To illustrate the track, here is a video of a modestly powered standard Zetec Caterham having fun on the Lightning track. Sound is bad sorry but it will give you an idea. You don't need a bulk hp car to have fun.
-
But then it builds up to the 15 degrees max. Throttle hard down and hang on for a fast ride out on to the main straight. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/111%20IMG_0973_zpsbrxu7keg.jpg The story behind the bowl banking as told by Don Fauerbach was the original plans showed a 5 degree banking. Carroll Shelby was a consultant to the project and when he looked at it his words were "Not enough f-ing pucker factor. Increase it to 15 degrees." Next day the bulldozer started grading to the new angle.
-
Then we get to the bowl. A brilliantly fun corner http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/108%20IMG_0972_zpshvm8oc01.jpg You come in fast to this corner and take it fast the whole way around. For me (in the silver car) around 105mph (give or take 5mph). The 15 degree banking helps as you can scrub speed off by going up the banking then build it again by dropping down for the exit. Ideal entry is left 1/3rd of the track before turning in. Just prior to entry there is the track seam (i.e. the starting point of where they laid asphalt for the track). This makes it bumpy just as you are trying for a smooth entry into the bowl. Our cars can carry a lot more speed into this corner than you think you can. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/107%20IMG_0971_zpsevkyifqu.jpg but if you get it wrong then you will unload the rear and spin.... http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/109%20IMG_0948_zpsszsn4sku.jpg Initially the banking is not that steep http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/110%20IMG_0950_zpsuerfble2.jpg

Then we get to Turn 5, a bit of a tricky one. Blind crest, apex at the top of the crest with the track dropping away sharply immediately after and sharp right. Turn in is at the beginning of the left hand side curbing. Ignore the orange cone - it was moved after Kitcat attacked it repeatedly. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/104%20IMG_0966_zpsy2hbsbu5.jpg If you get it right then the car sweeps around on to the back "straight". Challenging fun corner. If you get it wrong then you visit the Seven Sandpit. I lost count of those who went visiting this patch of sand and doing some "gardening" This is what they saw just before - love the skid marks! This was a safe exit - fence is a huge distance away so it is safe to run off to the grass here to avoid spinning in a blind corner. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/105%20IMG_0967_zpsx5glcuoo.jpg Turn 7 is a simple 90 degree left. Downhill entry. So simple yet so many spin here because they overcook it going in. Lots of favorable camber built in plus the "magic" curbs - grooved to give extra grip. I will own up to the tire mark going inside the curbing... http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/106%20IMG_0970_zps7ywchavn.jpg

http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/pp346/Meech355/Lightning-Map.jpg It is a very quick track. Ideally suited to momentum driving and our types of cars. Braking zone into turn one is initially downhill before a sharp up hill to the corner. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/100%20IMG_0963_zpsb5b9ixwx.jpg It is a blind corner where you cannot see the apex until the last minute. The car is light at the crest making it essential you know your line. I aim at the Benningans advertising sign down at turn 2 as that is the first thing I see as I crest. Notice the sand next to the curbing....lots of people miss this one and go wide...and...try to save it and end up kissing rubber on the right. Smart ones keep it on the track or bail left once they realize they have run out of talent. There is a LOT of run off here so use it if you need to. NJMP was built with safety in mind and there are large run off areas at various corners that are intended to be used if you get into trouble. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/101%20IMG_0964_zpsmcg94cy7.jpg Then you get into the turns 2, 3, and 4 esses - great fun as agility is essential. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/102%20IMG_0965_zpsdkjayzi4.jpg

