  1. Can't you rent a big enough U-Haul box van and just use ramps to put it inside?
  2. I used to have a fluke multimeter accessory kit when I was an auto mechanic. Very handy when you don't have enough hands. Also helps if your meter has a min/max function so you don't have to watch it. The oil residue from the radiator could be left over from the manufacturing process. You can also try pressurizing the cooling system and listen for hissing from the oil filler and dipstick. Good progress on the 7. Wish my upgrades were going as well (I've been stalled for a month waiting for parts and machining work).
  3. Also might be cheaper to make a custom wiring harness. At least you can use more modern connectors. Rock auto, 1971 pinto, for sparkplug wires ($2.75), coil ($9.71), valve cover gasket ($3.63). Also check your distributor and cap. Also could use a universal fan and a radiator from car that has something similar sized w/ the inlet and outlet in the correct positions.
  4. Do those carbs have rubber seal or fuel floats? Might need to rebuild them too. http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/ is a good place for the headlights and turn signals, but someone might have some extras laying around. Chart for k&n filters that might fit. Is the valve cover stamped steel or cast aluminum? Unless its warped the heat shouldn't have damaged it too much. Will probably need to check the valve cover seal.
  5. Found one on ebay.
  6. caterham uk now sell abs fenders, so those are an option too.
  7. How many microns does your filter before the fuel rail filter? The foam particles might just be small enough to pass thru your filter. Also how's your fuel pressure? Might just be the fuel pump going bad. Mine had low pressure for a month before completely quitting.
  8. Try putting an in line fuel filter that has a reusable filter just before the fuel rail. Easier to clean/change out the filter than to get the injectors unclogged. Just add enough fuel hose so you can mount the filter for easy access.
  9. Use a voltmeter, take off belt and spin by hand?
  10. Have you tried race shops that deal w/ formula fords? They should be able to tune your carbs for you.
  11. Can't you add in a cat and get it nice and hot before doing the emissions test?
  12. What about places that offer free refills? Apparently grocery stores can't care drinks over 16oz too. What about the gallon containers of fruit juice that have a lot of sugar in them?
  13. Seems like there's only one shop in town that may be able to machine the gearset. Unfortunately most of the machining work is farmed down to Seattle or shipping costs are so high that its cheaper to get new parts. So it all depends on what the shop can do.
  14. ok thanks for the head up. EDIT: Just finished counting the teeth. Except for the 1st gear they are the same.
  15. Should have payed more attention to Cherik's webpage. Guess I'll look around for a willing machine shop.
  16. Ok stupid issue that I should have noticed earlier. The new counter shaft/lay shaft is the earlier style that uses needle bearings. The original is the later model that uses roller bearings. Is there a way to use the earlier style? I don't think I have a local machine shop that can bore out the earlier style to fit the new style roller bearings. Ah, looking around it seems I might be able to use an earlier style layshaft spindle. Would that work?
  17. How does the powerband compare to the old setup?
  18. For one thing its in Washington and getting it registered in NJ would be the main issue. I bought Croc's old seven and it has the de dion rear. I added more padding to the seat and it makes it more livable on long drives (750+mi). Short distances I wouldn't worry about it being a solild rear. I believe Brikins come w/ adjustable GAZ shocks you you'd be able to adjust to suit your preferences.
  19. Found some zetec supercharger kits. Plumbing will have to be modified to fit a 7 though. http://www.shopsupercharger.com/p-914-ford-focus-zetec-procharger-ho-intercooled-supercharger-tuner-kit-2000-2003-1fk202-sci.aspx http://www.shopsupercharger.com/p-915-ford-focus-svt-procharger-ho-intercooled-supercharger-tuner-kit-2000-2003-1fk302-sci.aspx http://www.fawcettperformance.com/product_info.php?products_id=405
  20. Just curious if anyone put in a wet nitrious set up on their 7. Seems to be the cheapest way to get some more hp for a track oriented 7.
  21. I also have some bearings, sychro cones, hd synchro inserts, and seals/gaskets. Got them together to save on shipping. Probably will replace the 2/3 synchro while I'm in there.
  22. ok I'll go get a 36mm since the 1 1/2" is just a bit large. I got the circlip off but it won't slide off easily. I'll try pushing the sychro back on (only managed to move it 1/4") and check the grooves. I got a 2.98:1 1st gear conversion kit from Burton back in 2011 and finally getting around to putting it in.
  23. Yeah I got that already it doesn't mention the nut size. I got a 1 1/2" socket and its slightly large. Right now I'm modifying a puller to get the 5th gear sychro off. The manual says to "slide the 5th gear sychro off" and its not happening even w some heat on it.
  24. Finally getting around to swapping out the 1st gear. Does anyone know the size of the 5th gear retaining nut? Edit: Using a dial caliper it looks like its a 1 1/2" 12 point nut. Just want to confirm if its a standard or metric nut.
  25. Got my hoodie and tshirts in. Hoodie is made in Honduras and the tshirts in Nicaragua. Both are thinner material than what I'm used to. Good for summer wear but not heavy enough for colder temps.
