  1. @papak wins the shiniest Birkin the world. Love the mirror finish you have obtained on your car!
  2. Calling @bball7754 to the forum. He owns the shiniest Caterham in the world!
  3. Eeek! That is more involved than I thought it would be. Bit surprised to hear the honeycomb has to come out - interesting. The sponge is fire retardent foam. So yes that would stop an in-tank pump from working. Edited to add: Kitcat has a very different installation from the Caterham fuel cell. Far more bespoke and professional than the average Caterham given it was originally built for a 24 hour race.
  4. Definitely there are Caterhams around the US with fuel cells. No one ever documented the installation to my knowledge. If you feel uncertain about doing it yourself, a good race shop could help. If you are still in existing 420 engine spec then why not reuse the in tank fuel pump? Its a solution that works and saves you money of buying something extra.
  5. Josh knows his stuff, I would ask him for ideas and get him to do it. I am sure he will have seen something suitable. I found a photo of what I did on the old Zetec to protect it - just for ideas
  6. It is definitely congratulations and a great achievement. I certainly have a greater appreciation than most on how big a challenge Ross overcome. Driving old cars long distances is not always the most relaxing... Best thing is that it was done for a great cause - Round Up River Ranch for Children. Over $20,000 was raised by Ross for a great cause. Its not to late to donate.
  7. Welcome to USA7s! 13 inch wheels are preferable. Lighter weight overall and most importantly, less unsprung weight. The difference is very noticeable in any form of driving - road or track. @Davemk1 said it best earlier - nicer ride plus the rolling diameter is essentially the same. I also find the extra tire sidewall helps communicate better what the car is doing as you push on. A dry sump is a good idea for ground clearance irrespective of which size wheel you choose. I know all about rough roads - the frost bumps and potholes - the devils breed where I live. You will always have to drive defensively and you know this. A thicker rubber sidewall of a 13 inch wheel is better protection than the 15 inch low profile wheels, where an impact is is more likely to take out a wheel and a tire on the 15 inch wheel while only damaging the tire on the 13 inch. You can definitely do a sump guard. On a former car of mine I had an angled piece of diamond plate that would skip the engine/car over the bump if I had the misfortune to hit it. There are other types of similar guards that can be adapted for the bellhousing (Caterham used to sell one) that will hang down about 1 or so inches below the level of the dry sump, although this is a less risky area than the sump as it is further back in the car and so the front suspension will have had a fraction more time to respond to the bump you hit and start lifting the car. cheers mike
  8. @fastg Thanks Graham. It has been for sale for so long I was ignoring it. The new price update shows the ad was still live.

  10. Hi Daniel @TurboWood I don't have the specs of what Bruce has done with the fuel pump sorry. Hopefully he will chime in here. He would have a readymade solution for the fuel pump based on some of his other customer cars. The diff support or the diff itself? The CSR diff is now held in a cage like structure that is and integral part of the chassis. Previously, like my 2010 chassis CSR, it was a 2 point brace which was upgraded to include the extra 2 race struts. That works well but you always have to check torque on the bolts as part of the annual spanner check since they like to come undone. The CatKong diff is a sierra housing but with Tracsport internals. Great company in the UK. The internals can handle the power. Quite a few Caterham owners on USA7s have bought from Tracsport over the years - I have never heard of a problem.
  11. Just some clarification. Zetec and Duratec Caterhams usually have a J1962 plug that is the same as OBD2 cars. However, Caterhams are not OBD2 with one exception. The J1962 plug will give CAN data out for a Caterham but that is not OBD2. You will need something like Easimap or an AIM Solo II to read the CAN data. The one exception for a Caterham with OBD2 is some regular Zetecs and SVT Zetecs used the Ford Oak model ECU. This was just a regular black box, no labels - at least not on my former yellow SVT zetec. This would give OBD2 results off a scan tool albeit with faults e.g. emissions, fuel tank, etc. Best way to find out is try @fastg Graham's suggestion with a scan tool.
