  1. I just recently got a TACK cam from raceoptics. I have 2 mounts for it a suction and a rollbar mount. The suction mount is loose and rattles when the car is running. With the rollbar mount the cam picks up noise from the rollbar. The cam has the option to use an external mic. Anyone know of a good place to that will pick up the exhaust and not very much wind noise? I'm planning on padding the rollbar mount a bit and retrying it. But will probably replace the suction mount w/ a Delkin Devices Fat Gecko double suction cup mount. Anyone w/ other mount suggestions?
  2. +1 on the coil. It sounds like an ignition issue, spark not strong enough at higher rpms.
  3. Any autoparts store should be able to test the battery for you.
  4. I have an 04 Caterham SV w/ a zetec svt, stock ecu. It backfires the same way. The previous owner Mike aka Croc tried to get it tuned out but apparently it had to do something w/ emissions. Croc would be able to explain it better if you have any questions. I seem to get around ~25mpg but I drive short distances and my NJ to AK drive had a lot of fuel w/ ethanol in it.
  5. Thanks for all the help. I followed up on the focusfanatics tip and just sent in a payment for the valve cover and sparkplug cover for $42 shipped. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to arrive.
  6. Thanks for the heads up. I just pm'ed that owner to see if he still has the cover. I'm not looking for a water tight cover just something to keep the water down. I didn't like it when I saw how much water collected in the holes when I changed out the sparkplugs. Hmm that reminds me, I should put some dielectric grease in the boots to keep some of the water out.
  7. Thanks croc. I saw those but they don't look like they seal against water very well. The first would fit, but the 2nd would need trimming.
  8. I used a DEI 010391 Reflect-A-GOLD 12"x 12" Sheet off of amazon. I put it on the engine side of the footbox. It cut down a noticeable amount of heat, but now I notice the heat coming off the transmission.
  9. For parts source I used http://www.burtonpower.com/ shipping from the UK to Alaska wasn't too bad ($10), but I only ordered a couple speedo seals.
  10. Cool Vid! Thanks for sharing.
  11. I had to replace my rear exhaust hanger and didn't realize the bolt threads on the new one were different. Did a quick run to home depot wo the rear pipe on and was suprised how much louder it was. So I think I might just end up keeping the rear exit and see if I can get it bent for clearance when I have the exhaust off for rewelding.
  12. I know the vw has been used in a lot of kits but wouldn't that make the engine placement wrong or fwd? Also when they ask the price and I say 35 they think $3500, not $35K. The guy w vw comment almost had a heart attack when I said that. I've given rides to a few people who ask for them. Pretty much all of the enjoyed the ride. I'd say the oddest comments would be coming from my cousin asking if the 7 had an auto trans or a sound system. But also said I should add wire wheels and more chrome. I don't mind wire wheels just not my taste and are pricy. Also had a couple younger guys (19 and 22) tell me to add a 8" sub in the 7. I think I've been asked if the 7 is a MG, austin healy, bughatti, but most know its a kit car.
  13. I've had a few people say that their truck could run right over my 7. Also had a fellow in a truck ask if it had a vw beetle drivetrain. Most people are nice but you get a few bad apples now and then.
  14. I just finished undoing the slip joints and moving the exhaust a bit. Now I have 1/2" clearance. Also noticed that the rear exhaust hanger rubber is cracked and that's probably why the exhaust moved. Croc gave me a spare so I'll probably change it out tomorrow. Took a closer look at the welds before and after the first o2 sensor and both have a crack going thru them. That's another thing to add to my winter to do list. I think I'll look around for a turndown since I want to go from 205 to 225 wide tires.
  15. Also interested in what other caterham owners w zetecs and rear exit exhaust did when going to wider rear tires. I just check the clearance is 1/4" and there's a shiny spot on the exhaust so it rubs a bit. I suppose I can cut it short and weld on a turndown. Or recycle the cut piece and cobble up something. Well forget about welding the exhaust I forgot its stainless steel and my mig isn't set up for gas. I might buy a 45deg piece of tubing and have my local muffler shop expand it out and use a clamp. Or have them weld it if they do SS.
  16. I ended up using the open end of a wrench since its straight and taped the allen in place w some duct tape.
  17. ihckb2-how did that muffler turn out?
  18. I just clicked the attachment for a larger view and it showed up fine.
  19. I haven't driven much during the night after putting in the hellas. They are a bit brighter but the major change was when I reaimed the headlights higher. They were aimed a bit low and I left unsafe driving over 40 in pitch black conditions.
  20. dallasdude- let me know if you can get a spark plug cover. I just recieved a reply from Tousley Ford and they can't get the discontinued part.
  21. Thanks mike. Wish I had it right now. Feels like there's monsoon outside right now.
  22. dallasdude- Thanks for the tip. I'll try giving him a call when I have time. Working 6 days a week and the timezone difference makes it a bit hard tho. Do they happen to have a website or an email contact?
  23. athens7- Thanks for the advice and the pic. The local ford dealer closed down a couple years ago. I'll try asking a relative out of town to see if he can order me one.
  24. Can't seem to find a svt spark plug cover online. Only the regular zetec covers pop up. Anyone have a svt cover laying around that they don't need? Trying to keep water out of the the spark plug area. If I can't get an svt one I might try modifying a regular zetec cover to clear the vct sensor.
  25. I recently purchased a 7 in April 19 and have driven it everyday except for 6 days when it was pouring down rain and I was waiting on my full weather top to arrive. I've gotten used to putting on and taking off the top when the weather changes. Got it down to around 3 mins. Trick is to unzip the rear window when setting up the hood sticks. It helps to be flexible when getting in and out w the top on. I have a microfiber towel to clear the windows when they fog up on rainy days. I still need to get around to sealing the various water leak areas in the footbox. That said I usually only drive less than 10 mi to work and back. Detours on the way home depend on mood and weather.
