  1. Had a great day at the track yesterday. All of us guys sort of felt like Nero Fiddling while Rome burned. We're out on the track having fun while everyone else is battening down the hatches. 4 GTR's, an Aston Martin racer, a Rolex Grand Am car, a couple of NASCAR sprint cars, A Ferrari 575 Barchetta and a Lambo Murcelalago and me. How's that for a run group. I got my ass kicked, My arm hurts from Pointing everyone by. Went to the market for some necessities this morning, limeade for the Margatitas, veggies to make fresh salsa and of course plenty of chips.:hurray::cheers: We are well stocked on booze, wine and beer so you know this storm is going to be a bust. On the shore front, found a carpenter to board up the beach front windows. Just have to hope the water level doesn't rise too much. Our end of the beach is only a 100 yards or so from the water, with just one small dune in between. We haven't even stayed in the place since we settled on it 4 weeks ago as it's rented out thru October. Good thing my wife thought to up the flood insurance when we closed. Phillies are scheduled to play at 1pm. No more honeydo's left, I'm going to sit down and watch the saturday morning Gearhead shows.:driving: Stay dry. Tom
  2. Sorry Croc, it's all my fault. Leave it to me to buy a Beachfront shore property 4 weeks ago. Oh well, nothing I can do now,I'a 6am and I've Packed up the Caterham and am off to do a members Trackday at NJMP. :cooldude: I'll check in with you on Monday and compare notes. Good Luck Tom
  3. Supersportsp I installed one on my Caterham this spring. Simple job. Just order the pigtail from caterham that allows you to connect both your current brake light and then has a extra set of wires that you connect to the wires from the new one your adding. The part wasn't expensive and the job takes almost no time. ( I didn't even lose any smoke from the exsiting wires when doing this, That's how easy it is. :smilielol5:) Here's the link to the part. Sub Loom high brakel light. http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/product.php?id_product=345 Tom
  4. I used tin snips and a dremel with a sanding disc to smooth the edges. Use painters tape over the area to mark and cut. Tom
  5. Yep,Exactly right. Mine is dry sumped, has 195 hp and as Croc has witnessed, there is no need to bang it off the rev limiter. This is just for fun, it's not racing. Tom
  6. Fixed that for you. :jester: As for the 20,000 mile rebuild, It's way more track miles than any of us will ever do. IMHO. Tom
  7. Come on Mike, it's Tuesday already. What's the diagnosis? Don't tell me that a Duratec motored car is not reliable. :nopity: Tom
  8. Yes Mike, the Rover K series did suffer from head gasket issues if you still had the original plastic dowels and if your liner heights were not the required 2-3 thousands above the deck. A good engine builder knows of these issues and they are easily rectified. My red line is 8000 and while I don't get to it in 6th, I don't really need to as I have to slow way down to get by you when you create such big dust storms at NJMP. :smilielol5: The original R500's were Rover Kseries, and they are still considered as quick as the R500 Duratecs. But then again the R500's rev to 8800rpm. Now that's scary. http://www.minister-power.com/ Click on Engines, then MG/Rover and view the different power options. This is the motor that led to the desiganation of SUPERLIGHT. The R500's had a power to weight ratio of 500 HP per Ton. As for you CSR claiming the Superlight moniker...:smilielol5: Tom
  9. Mike, If you rent Pocono, I have a place up there that we can all stay at. As for the Member day at NJMP, let me know when you are back and I'll get you in. It will have to be a qualified member day for you guys to drive in the intermidiate or Advanced groups, otherwise you're stuck in the novice no passing group on non Quailified days. FYI, Nov 12 and 13 are the last member day events on tbolt and lightning. If you are around let me know. Just checked, Sat. Nov. 12th is a Qualified members day if you are up for it. BTW so is this Saturday Aug 27th. If you are in country, let me know. Tom Tom
  10. What are you going to use it for? Sunday drives, Autoxing, trackdays???? No need to go big power unless you NEED it AND can USE it. Kitkat was as quick as anyone on the track with his crossflow. Yeah, Croc was faster down the straights, but it was not an issue in the braking and turning portions of the track. Personally, I believe modest power is easier to use unless you are a driving God like Croc, or enjoy gardening at the track. :smilielol5: Mighty Mike's Birkin looks awesome and so does the Yellow Caterham. There was one other Caterham that on the site that someone said might be available, that looked nice too. Good options. Good Luck. Tom
  11. Mike, could you hear the fuel pump priming as you turned the key to the on position? Do you have an Inertial cut off switch that shuts down the fuel pump? Tom
  12. Mike, can you describe what happened? Was it running and just die? Sputtered to a stop? Did you turn it off and then try to restart? Did you stall it? Give us some hints. Tom
