I've got a couple of sets of formula car harnesses off my race car but the mounting points in the Caterham require larger holes through the mounting plates.-Uh...not a good idea to overdrill these. So- here's the questions: Do you need to buy through Caterham, Demon Tweeks, Redline etc... to get them to fit? I've got the leather, bolstered seat that comes in the Superlight R. Don't want to cut a hole in the seat bottom for the 'crotch' strap. Has anyone ever used formula car harnesses in their car? With these seats? As configured, the mounting points for the shoulder harnesses are too far apart for HANS usage. Has anyone had their car modified to allow this? Tom, I saw you mentioned this in an old post? You could make a plate mounted in the original holes with new correctly spaced holes. Or have a new bung welded in since you have your fuel cell out. BruceBe Posted June 10, 2015 Share Posted June 10, 2015 We offer Sabelt harnesses that work well in the Seven. They utilize a 2"->3" shoulder strap, making it very HANS friendly. The latch is part of the sub-belt, eliminating the possibility of denting the skin of the car with the latch when exiting the cockpit. LuckyDawg has them in his car. Tom- I like the idea of the plate since I could remove it and also drill holes in it to use with some of my extra harnesses. There are already 3 holes in the bar behind the seat so not sure if I want to add another bung. Bruce- I like the Sabelts and have used them in my FE. Mine are for formula cars without the hard metal latch for the sub strap. I think they'd probably work well in the 7. Thanks again. bball7754 Posted June 11, 2015 Share Posted June 11, 2015 I replaced my Caterham belts with Schroth belts, and have been extremely happy with them. HMS Motorsport will make a set pretty much to your specifications. My lap belts are "pull up", and the latch is on the inside lap belt for each set. This type of setup is typically used with a “Formula Style” or “Hybrid Style” looped sub-strap" I prefer schroth because their webbing is made of polyester which has a much longer life than nylon. I'm personally not a fan of pull up lap belts in a 6 point harness. I run a set of 6 point formula style in my car, but my seat is a bench style seat (I have an original S2), so my configuration is very similar to a formula car. It allows you to individually configure either lap belt to pull-up or pull-down, and also position the belt adjuster closer to the buckle -- the latter is helpful for those who have wrap around seats like Tillets or MOGs. -John Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