Part 2 Pit Set Up Location If you are on my email list then you will have received two maps (PM me to get them otherwise). The first illustrates the layout of the NJMP complex, its two tracks, karting facility, Pit Suites for overnight accommodation, General Store and Finish Line Pub. The second map shows the Lightning circuit and marks out where the USA7s group has been allocated pit space to set up and congregate. However, in prior years we have tended to range along the back of the paved pits where the grass begins. Both are acceptable. The NJMP facility has 24 hour gated and patrolled security and is a secure place to leave your trailers and cars overnight. As you enter NJMP you will be required to stop at the main gate to show identification. Please let the security workers know that you are participating in the Drivers Club Event at Lightning. After the security check you will want to turn RIGHT to go past the clubhouse and on to the Lightning Circuit pits. It is a long drive around the outside of the Lightning Circuit until you see the bridge into the center of the circuit. When setting up on the pit asphalt please be aware that paddock regulations require jack stands to have timber or metal plate supports underneath to protect the asphalt from damage. Tom and I will be there setting up from early afternoon should anyone arrive early. An informal karting event is scheduled from 3.00pm to 4.30pm at the NJMP F1 Karting facility which adjoins the Lightning pit area. After the karting you can clean up and then congregate at the NJMP Club House where a full bar service and appetizers/dinner will be available for your purchase. We encourage you to bring a folding chair or other seating and shade for your time in the pits as there is no fixed or movable seating provided by the track. Welcome Pool Party BBQ (July 1) Given most people will be arriving the night before and setting up their trailers or otherwise prepping their cars, we will have an informal pool party BBQ at the NJMP Club House. A simple menu and drinks will be available for purchase at the event. If you will be arriving late then there are a number of fast food and other full service chain restaurants in Millville. Catering - Breakfast and Lunch on HPDE Days (July 2 and 3) Breakfast and lunches are included in your driver and guest fees paid at sign on. Breakfast will be held at the Lightning Pit Building where the classroom and pit garage are located. Lunch will be held at the Finish Line Pub a short drive from the pits. Refreshments (water, energy drink, soda) are complimentary throughout the day and are located in the ice tubs at the pit garage or the pit classroom. Dinner at Don Fauerbach’s Residence – July 2, 2016 This is an annual Drivers Club Event to which USA7s members attending this HPDE event have received an invitation. Held on Don’s lawn overlooking the river, it is a casual summer event with a good menu and drinks, catered by one of the leading Chefs in Millville. Refreshments provided include beer, soda and water. It is BYO wine/spirits. In addition to socializing with other Sevens drivers, you will have the chance to meet and chat with other Drivers Club members and spouses who share a similar interest to you in performance and exotic cars. This event is located approximately 20 minutes drive from NJMP. We plan to car pool from various locations (NJMP Pit Suites, Fairfield Inn, etc) and will arrange that during the day. Dress code for this event is tidy nice summer casual – collared short sleeve shirt, nice Hawaiian shirts and shorts or long pants for gents. Ladies are usually dressed nice summer casual. It is outside on a lawn so high heel shoes are not advisable unless ladies like being rescued by a nice gentleman. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/23%20WSPS-untitled-N.J.M.P.%20Drivers%20Club%20July%204th%20Track%20Day%20amp%20BBQ%20July%202015-0001_zpsbxttaxrc.jpg Dinner at the Finish Line Pub – July 3, 2016 We have booked the Breighton Room at the NJMP Finish Line Pub for our final night. The menu is a la carte ranging from salads to burgers/sandwiches to salmon and prime rib and desert offerings. It is designed that you pay for what you want to order for food and drinks. After dinner there will be a series of awards for the previous two days. You will need to pay for your food and drinks at the completion of dinner. Karting This is the event where your competitive spirit is encouraged to emerge. You will be racing for trophies and bragging rights. Guests and family members who wish to join in to show up Spouse/Father are definitely encouraged to do so. You do not need to be a HPDE sevens driver to participate in the karting event. The