  13. That's not a good start Mike :ack:. Troubleshooting should be similar though. Fuel? Spark, Air. Anything Loose? Anything broken? Unless your ECU map is crap. What are the symptoms? Congrats BTW. Now I'll only see the rear view of you briefly on the track. Tom
  14. Congrats! With the handle of the Stig, it will be good to have another Clam fendered Caterham to add to our NJMP Trackday group. :seeya: Tom
  15. Karl, what ever you do, don't piss off the wife. :willy_nilly: But if by chance she let's you out, let me know. Tom
  16. Hey guys, SCDA is running another track day event at New Jersey Motorsports Park on Sept 12 and 13 Monday on Lightning, Tuesday on Thunderbolt. Here's the link to their events. http://www.scda1.com/blogs/bd/2011/08/12/Upcoming-SCDA-Events%3A-Lime-Rock-Park-Aug-29%3B-New-Jersey-Motorsports-Park-Sept-12-.AMP.-13%3B-Lime-Rock-Park-Sept-20%3B-NHMS-Oct-7%3B-Lime-Rock-Park-Oct-29.EXL./ I'm probably going to sign up again, anyone else able to make it? I ran thunderbolt again on Wednesday and it was absoultely NO fun without you guys. Hope to see some of you again soon. Ron, it would be a good place to break in your new ride. Tom
  17. Bad news for you big hp Duratec owners. NJMP just put a power to weight limit on the trackdays. No cars with more than 400 hp to weight ratio's can run on the track so you guys with the big HP will either have to detune them or add suffient weight to meet the new regs. Tom
  18. Russian my ass, this one is all American. :flag::flag::flag: Tom [/url]
  19. Mike, I sent if off to three of my lawyer buddies. They said that Philly judges don't have a sense of humor, but they really enjoyed reading it. Tom:seeya:
  20. I had it happen to me in my 1st year of trailering. Croc, the way you are supposed to controll it is to speed up a bit, or to squeeze the trailer brake controller to engage the trailer brakes. Let me tell you that even if I would have known that it would be hard to do as it happened very quickly. I was doing about 50mph on a downhill section of the NE ext of the Pa tpk. The trailer started to sway and so did the Durango, I went from the right lane, and hit the guardrail on the left lane, bounced off the guardrail as I had cut the wheel to try to avoid it and swerved back and hit the guardrail on the right shoulder. The trailer jackknifed, and luckily the guardrail kept the Durango from going over the edge of a 50 ft dropoff. The rear tow hooks, actually straightend out and the car slide forward about 2 feet. No damage other than the left rear wing hit the inside fenderwell and cracked it. No big deal as that wing later met a few cones autoxing and they did much more damage. I have since added an antisway bar and a weight tranfer setup to the hitch. The Durango was totalled thought. Tom
  21. Here: http://gallery.me.com/jjones17#100282 Michael, I just sent you a PM. Tom
  22. OK. It finally finished rendering at 9pm, and I sent it to Youtube from my laptop. Unfortunately, due to the size of the file, when I got up this morning it was still loading and was showing 8800 minutes of processing still remaining and it was still going up.:nopity: Good think Cousin John suggested sending it to his Mobile Me gallery on my desktop computer. That only took 9 hours,so it was done when I woke up. John just sent me the link so that you all may view it. It is 43 minutes long. Sorry, I just couldn't stop adding footage of us passing everything in site. Here is the link to John's Mobile me gallery. http://gallery.me.com/jjones17#100282 Click on the link, which opens the gallery. That will take you right to the movie, Unless you have a REALLY fast internet connection, I recommend clicking the Large size, downloading it onto your computer, and put it into the full screen mode by clicking on the two little arrows or dots at the bottom right hand corner and turn up the volume. If you don't download it, it could hang up as it is a very Large file. Enjoy! Tom
  23. Karl, Karl, Karl, no need for you to cover for Croc. He's a big boy, he can stand hearing the truth. You held him off very nicely. It's in the video, unedited footage no less. I know there was one point by that you let us all pass, but surely that was just for good video effect. Once Croc went by, he promptly ran out of talent if he wasn't following somebody. :jester: The dust clouds and him sitting 20 feet off the blacktop in the grass is proof enough. As for the RST! That would be scary! Tom
  24. I just finished the final editing of the video. I'm pretty pleased with the outcome. My cousin John helped with the editing and some special effects. It combines footage from 5 different cameras. It's currently rendering into the Media browser so that I can then export it into YOUTUBE. It still has 3 hours or so left to render. Total time is 43 minutes. I think I'll try to break it up into Three sessions to upload on youtube. Hopefully, I'll be able to meet my target of getting it loaded up today. It will be late, as it won't finish rendering until at least 8:30 or 9pm or so. Stay tuned. Tom
