  1. Buy a broad band!! I have the Inovate lm-1 and the only problem is it is hard to read on the fly and drive too. You need an empty road. One of these makes tweaking a carb so much easier. And essential for turboed engines. Sure wish they were available in the 50s. There are some real good rite ups on the weber progressive on thesamba.com and here is one specific http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=386388
  2. Thanks for the info. After de-hairing the belly of a bovine, I may have to build a new hood, after repairing the nose. Needed to do some mods to house the oil cooler, larger radiator and inter-cooler, but would have rather started with a good base. With timing set by me.
  3. I have #22 with an oddball rotary, it would be considered "clapped out" compared to this one and being one of the latest of about 50 it will have the latest factory improvements. It is hard to complain about the workmanship and quality parts are used. I drove mine about 800 miles in one day and felt OK afterward. The styling grows on you and the top is a fringe benefit. My daughter insists that the first item on my bucket list is to put the title in her name.
  4. Here is your flack; would rather drive the S1 than the Miata it is much easier on the back, and have been in the cold, rain and snow with it, it will also carry more luggage. If it only had a hard top.
  5. I fear more the police than I do the macho idiot with a so called assault weapon. They are all just semi-auto, but do have large magazines. As for gun control look to Mexico and see what it gets you. We are trying to point the finger at something instead of someone, and that is not getting the job done. Troubleshooting is; data accumulation analysis and correction. "give me the data and i will arrange it in such a manner as to prove your theory.
  6. As has been well said here education is up to the parent and child, a very good education can be had without the schools at a reasonable cost. As for the Gun subject; I have guns, have had from a very early age, also have knifes, clubs, and various other tools for damage. It is your choice to own or not to own but do not infringe my rights to freedom. What should be the main focus is to find the right one who is guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt and make them answerable for the crime no matter what method was used. let us punish the guilty, but let's not kill or jail the innocent. Myself I would never choose a gun to commit mayhem, there are other ways simpler and far more effective. We have far too many laws now, and that in its self makes them ineffective. Let's lay off the guns and do what should be done. The most effective self defense uses what is at hand, your hands, they are always with you.
  7. It is not that we cannot, it is that we do not. for example look to our military schools, they manage to teach more in a shorter time and have been doing so for years, in ww2 they were soloing pilots with 10 hrs. And there are some very good examples in our own school system, just not nearly enough. It is political and mostly biting off your nose to spite your face- ie; short term money, power and miss guidance. Will never change. Parents supplement your kids education at home, it is your best bet for the least bucks. The amazing thing is; that it would be easy to form a group to do a fix using the people who posted right here. !!
  8. Agree. We are a third world country now and need to become humble enough to look outside for ideas. The internet education is going to put most of our universities in the same shape as the newspapers. Early start is very important and if we do not pay attention we will be left further behind. My ideas lean toward 1- free prenatal care for all, (the cost savings would easily pay for it even with our sick health care system) 2- more attention to early learning exposure to education. 3- Fix our education system and start firing at the top, teachers are but a very small part of the problem, and 4- Start jailing only those who actually need to be there and give those a chance to improve their education and not release them until they have the ability to survive outside, and if they return-- whatever. My mother (from the old country) taught me to read a newspaper before starting school, once ahead you stay ahead, never had the need for more than 11th grade because every thing that I needed to know was at hand. Life is not fair and will never be, but we can hope.
  9. Do not like politics, But for the education system in the public school-- let's concentrate on teaching them to the highest level they can achieve ( an 8th grade level that is real is better than graduating high school and not knowing enough to enter college ). And I also think that equal and if not free at least easily paid for with a part time job higher education should in place) None of this first tier crap that is only available to those with millions. We will go forward working our minds.
  10. trick is; do not panic and just do your best. Preparation and more knowledge helps also. But in any case do your best till someone who knows more arrives.
  11. Ditto on the info you have been given. Have #22 with a 13b rotary and prefer it to my Miata even for long trips (750 one day) except for the ac. Am 6' 175 and old and it fits me well, the Ca. SF dealer has a few windshield glasses and sells sf stuff on ebay, snakebite (goggle) has a kit build manual with some info on front alingment, tires and pressure change the animal a lot 1/4 lb can be noticed on the street, Hate sf for making the car an orphan, but just consider it a "one off".
  12. Fruitloops have provided us with a massive supply of used Miatas!! And that is good.
  13. You say mostly track, first consider all track, then buy the best sorted most to your liking used car from someone moving up, look for smooth power band, and consider that you may actually want to race in a class. when you can out drive the car then think about moving up. Personally have a Superfomance S1 that is a modified and will become more so due to lack of parts. Would not consider it as a good choice for a track car due to the shortage of replacement parts and am not qualified to judge it's relative abilities. But it is still the funnest car that I have ever owned. Buy the best used you can find, pay a little more and you will have the most fun at the least overall expense.
