  1. I like it! I can see the text on my laptop without going and looking for my grandpa goggles. Of course, there always has to be one bad "Apple" in the basket. Tom, you may have tools/content/colors set to override the site's text color in your browser.
  2. Although I have a windscreen, my eyes tend to tear up rather easily. For the most part, a set of Oakley M-frame Heaters works nicely. In a crosswind I needed better coverage. I wouldn't recommend Oakleys for cars with no windscreen as they are simply full coverage sunnies, and probably can't stop a heavy projectile one might encounter on the road. The Wiley SG1s are a good choice in eyewear if they fit your face. Much to my dismay, I discovered that if you have slightly bulging eyeballs, they can actually touch the surface of the lenses. Like the Oakley's, they really won't stop much in the way of road flotsam coming your way. I ended up with Wiley CQC tactical goggles. You can fit them with bows if a goggle strap is not to your liking. Since they are a real goggle, there is a modicum of reasonable protection against heavy flying objects.

  9. The wheels are 15" Kodiak "FX" wheels. Fantastic value considering the required custom offset I needed to stuff really wide tyres under boggo rear wings with no modifications. Oh, and yes, the car is a right hand drive HPC with similar equipment as Rob's car. The engine is a 235HP Evolution 3 "black top" C20XE developed for the Caterham HPC model by Swindon Racing Engines.

  11. Early, late, front, back, Mondeo, Mazda, Ranger...not really sure. These new fangled engines change around so much I can't keep track. I'm old school. Small block Fords came two ways; water pump inlet right on cars and inlet left for trucks. Everything else was the same for 40 GD years.:yawn: The Mazda thermostat is interesting. I'll have to look at the Cosworth wiring diagram to see if they are actually controlling the stat with the ECU or have substituted the Mazda mechanical replacement for their application.
  12. John, The WSCC drawing looks right to me. I can't remember what the Cosworth drawings had for the heater source, but I do recall it returned to the water pump inlet housing. I'll send the Cosworth drawings to you PM so there's no copyright issues with posting them here. You can adjust your drawings to reflect what's shown for public consumption. Be aware that Cosworth intends that you use the original electric override thermostat installed in the water pump inlet housing (USA style) and not the Ford Mondeo style rear thermostat.
  13. Tom, This may or may not apply to Duratec; The bleed line from the expansion tank needs to have some restriction to prevent anything from flowing other than air. In the VX we use a check valve the allows air into the engine but stops coolant from flowing back out into the top of the tank. Without it, there is a constant flow of coolant from the engine into the tank through the bleed line. I would also try to get the bleed line as high in the system as possible. Could it be tapped into the head or intake manifold? I have the schematics for Cosworth's recommended Duratec water circuit on my computer at work. I could make them available Monday if anyone would like to see them.
  14. Don't know if this will make the bellcranks line up with the ears, but the dimples in the rear links go towards the chassis, not the tyre. The forward links should have the dimples outward towards the tyre. On a second look at the assembly guide, I see that the rear link arm has an offset bushing trunion. Turning the rear arm around will move the bellcrank outwards to get it in line with the Dedion clevis ears.
  15. I'm looking for a boggo standard fuel filler neck and locking cap from an injected Caterham. I was going to use my old Le Mans style cap and construct a new neck, but I'm loosing interest in taking on such a project.:banghead: Any of you guys that converted to bag tanks have the bits I need cluttering your shelves? -Bob

  17. I use the Signal Dynamics module. Works a treat. Replace the Caterham indicator switch with a single pole double throw momentary, then and do a little wiring change here. one push on one push off if left on, it blinks 5 times then shuts off push and hold for a second or so and it blinks for 20 times before shutting off. Oops, didn't look before typing. The Speedway motors module is the same unit as the Signal Dynamics. I didn't know they sold through distributors.

  19. Stan, :cheers: Don't let these guys give you any guff about your garage's organizational aspects. I use the exact same system. At least one other USA7 member can attest to this. What many of them don't realize is that there is a definite method to this technique. Once one is trained in it's various idiosyncrasies, work flow is streamlined to levels that will never be experienced by the average "everything-in-it's-place" mechanic. Now, where's that set of mole grips...

  21. Maybe a bit OT... Quick lesson on nylon cable ties; Only buy ties manufactured by reputable suppliers. Nylon, if not molded properly, can be or become weak and brittle. Since the material is hygroscopic, it needs to be thoroughly dried before molding or water inclusions will disrupt the polymer structure. Post molding re hydration is critical as well. The ties you get at Autozone and such are poorly molded Chinese copies of the real thing. Buy from Digikey or some other electronics specialist to get good ties. If ties are molded properly, you should be able to repeatedly bend and flatten them with pliers without breaking. Black ties have the most resistance to UV and other environmental and chemical influences such as the Dow Fender Solvent that's spread on our streets in winter.

  25. I would loop the shoulder straps over the top lateral tube behind the seat. I imagine you'll have to cut some slots in the rear bulkhead for the straps to pass through. The various harness manufacturers have specifics on shoulder belt placement. Gert makes a valid point re 4 point harnesses. F1 driver Karl Jochen Rindt died horribly as a result of submarining in a 4 point harness. There are some 4 point harnesses that will stop submarining. Take a gander at the previous thread on the subject.
