pickles
Hi Was at CT DMV last week for inspection. A fail sadly....but to be honest I was expecting it. Needs bumpers and surprisingly US Spec seatbelts. So back to back to DMV next week...US spec lap belts and some fabricated bumpers...fingers crossed. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=14218&stc=1http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=14219&stc=1 Pickles
Anaximander
Pickles, I can rest easier knowing that your "bumpers" have made your Caterham a non death trap (grin). Much good luck finishing the licensing process! BTW, it would be best from a regulatory standpoint that you not exceed 50 mph and only drive it very early in the morning when there are fewer cars on the road. wemtd
Gotta give them something to ding you on. Fenders don't look to be too difficult for you to rectify. Good luck with round
pickles
Whoot!! Whoot!! A Pass...just one more trip to DMV tomorrow to get the VIN assigned and Registered then I should be good to go. As a side I have for rent one set of very lightly used bumpers suitable for an SV! All the Best Pickles

panamericano
No annual inspections in CT? I have to put on my wipers every year. Congratulations. Do you get a nifty little state issued plate for all your hard work? Or, just a number to stamp.
pickles
Hi Am done!!! 4 hours at DMV office I have plates!!! Rushed home put plate on car ... grabbed the missus ... and went out for first official trip and dinner. The plate fell off!! (What a complete wanker I am...did not get 50 yards needed to add nuts to my bolts!!) The gear knob spins annoyingly (Again use sentiment above...now where is that little grub screw to secure the gear knob?) The speedo stopped working at about same 50 yard mark (Appears common issue with grounding of speedo sensor...think I have it solved) Annoying brake fluid weep from front brake cylinder at pipe union. Not sure I can tighten this anymore so need to do more work on this. Still grinning ear to ear :driving: All the above probably needs some American translation so apologies in advance!! Anaximander
Shane, Don't encourage the man to be unsafe at any speed lest Ralph Nader will come out of retirement. What Pickles needs to do now is add humungous and ugly big rubber outer coverings on those metal spears to conform to DOT regs like the Brits had to do in the early 1980's to the MG and Triumphs. pickles
Hi I told my other half that I had fessed up about my 50 yard journey before my car became an official collector car (You have to run behind it and ‘collect’ the bits that fall off…old English joke but for anybody who has ever owned an UK built car…you’ll know exactly what I mean) …she proclaimed “you exaggerate about everything in relation to size and distance … 50 yards!!! We did not even make it out of the driveway and that is barely 25 feet” She has a way of keeping me grounded!! Solved the speedo, it was a grounding issue. The weep of brake fluid is also solved…the supplied copper washers are slightly oversized, so unless you center them while tightening the fitting, gravity takes it course and off centers the washer. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=14250&stc=1 Of course when you solve one issue … you find another … the Fuel gauge reads zero…it sweeps when I turn on the ignition but that is the last movement it makes. Black Hole
Fantastic. I will be happy to drive on down from Hartford and meet you for a CT lobster roll (butter, no mayo for those not attuned to the nuances of New England lobster rolls) along the shore. Plenty of nice roads along the way.
Black Hole
Thanks for the info on the brake fluid. While prepping for NJMP next week I found a small weep from my brake caliper. The nut was able to be tightened a bit but if I see more weepage I will take your info into account
Croc
CT lobster roll The best kind of lobster roll too! Jay - while you are at it, bring Pickles to NJMP with you next week. Good humored chaps are always prized and I suspect I will need it after Wednesday's test session for a few misbehaving cars...