arrangement is a 10 minute practice followed by a 6 lap qualifier and and an 8 lap race. The karts are brand new for this year. The results of the practice/qualifying session will determine your grid position for the race that follows. Trophies will be awarded to first, second and third place from this race. Drivers must be a minimum of 14 years old. All minors 14 years old to 18 years old must have an executed 1 Minor Participant Guardian form or have a parent or legal guardian present. Drivers must be at least 5 ft. tall. All participants must wear closed toe shoes. Coaches can be made available to spouses who wish to beat their husbands/partners. The organizers will happily accept bribes for donation to charity to reduce the horsepower on the karts of your fellow competitors. Karting requires use of a full face helmet, driving suit and neck ring. If you have these then you are welcomed to use your own. If you have guests or family members who wish to join in then we encourage them to do so. NJMP can provide loaner helmets for the cost of $4 (to cover the use of a disposable balaclava for hygiene reasons) – paid on the day. Driving suits are included in the karting fee. NJMP will also provide neck rings if needed. To set expectations up front, the winner will probably be the lightest weight person given these karts have all the hp of a hair dryer. While ramming, pushing, punting or otherwise driving your fellow karting enthusiasts off track is not tolerated we understand many of you may not have full control of your kart at certain defined moments. All joking aside, you will need to be completely sober for this event – no exceptions. As a prize, first, second and third place getters buy drinks for everyone at the club house following the event! Please arrive at the karting facility at 3.00pm. Driving Format As we are participating in an NJMP Drivers Club event, we follow their specific rules of operations for tech inspection of cars and safety gear. We also follow their practices for on track behavior. We will have a Sevens session defined in the attached timetable for the day. Passing will be by invitation only. That is a passing car will need to receive a point by by the car being passed. No point by then no passing. It is courteous for drivers to monitor their rear vision mirrors and let cars past promptly. Passing zones are defined at the straights, i.e. between: · between turns 1 and 2, · between turns 4 and 5 (if you are quick), · between turns 5 and 7 · between turns 7 to 9 (i.e. up to the entry into the bowl · turns 9 (bowl exit) to turn 1 (i.e. along the main straight) Passing in the turns is not acceptable. No passing in the braking zones. Given sevens have such remarkable cornering and braking skills it is unlikely that passing cars should be held up for any length of time if drivers of slower cars monitor their mirrors and point by promptly. These rules are intended for your safety and if followed should prevent car to car contact. Accommodation There are a range of lodging options at all budgets in Millville and nearby Vineland. There are also Pit Suites on the NJMP site. We eoncourage you to book early as Millville is a popular spot for people to stay when visiting the Jersey Shore in summer. Camping is available at NJMP by permit along with power hookups for RV with a fee. See the NJMP website for details: http://www.njmp.com/facility-rentals-and-amenities/ Contact NJMP can be reached at (856) 327-8000. After hours the main switchboard may not be answered. In this event you should call the Main Gate security office on (856) 327-7255. Tom Gaval can be reached at cell phone (610) 715-5687. The session times are subject to finalization and a schedule for that day will be handed out each daily drivers briefing. NJMP Location The GPS address of NJMP is 8000 Dividing Creek Rd., Millville, NJ 08332 When driving to NJMP it is strongly recommended that you exit off Rt 55 at Exit 24 (Rt 49) as this route option avoids trailers having to make a sharp right turn in downtown Millville. While the signposts on Rt55 to NJMP will say you should use exit 27 we do not recommend this option because of the difficulty you will have navigating the tight right turn in downtown Millville. If you are staying at the Fairfield Inn (next to Exit 27) and trailering then we would also recommend returning to Rt 55 to head south to Exit 24. Event Requirements Driver’s License: All Drivers must have a valid Driver’s License and be at least 18 years of age to participate. You will be asked to present your Driver’s License at the track. If you have not run at this event previously then prior to registering you will need to submit a driving resume