equal to whatever personal excess liability cover kicks in at. The exclusions should be minimal. You need to re-quote AMIG as they have not quoted you comprehensive agreed value insurance. Hagerty's price surprises me especially in NH - I would double check that. You should ask who the insurance company is that is issuing the policy. Hagerty (like Grundy) is a managing general agent - not an insurance company. So they rely on insurance companies to support their ability to sell policies. Also try American Collectors https://americancollectors.com/ Insurance is just a legal form of gambling. The price quotes reflect which insurance company got hit with a lot of losses recently on a collector car market in New Hampshire.
  10. Thats the understatement of the week!
  11. Pets can be dangerous. I think this is the upper steering column you want https://caterhamparts.co.uk/columns/127-quick-release-steering-boss-and-column.html?search_query=steering+column&results=83 Your existing wheel may just bolt on - you may need a new steering wheel and column connector though. I suggest you wait until your car arrives then once you have a visual on the car, give Caterham Parts in the UK a call, talk through what you want to do and they will help you order what you need. They will send it pretty quick. The other US dealer with spares is Bruce Beachman in PNW. No website - just call him. I like the old fashioned approach. This is the Caterham solution. You can still pull out your upper steering column and attach the adapter like Shane did above. All the bits are here to achieve the result Caterham did.
  12. Quick update today since I am getting a comprehensive spa* treatment this weekend - Some no lifting through Eau Rouge, an opposite lock through La Source and a high speed turn through Blanchimont in a nice new Caterham 420R will make me as good as new with no wrinkles or bags under the eyes. May need new underwear though given the temperatures the 30s and cold tires.... 13. Its ok Chris, apology accepted - On a forum like this it is hard to see that I am the good looking one! :jester: For a Caterham you can buy a splined upper steering column with the correct momo wheel that connects right onto the lower steering column. That would be you easiest option - nicely plug and play. Personally I have never bothered about a removable wheel. I am slim and fit enough that I fit easily behind the wheel when climbing in. :leaving:

  21. Our cars are plug and play. So scrapping the car because of an engine issues seems extreme - I agree with Suave above. With that in mind then use the chance for a serious upgrade in performance. Options: 1) Why stop at just 2.3L...wimp! Bruce Beachman does a nice 2.5L Duratec option. 2) Dunnell used to have a proprietary ECU which is a big downside to my mind - not sure if that is still true but as an alternative maybe look at Raceline http://www.raceline.co.uk/ or Burton Power (p 14-15 of the catalog) for crate engines 3) While I have not, a number of forum members on the east coast have used Quicksilver race Engines http://quicksilverraceengines.com/services.htm 4) Do you have a Caterham? What about dropping the 620R powerplant into your chassis?
