Sevens are perfect for USA autocrossing. Why no posts here for years?
yellowss7 replied to pethier's topic in Autocrossing
Yes I did AutoX for 8 years. And yes our cars are made for it. But I got tired of the work part. As chief of Grid I had to be there early to set up then be standing all day for my 3-4 50-60 second runs. The seat time wasn’t worth the effort IMO and after doing my first Track day I was done with it. No comparison. It does improve your driving skills and teaches you lat apexing but it’s your choice. Definitely cheaper than track day’s though. Tom -
Nicely done Charlie 👍

We really lucked out with the weather this weekend as the early forecast looked bleak. But the temp and cool breezes were just about perfect and the rain clouds skirted around the track and missed us completely although halfway through the session the dark clouds looked ominous and as the front blew through a cold breeze hit. Other than Simon’s engine, and Vlads wing stay it was a pretty uneventful couple of days. And I had a blast alternating with Yellow and Orange. Haven’t done that in a long while. My heel a toeing skills deteriorated after driving With paddle shifters in Orange. It was good to get some practice in. Everyone seemed to enjoy the event and hopefully we will see you all next year. Now all you have to do is lose all the weight you gained from the breakfast and lunch buffets.😝 Tom

Beautiful day on track! Thanks Croc! Simon is still working on the oil pump pulley issue but he expects it to be ready for tomorrow. Yellow ran well today. First time I’ve had it out on track in a year or two. Had to relearn the heel and toe and manual shifting. Orange spoiled me with the paddle shifters. Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. One week to go. Hopefully you all have done the necessary maintenance and polishing 😝 I will have both cars in attendance. Yellow and Orange. Double trouble. 😜 Should be a fun couple of days. Rest up. Tom -
Good job. I’m hoping to get my Rover K powered Caterham ready for the NJMP event. Hope to see you there. Tom

You can register as a guest on motorsportreg.com. Or you can also probably show up at registration before the drivers meeting and register as a guest and that gets you breakfast and lunch. Croc should be responding shortly if he’s awake😝 -

I see six as of today. Simon will be there so we still need a few more for them to give us our own run group. Hopefully more will sign up shortly. Please don’t wait until the last day as they will cancel us out if we don’t have at least 10 signed up. Tom -

Just over 3 weeks remaining before our Sevens gathering at NJMP. Hopefully everyone has sorted out your cars. I finally got my car back this week. I’ve not had it out yet but I’m scheduled for a track day on Friday. I had an issue that left the car not able to shift. My compressor would not shut off and the paddles weren’t working. Luckily it was just the pressure sensor which was an easy fix once the problem was isolated. Fingers crossed. Looking forward to seeing everyone. Tom -

What seats do you have? If you have Tillets and a lowered floor you are probably good. Easy enough to test. Sit in it with your helmet on and see if your head is below the roll bar. -

I think their cancellation policy is not as favorable as the holiday in and Fairfield. Tough to cancel if I remember correctly -

Save the Date - USA7s at NJMP Drivers Club - September 6/7, 2024

Early response seems to point to a nice turnout this year. They have repaved Thunderbolt and are finishing up the new curbing. They still have to let the concrete curbing cure before they can do the painting. Here is a drone video of the progress. Word from them is that the track is a lot more grippy and safer with the improved gravel traps, increased curbing and moving back tire walls in turn one. Going to be fun getting the Se7ens back on track after missing last year. The more the Merrier! Tom https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIdri2LZMZs -
The rover K really comes on cam at 5500rpm and pulls like a freight train. Enjoy! Tom

2023 USA7s HPDE at NJMP Lightning - CHANGED TO October 14 and 15

Well it’s still raining here and never really let up all day so, I guess we have to consider ourselves fortunate that we didn’t waste the entry fee today as I don’t think anyone would have taken their car on track. Except maybe Kitcat @Kitcat Never got much above 50 today either. We missed it by two days. Thursday and Friday were spectacular days 70s and not a cloud in the sky. Oh well. Tom -

Thanks guys. We have been extremely lucky to have them allow us to have our own run group. I don’t think they have ever even considered doing one for any other marque. In the past NJMP would never cancel a drivers club event for weather. It was supposedly a “learning Experience “. Our open and often slick shod cars don’t need that kind of experience 🤪. This year they started monitoring the sign up numbers and if they didn’t feel the numbers made economic sense, they would cancel the event. Most of our members realize that nothing good ever happens on track in the rain. So with so few signed up ahead of time, they made the decision to cancel. In the 12 or so years we have been doing this, we only had one wet morning, that left a few puddles on a furn or two. Which made for some good spins and great pictures 😜 Hopefully we will have better luck next year. And hope to see all those who had conflicts and car issues back with us next year. Maybe even Seb will find a way to take a couple of days off. 🙄 Stay Safe Tom -

Guys, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but NJMP just informed Croc that they are officially cancelling BOTH Saturday AND Sunday now. So officially the event is off. Croc just landed and besides being jet lagged, he’s very disappointed as am I. We will look to see if there are any possible other dates this year, but as the weather will be cooling off more and more, it’s most likely we will be looking at next year to try again. Tom -

Drivers meeting at 8:30am track live at 9am for those coming please post here just to give us a rough count. too bad it wasn’t yesterday and today. Weather is perfect. Tom -

I hate to say it, but I think Vlad jinxed us by finally fixing his car. 😜 We will try to get next year’s date out as early as we can, once we get next year’s schedule, so you can all try to block it on your calendars. So those of you with mechanical issues or new builds or cars on order will have no excuse. Tom -
Congrats Vlad. I would have thrown in the towel a long time ago. Glad you finally caught a break. Tom