  12. Calling @xcarguy If he does not chime in here, send him a PM
  13. Not the greatest of service from Autosparks - they should be able to provide you a diagram. I consider that essential if you buy a wiring harness. Sorry to hear that you have been getting the run around on this. I assume you bought this Lotus Seven Wiring Harness Set (autosparks.co.uk) The photo does not look inspiring! Autosparks does say it is a like for like replacement the but the issue with that is that 1) your car has been modified over time and 2) there was no one wiring harness - things got changed based on parts availability, bright ideas, etc. If you did modifications, there are technical guides here Modification Documentation (autosparks.co.uk) But I bet you did not bother with any mods based on your original harness description? You have compared what you have bought from Autosparks to these two diagrams from the technical library section of this site? Loom with tacho.pdf So at this point my approach, if I were in your shoes, would be to lay out the harness on a big board and then using the color code from the wire color chart guide, try to eliminate the obvious using a tester to trace main and trace feed. Finding a good specialist auto electrician local to you and presenting this problem to him would also be a viable option - they deal with these types of problems daily. 15. @TurboWood Hi Daniel - Bruce B and I were on the same mind as this - it was not even a point of discussion. The standard Caterham fuel pump on a CSR 260 is somewhat marginal. It comes off a P-O-S Rover with a with a 1.4L engine. Details here: Caterham CSR260 Fuel Pump - General Tech - USA7s It was never designed for the higher hp application in a 2.3L CSR 260 and with the upsize to a 2.5L and substantially more hp, an upgrade was always on the cards. I have never checked if the 620R uses the same pump, my bet is not. @Bruce K Hi Bruce - Consider being called by nom de plume, a sign of flattery. You can always stay a USA7s member with a Lola T-70. Ownership of a T-70 demonstrates style, panache, and above all, good taste in automotive equipment. A 6L V8 will grow hair on your chest amongst other bodily places. And I would also point out that you will have an aeroscreen installed, equal to a Brooklands in my book. This is a whole another world of fast, even based on your car history listed in your signature. It will be your fastest car ever, not as much aero as it needs and brakes will need some care. I will be interested to hear your reactions after a proper drive!

  17. This thread is timely - I just started shopping for a new garage floor. My old one was done 6-7 years ago and has not held up as well as expected. It was a granitex polyaspartic 1 day curing surface. Looked good intiailly in a light/med gray but has discolored badly over time, shows scrapes easily and has marked up from hot tires . The textured surface makes it difficult to clean short of hand scrubbing thinners with a stiff brush, and that does not even work well. First thing I have learned, dont use textured surfaces as they are not any more resilient than smooth and a bear to clean. Second thing I learned from discussions yesterday is the urethane surfaces have higher temperature resistance than epoxy which has a lower melt point. Not sure if this is really important but I do drive off track and into the garage with hot tires. @papak Why did you rule out tiles?
  18. Someone had a huge grin in one photo and that says it all! Have fun!
  19. The analogy I have always used when arguing at DMVs is that a Caterham is no different to a Cobra replica and if a DMV thinks a Cobra replica presents no problems, then why are there issues with a Caterham? DMVs seem to have a sensitivity around Cobra replicas, probably because the high social media potential for negative publicity if they can no longer be registered. Bureaucrats hate being exposed to career risk.
  20. Congratulations on delivery. Great workspace for the build! I think you are going to have fun!
  21. Seb - Someone in garage 6 at M1 Concourse has a Caterham. Track tag buddy for you? M1 Concourse – Private Garage Community
  22. That's excellent news Seb! @SK400 You should become a member of M1 Concourse and then we can visit you and drive the track. M1 Concourse – M1 Motorsports Club Only 1 hour from Ann Arbor in Pontiac, MI. The cheapness of the real estate in MI compared with your current waterfront mansion on Long Island Sound means that you can easily afford this plus buy a luxury garage at the M1 Concourse site to keep your automotive toys. Am I helping yet? Also gives me a chance to try out Gingerman raceway about 2 hours away. Will you be around for the September event at NJMP? I am still hoping to see the mano a mano between You, Simon @simon450 and John @John Bnow that the power differential has been closed.
  23. Bureaucracy can be frustrating at the best of times, especially with DMVs. There are enough CA people on USA7s with se7ens registered in the state via SB100 that one will be along shortly to answer.
  24. @Bartman Looks like congratulations are in order for you getting a se7en you are happy with! Well done!