on past track experience. This will be shared with NJMP track management prior to the event. Please bring and be prepared to show any race license you have obtained in order to verify your experience. For those who are new to HPDE driving then please contact Tom or myself and we can work through the options to let you participate safely as a driver. Helmet Requirement: A Snell M or SA rated full faced helmet dated 2005 or newer is required for all drivers and passengers on the track. Open face helmets are not permitted in open cars like sevens. Arm restraints: NJMP requires open top cars to be driven on track with drivers and passengers both wearing arm restraints and full faced helmets. Attire: NJ State Law requires all participants on the track to wear long pants and close toed shoes. No one in shorts will be permitted to enter the race track or pit lane. Tech: A tech inspection is required for each car prior to accessing the race course. An NJMP official will tech your car the morning of the event, but please view the tech form prior to then in order to be sure your car is adequately prepared. The tech form is emailed to you if you are on my email list. Contact me for it otherwise. Open Top Cars: Must have approved rollover protection. Pop up roll bars or detachable hard tops are not accepted by NJ State Law. Speed Limits: Speed limit in the paddock is 5 mph. Speed limit on access roads is 25 mph. Do not test vehicles or bed brakes on infield roads. For non-racing events, the pit lane speed limit is 20 mph. Participants, including Drivers Club Members and their guests, are responsible for any damage to NJMP property including on track and off track. This includes damage to Armco and tire wall barriers should you hit them (please don’t!) or for the white powder to soak up oil and coolant spills on track. Noise: Un-Muffled engines must not be run before 8:30 a.m. or after 6:30 p.m. NJMP strives hard to keep good relations with the local community and we should support their initiatives by complying. Fuel: For the convenience of customers, New Jersey Motorsports Park houses fuel stations at both the Thunderbolt and Lightning Raceways. On most track days the fuel stations are open from 8:30am to 3:30pm. The fuel station at Thunderbolt Raceway offers octanes of 93 & 100 (unleaded) and 110 & 112 (leaded), while the station at Lightning Raceway offers 93 & 100 (unleaded) and 110 (leaded). The fuel stations are permitted to fill containers in proper five gallon red fuel cans only, per New Jersey State Law. Larger fuel containers of 10 gallons or more (any color) are permitted to be used as long as they are marked appropriately (stickers or writing on container that reads “FUEL”). General Store: The NJMP facility has a convenient General Store open during days. It sells refreshments (including beer), ice, driving equipment (helmets, boots, driving suits), oils, some tools, safety gear and other related items. It is located on the ground floor of the Officers Club in the pit area of the Thunderbolt track. The General Store is run by the lovely Diane who is extremely skilled in extracting non-essential purchases of race gear, tools, and other interesting motoring themed souvenirs. You have been warned! Trailer Drops: Trailer drops are typically allowed from 7-10 pm the night before. However, there are occasions when this is not possible due to events taking place at the facility. At this stage there are no events scheduled at Lightning the day of our arrival but we will alert you should that change. Please keep in mind that NJMP Drivers Club Member Days are not a racing event but rather a Driver Education day. You will learn how to handle and control your vehicle at high speeds as well as explore the capabilities as a driver and those of your vehicle. At no time will you be pushed or encouraged to go any faster than is comfortable for you. All participants are organized into run groups based on experience, skill, and type of vehicle. Non-driving Visitors: Non-driving visitors are required to be registered by NJMP. There is space on the registration pages. The fee for non-driving visitors covers all refreshment, breakfast and lunch. It also provides privileges to accompany NJMP accredited/approved instructors in sevens as a passenger. Passengers are required to have paid the daily visitor fee and comply with the safety requirements of drivers – helmet, arm restraints, and clothing/shoes. A limited number of helmets/arm restraints will be available to borrow should you not have one. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/WSPS-untitled-N.J.M.P.%20Drivers%20Club%20July%204th%20Track%20Day%20%20BBQ%20July%202015-0002_zps47g2huhc.jpg