  14. Am 71, have a Superformance S1 with a rotary and a super tight LSD. They are considered to be among the most comfortable of the sevens. but they only made about 50 and repairs can be a problem (right now am looking for a windshield glass with no luck) Would suggest buying a popular brand or a well documented locost, workmanship and parts that are easy to find are very important. Now; I put about 5k miles a year on the car and it is usable in all weather (it does have a hot water heater installed under the dash) , it is fairly dry in a downpour and handles hydro-planing well as any car, with 50% of the weight on the drivers there is good traction and with suitable tires handles well on slick roads (ice at 20 is no different than hot asphalt at 100 or gravel at 70) my longest day trip was about 800 miles and hit a cow on the last 20 and limped home. The S1 has more trunk space than my Miata and for me is easier to get in and out of, the top stays on mine year around folded up for shade in the summer and ready to close. Have a high HP glass buggy that is more fun for short trips but the S1 is a better open road car, you just have to remember that your are always in the other drivers "blind spot"and drive accordingly.
  15. Guns are not the problem at all. Those who wish to commit mayhem would find a way and it is simple. I grew up in the mid west during the "zip gun" era in a sort of tough area. We made weapons from almost everything, there was a severe shortage of radio antennas. With a small camping propane tank a slightly intelligent person can commit more mayhem than with a gun, and a small co2 canister will make an air gun that is quite silent. What we do need to do is start holding people responsible for their actions and all of then including the Inron management types. I would favor greater use of the death penalty if we didn't murder so many innocent people with it. Ban guns and I for one will buy, steal, or make a fully auto silent one that uses either easily made or stolen ammo. No reason to be at the mercy of those who are armed like the poor Mexicans. Talk about gun control failure.
  16. Love it!!! Guilty as charged, last trip to town I bought some packing tape cause it was cheap and it sure as heck was, but not nearly as inexpensive as it should have been. It wouldn't even stick to it's self. When will we ever learn? Am going to make a few copies and next trip to town leave them scattered about chairman mao's junk tool store if you do not mind.
  17. My take; cannot understand anyone using anything that changes normal state. ( this from a former smoker, drinker, and adrenalin junkie). freedom as defined by me is; we are free to do as we choose as long as in the exercise of that freedom we do not infringe on the freedoms of others. It is a slippery slope for drug users including alcohol but if used in private and not effecting others their actions pose no threat to others freedoms. However this just does not happen and while pot is the least harmful drug it still effects all of us if only by the fact that "stupid" is less productive and drags down our standard of living. We should wait until we clean up our own house before going after the "pot heads"-- " let he who is with out sin cast the first stone" and then lets cast it in the most needed direction. If we all eliminated one meth supplier or cooker it would do a world of good for the country.
  18. Not a steal, but a fairly good price in today's market. The prices of new autos are grossly overinflated and partly to blame is the auto bail out. I bought 2 years ago at a bargain price fully understanding that the market was going south, but at my age my life is going south at a faster rate and the car represented a windfall from stock trading. I am willing to bet that "name brand" sevens will see the low teens before we are done, tight market and some new players being offered. Take a ride in a well sorted LS swapped Miata or RX-7 FD to start the list. The days of buying and loosing half your 'investment' are here again.
  19. The price is right. It is too bad that energy and time are wasted on the young. besides I have enough. but for those who might be thinking; a poor economy is the best time to start a business and this would be a good one, built in customer base for spares and likely the best base car in the Miata,
  20. I am 5'11 and a little short in the leg and long on torso, keep the pedals close to the forward stop and there is about 4+ inches of travel and i bet it could be modified to come further back. My daughter is about 5'7 and does well. need to set in one, but I bought mine sight unseen. And being overhead hung it would be easy to add pads.
  21. I have one and love it. have put about 10k miles on it in two years, 700 in one day. It has been over gravel washboard roads, shredded a front tire at about 80, in general use it as a daily driver, the trunk will hold a stuffed suite bag and a small cooler (enough for a week) and is reasonably comfortable hydroplaning at freeway speeds. perhaps a little too long wheel base to track but then except for it being a little tight for my 13 shoe it is very roomy and the attention to detail is very good. Gonna die with it and my daughter has dibbs.
  22. the business plan of most of them contains plans for the customer/consumer/voter that looks a lot like the same thing that the businesses that are legal only in Nevada do.
  23. Is an old saying in statistics- "Give me the data and I will arrange it in such a manner as to justify the conclusion you wish"
  24. the republicans have been recently branded as the party of NO, but we must remember that during the Bush era some lady called Nancy was holding back just as bad, we need people who are not afraid to vote for the country not the party. They are just like the fellow worker who will skid your job to make you look bad (hoping to get ahead) instead of just doing their job to the best of their abilities. We too need to change- lets all write in Jessie Ventura and Warren Buffett,
  25. There have been many times that I did not fire anyone because the available replacements were worse. we are there now, I am not happy but I was less happy 7 years ago. it is good to differ and I have the utmost respect for those who think differently than me that do so in the best interests of the country, they are in the minority these days and may have always been.
