The BAT model tracking data is too short a time period to draw trends and the spec so heavily influences pricing that BAT has a meaningless random scatter plot. Lotus 7 and Caterham have to be considered separately as they have separate depreciation curves (i.e. the Lotus is fully depreciated and now in the classic value upswing phase while most 1985 on Caterhams are still in the depreciation down swing phase. Hagerty has similar tracking data going over a longer period - much better analysis although BAT will get there with time. I have a spreadsheet variation of the theme from the Ebay/Craigslist thread going back to when it started (yes I am a failed actuary). The big thing evident is prices are consistently trending down. While the original Lotus 7 seems to have plateaued/tracked inflation unless it is ultra restored and impeccably validated (extremely rare) in which case prices have risen, the rest - Caterham, Birkin, Westfield, or Stalker - have trended down. Not precipitously but still evident. Why? A couple of reasons: 1) The pound has dropped so new Caterhams/Westfields are much cheaper like 20-30% area although inflation increases offset that 2) The dollar strengthened against the Rand so Birkins are holding fairly consistent in price 3) There is far more supply out there on the market from the last few years of sales 4) I think demand has stayed constant while the supply has increased - this market is a niche market and not a mainstream market. It requires some level of minimum wealth to afford a second "man toy" car. There are probably other reasons but I recommend we get out and just drive! :driving:

Tillets can be hit or miss depending on your body. I hate them because of a broken tailbone so the back pain rules them out for me. Others think they are fantastic. You can buy them direct in the US from Tillet but I would suggest you try them on first. If you want the Caterham seats then you can try Bruce Beachman (Caterham dealer PNW) as he keeps a range of spares or may have old ones handy. The other dealers don't have the same spares range from my experience (but by all means give them a call and try) and it still may be cheaper to buy direct from the UK (they are UK made and US dealers buy through Cat UK and then ship them so the likely math is obvious). I can only think of a handful of times in the last 10 years when they came up for sale on the forum as second hand resales.

I recall there was a similar outcry 2-3 years ago when the Texas DMV did a similar punitive action on Ariel Atoms, rescinding titles and registration and banning them from the street. Hi Ben, Do you want tires for the 13 inch wheels you are buying? Then I would think seriously about the Avon ZZS which has more of a street bias than the ZZR and was a replacement for the CR500. They are light compared to their competition and we are all focused on reducing weight. The Avons are always in-stock available from Roger Krause in CA - delivered to your door. I have never had a supply issue. He supplies all my tires for all my cars despite him being on the wrong side of the country to me. If you still have doubts then just phone them with the wheel sizes and ask them to give you the range of tire they would recommend. That has turned up some really good options for me in the past that I would never have thought of.

No not Mr Clean but a Roomba. I have three of these in the garage mahal - 1 upstairs and 2 downstairs. Work brilliantly. Yes you do have to rescue them from time to time as they get stuck under oily sumps (BMW CSL, Zetec Caterham), under a low muffler (Caterham CSR), or hung up on a radiator (yellow Rover K series Caterham), or even under a leaky oil tanker...sorry 65 Mustang differential. Cats absolutely love them. But it saves me so much time. I can be productive doing absolutely nothing while these bad bois are sucking hard. Besides, can you really see yourself asking your wife "Honey...can you clean my garage?" I also went downstairs at the office and Martha was not there today (genuinely not there) but I hit up the team there who are working on my office relocation (her girls and her guys who might-as-well-be-or-are-girls) to ask what good garage projects they had anything on. It shows the dirt like nothing else. I should have chosen one of the darker variegated finishes. I now use a Hoover wash and vac cleaner with cleaning fluid and thinners in it to clean things up - works well.