Bingo - Montana, Dave and Birkin was only ever going to lead to one person! The former owner's profile name is Davemk1 - obviously for Dave. He is active on USA7s with his new Westfield seven. There are 2 threads on your husband's car including photos The intro thread http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?751-Montana-Birkin&highlight=sale And the for sale thread - this will help you write the ad. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?4204-1999-Birkin-S3&highlight=sale It was a well loved and sorted car with a decent specification. All we need now is to find out what modifications your husband made that could improve the value. I know shocks are expensive based on a set I bought so that is one. Engine work to improve the power is two. I have friends in Scarborough ME (I used to live in Portland - in the Old Port!) that I can ask for remote help if needed here. I am due to visit them in early June if things drag out that far. -
I guess my plan to sneak some nice British ale into the Kessler is a bit of a waste until you get off those painkillers. Once the dust has settled from relocating and the initial rush of visitors is over I plan to stop by and say hello.

Please accept my sympathies for the loss of your husband. Its clearly a difficult time for you dealing with the estate issues when your mind is probably elsewhere. You have not given much to go on with here for constructing a value or even a potential ad so that you get the right value out of the sale. These cars are so individual and customized in spec that their value can move significantly based on a few choice options. My guess is it will sit between $19-25k with the final price being dependent on the spec. I am going to ask some questions to see if we can help discern the specifications better to price it more fairly. 1) Which state is it titled in and what is it titled as? 2) I guess it has the 2L Zetec engine. Do the receipts say what work was done to increase/improve power? More hp = high value for the most part. 3) I am pretty sure it will have the Ford Sierra T-9 5 speed gearbox. I don't know 4) Some photos of the engine bay, front, side, rear will help us see what options were added. Two options for adding photos - upload them onto a free photo bucket account website or size them so you can just upload them here (they don't allow big uploads on this site). If all else fails you can email me the photos and I can host them on my site and post them on this forum. 5) Do you know who he bought it from (was it a dealer or private individual without revealing name) and which state. We may be able to find it on this forum through its past owner. 6) Are all pieces on the car or are there bits and spares not installed but stored in the garage. These are worth money if they are listed out in an ad. Clearly the Birkini top is one of them. 7) Did he do any competition with the Birkin? Some of these modifications are costly and worth spelling out to a potential purchaser. I am not sure if anyone from the club is local to you to read the various invoices/receipts and assemble together what the spec is? Tom Carlin of Birkin America is located in Eagle CO if that is anywhere near you. If no one is local to you then let me know in a Private Mail on this forum, I can arrange a phone call where you can read the receipts out for me over the phone and I can assemble it in writing that you can use for the forthcoming ad. No fee or cost - just trying to help the seven community. When it comes time for selling, these cars are somewhat unique. They may take longer to sell than a regular car since purchasers are fewer. The best places for advertising them are: - an ad on this USA7s forum - EBay - Hemmings (under the Lotus 7 category) These get the best spread of coverage across the country for potential purchasers. Hope this helps mike -

Not sure who you were directing your comment at, but for the record I agree with you. A potential purchaser must make the effort to inspect in person before purchasing. My first US seven was rubbished on this forum when it came up for sale but I ended up buying it at a good price and doing a bit of sorting so it became a great car. While a seven may have had a difficult build by TMW it is the actions of the owner post-TMW that determine how good and well sorted it ends up or whether it is still flawed. Inspection will clarify. At the price the Birkin in question is being offered at I am smelling an opportunity for a buyer. However, an inadequately detailed ad or an ad with stupidly high pricing will get a pithy response from me because it (a) shows a seller does not care, (b) is lazy, and/or © is trying to pull a quick one over some unsuspecting buyer. If they will do that in an ad then it does the car for sale a disservice. However, I know not every seller agrees with me as I have 3 cease and desist legal letters in the last year (all from dealers) from my comments on this thread to prove it. -

I would email the Birkin seller to see if you can do a deal offline at $22k or lower. 2014 build, Duratec IRS, and full cage - it meets your spec. The price seems ballpark fair given it is a 2014 car with the Duratec and IRS. The transmission leak is a bit of work but its hard enough to find a car that is close in spec to begin with. Tom will help you fix the transmission! Not sure if you are looking at a further price adjustment given the shipping cost from west coast? I get that. You can wait for the seller to drop but then you risk losing the deal because $22k is within the range someone will consider is fair. There is a non-road Caterham in NJ that could be for sale sub-20s (SCCA spec, cage, zetec, T-9) but it is aesthetically challenged since it is exclusively a track car that needs a lot of work to be street registered. I know another two older street Caterhams in the north east/mid atlantic that will be up for sale later this year but neither of those meet your spec plus their value is much higher (29-34k area guessing?) than the money I think you are looking to spend. The places to consistently look for a seven for sale: - here - Fleabay - Craigslist - Autotrader - classiccars.com - Lemmings - Texas Motor Works - Dick Brink's site is still going - Tony Vaccaro's Loony site - Caterhams and original Lotus sevens only. There are other classic car dealers than pop up from time to time but they are hit or miss for availability. -
Actually I think Tom is your better bet! :jester:

I can lend a set of 16 inch wagon wheels! :svengo: Or maybe the 12 inch wide BBS wheels in gold with Avon slicks for the Beemer. Or some 10 inch wide Corvette Grand Sport wheels from the Holden?

The Lotus 7 replica previously shown photographed with the hearses is back. Apparently two prior sales failed due to one instance of shady behavior and on the second, an inability to get it registered in Massachussetts (no surprise there). Glad to know we all drive sevens with Land Rover engines? Current bid is $11999 with 4 days to go and reserve not met. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lotus-Super-Seven-r-500-/322066555709?forcerrptr=true&hash=item4afca9a33d:g:QAYAAOSwQYZWt4Fz&item=322066555709 Dealer Lotus 7 S4 back at $33k http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lotus-Super-Seven-S4-/272137610661?forcerrptr=true&hash=item3f5caa65a5:g:DiMAAOSwDuJWzznz&item=272137610661 I would have thought some copyright issues existed for this Atom kit...sorry Altra kit? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Replica-Kit-Makes-Altra-/281993128508?forcerrptr=true&hash=item41a819aa3c:g:6PkAAOSwr7ZW5588&item=281993128508 The ad says it is a "Lotus 7/Caterham" http://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/cto/5526055933.html Here is the Westfield ad again, the one advertised in TX that looks to be in FL, that Mr Mustang found. Asking $15000 https://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/5529005762.html The extra details in this ad are welcomed. This next one is interesting. Looks to be some form of Locost. The photos looks like Triumph front suspension? Not the best images to work with. The competition history is evident by the stickers on the backside. http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/5529470725.html Another Locost in Baltimore Asking $8500 which looks a better deal than the $6000 priced one above. http://baltimore.craigslist.org/cto/5519588422.html -

Maybe it is but I cannot access your link for some reason. It wants me to register and I have enough car website registrations as it is. Why don't you buy it? You would like a seven to drive this summer! -

Have a linky on me :seeya: http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/5529005762.html Looks like it was freshly imported through the over 25 year rule. I bet it is not titled/registered to save the seller the fees/sales tax which a buyer now has to pay. Check that all of the requisite stamped import paperwork comes with the car otherwise you cannot get a title. In at least one state I can think of the importer needs to be the person titling so it won't work with a new buyer. Despite that I like the look of the car - nice color scheme of blue and gray. In one photo there is another seven in the background. Looks like a Robin Hood or GBS? I guess it will be up for sale shortly. -
Friday April 22? Thats a Drivers Club date I think? I was hoping to run the Mustang that day. If it is Saturday April 23 then I think that is a regular NJMP track day that I get instructor accreditation for and join you with the mic and headphones kit. If not then we can get Tom down to join in.

 Actually I did try to install one of those fire poles for sliding down from the loft but the city would not let me have it because of the open hole up in the loft. I was going to call that the stripper pole! Oh well....best of intentions!
